I work at a store near Chicago and the customers are fucking horrendous. You're basically paid $10 an hour to be treated like a second class citizen.

The hours are long, and there's a "feedback" system where essentially they tell you what you did wrong in a lame attempt to be passive aggressive. After a week of working you're pretty much expected to know the store inside and out.

Okay, sounds good. I've been there around 1.5 years and they just started offering to develop me into a higher paying position at another store, but due to year round classes and transferring to uni soon I wasn't able to oblige. As did other employees.

Every manager save for a select few gave me shit for it. They all said unprofessional things, which isn't a big deal, but honestly come on. I don't want to work in fucking retail forever, which is the choice they've made.

Theft is a huge problem and the amount of minorities who shop at H&M bump that number up ten fold. I'm not racist by any stretch of the word, but it's just fact. In back of house there's a bulletin board with about 50 pictures of shoplifters who are all minorities, although there's a few whites here and there.

We've had mothers get into fist fights because they were under the impression someone cut them in line, and the black people are rude as fuck. Although some of the older black people are very sweet.

Nothing gets done because everyone wants to do what they think is best and we never work towards a common goal. You can get written up (documented) for practically anything.

Oh and the clothes usually suck hahaha.

At first it might seem like it's worth it, but truly if its just a job you need while in school or something it's probably not worth it. I can't speak for many other stores, but you'll come to find yourself really jaded in terms of how people behave in the real world. The hours are long (1-10,2-10,10-7,9-6) for most employees but they give you an hour break and a 15 minute break as well.

Yeah, between 20-64 you won't get free healthcare anymore, unless you come up to a certain sum per year, then it's free again. But as long as you are 0-20, 65 and up, you get free healthcare.
School is always free no matter what age you are.
Payed by taxes yeah. I rather have a healthy educated population than not having to pay taxes. I still earn enough money to do whatever the fuck I want, and I get paid to have vacation. If I work overtime, I get free hours to take out whenever I want.
