You mean like a band that dresses well?

Not the entire band, but the first to come to mind is Karen O. I understand if someone wants to criticize this suggestions for her being too theatrical/dramatic, however. The Knife, Bjork, and Of Montreal are similar in terms of theatre/drama/costumery. IIRC The National wears suits to their performances, no? I haven't watched them live at all so you'd have to make sure their fitting is OK.

What are you talking about?
It has begun, on twitter, and it's already getting old. Alt lit has been shit for years but even the-jogging has been going downhill since christmas, the "post-internet" essay collection got published 2 years ago, chinesewifi (spencer longo)'s new tweets are crap, jessica ciocci took her twitter down again. I just feel like people are getting sick and bored and want to shake things up, similar to what sparked the no wave movement,

interesting stuff, makes me excited to see where we're heading. I think he's mostly just connecting sporadic, independent things together under a certain dichotomy rather than it being any sort of movement, but it's cool to see where we're pushing towards. I don't know if it really is feasible for a traditional sense of a movement to happen, I think it's rather an overall shift in values.
I feel like the effect of the internet is really going to be on the level of personal perspective, where institutional boundaries are dissolved leaving room for more clarity towards capitalist absurdity.
this is a good interview of adr

Thanks for the articles, interesting stuff.
I as a music student have noticed two things.
1. More and more bands are combining traditional music with more abrasive types. I know a classically trained pianist who incorporates noise into his very erratic playing
2.Emphasis on minimalism. So, so many duos are emerging and so much interesting stuff is being made because of it. I myself have started experimenting with using tuned percussion in my work to contrast the bass.

Lot's of great things are happening, and I'm excited to see what we will get in the next couple of years. It's nice to see people getting sick of bland and formulaic music.

That's cool to know, very interested to see what the academic scene is going to turn to. Yeah, I really feel like we're coming up on a turning point in this next decade. The no wave and general post-punk era was really an amazing time of experimentation, moreso than any of the decades before it in terms of music, imo, and it does feel like we're heading towards similar values. You know, the 60s the avant-garde, glass, roach, et al. developed minimal music, in the 70s russel, eno, began incorporating it. Obviously, a very different brand of minimalism, but still. We just need a proper catalyst, a berlin wall to topple or punk to die or something. New drug maybe? Nike split soles?

>institutional boundaries are dissolved leaving room for more clarity towards capitalist absurdity.

I mean that a passive individual's concept of truth is defined by the sociopolitical system they partake in, but the internet as a global library gives the individual easy access knowledge beyond their physical limitations. Any state system is inherently absurd, and the internet simply allows you to easily recognize this.

For example, transsexuals have always been relegated into corners far out of the public consciousness. While homosexual culture has had the opportunity to transgress its degenerate roots and proliferate into mass media, I couldn't imagine transsexuals ever hoping for the same within older cultural models. Cheap body surgery and untested hormone manipulation to invert human reproduction organs is about the most grotesque, perverse fetishistic development I can think of. But with the accessibility of the internet, both as producers and consumers, places them all over, overexposes them to the point where they're no longer grotesque, where they're defended in mainstream rap acts and their dance scene is critically appraised in retrospect. The connotations of sexual degeneracy have dissolved to the point where accusing a fetish of "degeneracy" is generally seen as backwards-minded, because it's operating on a dated idea of morals from an absurd institution, large aspects of which are increasingly become irrelevant and corrupted.

>> No.6216233

rereading this feels a little blunt, I just used trannies as an example because I'd been talking about mykki blanco earlier. Considering it a "fetish" is silly imo too, just said it for the sake of a point. I'm tired.

>But with the accessibility of the internet, both as producers and consumers, places them all over,
Here I meant that both producing and consuming is accessible for everybody.

This is half-baked philosophy btw. I need to do more reading.

Obviously, I can't speak for everyone, but like I said
