Personally, wearing beautifully crafted clothing that fits well on my bodily and accentuates my features or hides my bad ones makes me feel great. You'll cringe really bad once you start looking back on how you dressed and how you seriously cared what a bunch of rednecks from nowhere knew about fashion.

In the end it's all up to you. They are just clothes after all. My motto is if you're going to have to wear clothes, why not do it well? You probably don't put to much thought into your outfits besides functionality but there is so much more behind it. Color, texture, profile, history, profile, cut, etc. There are hundreds of things that are behind the clothes that you wear that you don't even notice. Once you realize this you'll start to understand fashion.
