they both allow you to read the time at any moment.

I know it's more akin to jewelry, but it's a dying aesthetic and will be considered superfluous by most even today due to the abundance of cell phones and monitor devices with built-in clocks lining almost any surface of public space.

In a few years they will become anachronistic accessories, akin to our view of pocket watches and and classic mens hats today.

Exactly. It's a niche market already.
>You're probably projecting the disinterest with watches among your own social circles.
I have one friend who wears one, but it's all part of a neatly cultivated 1950's aesthetic.

I can't even remember the last time I saw a regular person under 40 wearing one in public.

I'm okay with you wearing a wrist watch, but it is most definitely going out of style. Fast.

Maybe it would go out of style, but it would be decades.

From what i know, watches have strong brand positioning and are constantly adapting. For example, Breitling have a watch that is designed for aviation and Audemars Piguet made a watch for Maserati that matches its car.

Also many watches doesn't need a battery to work. So it would be really useful for travellers.

>> No.6297337

All the examples you've listed are extremely niche markets my friend.

They are already out of style, but that's ok.

That just means you need to cultivate a sort of retro or luxury aesthetic where it falls as a natural piece, though it seems to me like you already have.

Google for a Wall St Journal article called "Winders' Keepers" and tell me that "watches are going out of style".
(sorry for not linking but 4chan is complaining of spam)

Here are some quotes:
>Today, mechanical-driven wristwatches account for only about 20% of the global watch industry
>But for more than a decade, it's been on the upswing, aggressively defying the global recession
>In 2011, sales of Swiss watches—the uncontested leaders in this category—reached a 20-year high of $21.8 billion, of which 70% came from mechanical pieces.

That watch is a few hundred dollars. Best way to get your hands on it is through watchuseek.

It'd be alright if it wasn't gold. Leave gold watches for 45 year old women. If you really want a gold watch, get watches that are understated and sophisticated, and by that I mean get a Calatrava.

Eh, probably because only watch enthusiasts will only know about them and I don't mean that in a bad way. They don't advertise with celebrities. They aren't sold in malls along side Tags, Omega, Longines, etc.

Besides, pretty much only watch fans will know of Patek too.

Link redirects to UO home page so I don't know what you got, but since you got it from UO, chances are it's at best a Timex. 4/10

How do you like it? I changed over to a NATO strap for mine, just prefer it over a metal bracelet for both comfort and looks.

I was debating for the longest time for a date vs non-date version - I'm still liking both of them.

poljot strela.
it's a reissue of the original soviet space watch (similar to how seagull did a reissue of the 1963 chronograph). can get one for under 500. I dig it a lot.
