they're right. currently at music college and they've been telling us since day one how hard it is to get a job, though at least it's a little easier for me since i play a versatile instrument (double bass). it's fun though, and i don't have to worry about that shit for a while yet.

STEM fields are short on jobs anyways, go fucking do music. Right now there are two graduates in a STEM field for every job in those fields, AND the immigration bill that will probably pass has a huge increase on the H1-B visa cap.

In the end you'll end up doing temp jobs for your day job anyways, so at least study music and have a decent night job that you enjoy.

i pretty much gave up listening to music coz the ringing in my ears got so bad and music seemed to make it worse. went from cycling through albums end to end all day and buying a few lps each week to basically nothing

so I investigated other pursuits/passions, got into reading a whole lot more, running and of course fashion and here I am

when i was 18 i was like
k ima go business school, make money, and then start fashion design so i dont go broke
but then i would be like 24 before i start anything
and the years and money put into business and whatnot could be used towards my dreams

just go for your passion man
if you're passionate enough about it
you'll somehow make it

there is lots of room for error and growth
now starting something when you're in your 30s on the other hand...
