OP, it's better to just wait for sales. It takes longer, and you might not get exactly what you want, but you get better fitting clothes, that will last longer, and you get the satisfaction of knowing it probably wasn't made by a six year old in a sweat shop.

"Button up" is any sport shirt or dress shirt with buttons on the front.

"Button down" means that it has a button down collar, like in this image.

I don't know how other people feel about express but until Monday everything in their store 40% off. I like to believe their button ups are of the best fitting for me, as a slender figure guy. I would suggest giving it a shot while shirts are $40 or less.

I buy my shirts from Forever 21, the fits are good and at a decent price range.

dude jcrew and vinevyard is where it's at. I love their oxfords. I have a few polo oxfords and they just dont feel as comfortable or fit as well as my jcrews and vineyard vines. although if i need a dressier shirt i typically start out by looking at RL

I've picked up a few Merona button ups from Target on the clearance rack for $10. The fit isn't too bad but definitely not fitted. I had two darts put in the back to slim them down. I've found a few slim dress shirts I've liked from Macy's on the clearance rack for $10 or so. I've found a handful of shirts at garage sales and thrift stores. The rest I've bought at different retail stores during "sales" for about $30 or so.
