Copped a new leather motorcycle jacket yesterday. The leather isn't especially supple, presumably because it's brand new. If I treat it like a pair of rawz and wear every day, will the leather wear in and get beautiful fades like pic related? Can anyone tell me what I should expect in terms of wear?

That's cool. What sort of bike do you ride? I want to learn to ride because I have a massive hardon for cafe racers. Any advice for leather jacket care/wearing in or learning to ride?

>If I treat it like a pair of rawz and wear every day, will the leather wear in and get beautiful fades like pic related?
You just answered your own question. Yes, near-daily wear will produce a beautifully worn leather jacket. Expect to see some fading around high friction areas like where the arms bend, the elbows, and the armpits. The thicker the leather, like steerhide or horsehide, the more beautifully "vintaged" the jacket will look.

I hope you got something good quality? Cheap leather jackets never age well.

Also, if you want to get rid of that sleek, glossy, BDSMish look of a new leather jacket wear it around in the rain. Do this a couple of times. You can even try a light rinse in the shower. Just let the jacket air dry afterwards. Give the jacket a proper leather treatment later on, though.

>Also leather jackets are for autists who wear fedoras.

Ah, and I just wanted to post the back side. I love that impressive back panel. I like how Schott made this jacket with as few seams as possible.

>Leather jackets are autistic. They just look awful. Leather jackets are pretty much costume wear. You might as well wear a clown outfit, because no one is going to take you seriously when you wear a leather jacket. You probably think you look like Marlon Brando, but the truth is that you don't. You actually look like a nerd that is trying to look badass when wearing a leather jacket.
My advice: Leather jackets. Dont wear 'em. Why shouldn't you wear them? They look like shit. All. The. Time. Get real. Stop trying to look cool, because you are not cool and you are not a badass. Wear something else that looks good and doesn't make you look stupid.
The truth is, leather jackets never look good. You should never wear a leather jacket. They are pretty much the fedora-level jackets. Let me tell you one thing. You will look autistic when you wear a leather jacket. Again, never wear a leather jacket. They look like shit.

The leather isn't especially thick, so I'm not expecting it to turn out like the OP pic. How do you tell the quality? It all comes from a cow, r-right?

I've read the guide, seems to tick all the boxes. The leather is smooth, no weird colours around the seams, gives nicely and doesn't smell weird. Can't find any signage on the garment itself or the website that indicates whether it is nappa or hide

No. Haven't you heard? Leather jackets look like shit and are only suitable for autistic people. I always wear my leather jacket at the local autism clinic. I like to think that I look like Marlon Brando. It is a very masculine look which exudes confidence and seriousness, unlike a clown costume. I impress all of my autistic buddies with my leather jacket. I pick up all the autistic ladies when I wear my leather jacket. For added sex appeal I wear my fedora too, and I like to tip it at the ladies. So much swooning.

[I'm being sarcastic.]

~$400 is not outrageous for a leather jacket. It's about average for a decent jacket.

Didn't want to start a new thread, but since TOJ is stopping indefinitely I'm looking elsewhere for a DR. I'm thinking about a Schott 613 but I'm not sure about the fit and I'm afraid of the dad/fedora-tier fit it might have. Anyone with experience on sizing/tips?

Drew is going on about his restaurant, just like he did the same time last year for the summer hiatus. He says there's a chance he can do both depending on how he feels a year from now. Who knows. I don't think he's going to pull the cord, no matter what he says. He'll probably freeze the catalog and put that Charly guy or whoever in charge of day-to-day operations.
