But I will stand by the fact that it does impede functionality. If it's so tight your buttons are being stressed loose and it's binding everywhere. But like you said, if you wanted a shrunken fit for some reason, that's cool I guess.

>> No.6266108

>>6266075

Well that jacket seems to have silk faced buttons, like a dinner (tux) jacket ought to. The silk faced shawl lapel is also consistent with making it a dinner jacket.

Technically a blazer is a jacket that has metal buttons and is part of a uniform of sorts. Most commonly this is a boating or naval navy jacket with brass buttons, but it can also be a school uniform. That jacket in the picture is just a dinner jacket though. Not a hybrid of any sort.

And yes, it does matter. No reason not to call things by their proper names. And usually the classification is a way of dictating what you ought to wear with it. Sport coats should generally be worn with other odd pieces and separates, although jackets from suits made of coarser materials can double as a sport coat.

>> No.6266117

>>6266075

A dinner jacket traditionally features silk-trimmed lapels (shawl and peak are most common) and often have a single (covered) button front.

In the strictest sense, "blazer" is a single- or double-breasted navy wool jacket with gold-tone shank buttons. In practice, most people refer to tailored non-suit jackets as "blazers".

This is accurate. Though they really shouldn't do that, because sport coat would be the proper term in most cases.

Out in the real world, I generally don't correct people though. I just use the term sport coat instead, and often people will pick up on it and start using it instead.

And as I was saying before, the dinner jacket posted earlier has an extremely "trendy" fit. You can wear it if you want of course, but more extreme fits like that tend to have a shorter life span. And despite it being a dinner jacket, the fit lends itself to suggesting wear outside of black tie, both because of the fit and because it's being sold as a separate.

If you've got the cash to blow and you really, really, like it, go for it I guess. But you might find its uses a bit limited.

That would be someone having some fun with the idea of a dinner jacket. It looks like they've taken some inspiration from very traditional British formal clothing and uniforms and applied it to a dinner jacket foundation.

Is it the safest thing to try to pull off? No. But it's perfectly possible and could look really good if you have the chops. If you're having to ask though, I wouldn't recommend trying just yet.
