Depending on how the people around you dress affects you I think, you don't want to look out of place. In more cosmopolitan and 'artsy' areas you can get away with wearing all sorts of crazy, loud outfits or avante-garde pieces of clothing because people are more use to it.

Well in that case I live in pic related. It's about two or so hours from the Chesapeake Bay so it's more of a coastal town. My surroundings do dictates the way I dress I suppose because I live in a conservative area where hardly anyone looks differently. Things that you've all come across I've never seen in my life. For example, I've never seen a pair of Desert Boots in my life because no one wears them around here. It's just Nike, Vans, Adidas, Sperry, and Sanuks here in Salisbury.
