Mainly because Armani has like a hundred diffusion lines that Euro/Turkish/Persian immigrants cling on to like flies.
Also /fa/ likes lines that innovate and use textures, shapes and motion as part of their story. Since /fa/ is mostly university students with superiority complexes, posters can't afford EVERYTHING designer and typically buy the best basics they can and work toward their dream wardrobe by splurging on pieces that influence their appearance dramatically (denim, outerwear, shoes) while they use what they have to emulate the look they're after. Prada has nice shapes, prints and eyewear, but this board doesn't place much value on those things. With the exception of Dior Homme, the designers you named aren't typically known for that type of dramatic influence. Also some older members are still mourning the departure of Hedi and hold a grudge against KVA.

Wouldn't say Armani is bad but they're way overpriced for what you're getting. All of the lines are terrible except for Collezioni and Black Label. But for the price of a collezioni suit or shirt you could get something much better. Their suits aren't full canvassed.. and for 2k that's very strange. They're also not vented at all which you could say is a style choice but I don't know many high end italian tailors who don't vent their suits. I like getting Armani stuff at thrifts though because people eat that shit up on ebay.

Those brands have a bad reputation because their most highly exposed price points are associated with conspicuous, charmless wogs. Their couture lines bear absolutely no resemblance to their retail lines in design. The stuff you actually have access to is just generic template shit made in sweatshops with logos emblazoned all over it to appeal to people who like logos.

Fashion writers criticize it because it's a very different direction than YSL and all those fashion writers are like 60 and Yves is dead now and the change reminds them that they are also going to die. Suzy Menkes, for example thinks that androgyny in fashion was a dream from the 80s that you can't shake the memory of.

Do their opinions matter? we are the next generation of critics, writers, and consumers. The way that fashion "knowledge" will be valued in the future is still unknown since high fashion has developed into this international sensation in the last 40 years that may of today's leaders have been working in the industry. If fashion is like art history or aesthetic studies, we will develop and refer to schools of thought about each collection and its place in a collection. However now that you don't have to be at a fashion show or work for Conde Nast to publish what you think abouta show, reactions are obviously much more varied. Among Suzy's voice are the voices of bloggers, buyers, high school students live-streaming the show and tweeting commentary. If a blogger's voice could become so important, why couldn't ours do the same?

SLP, the rebranded house formerly known as Yves.Saint Laurent, released its first line after the rebranding last fall. It isn't a "new line" or a diffusion. It's a change under the new head designer

The change between spring collections is most noticeable since Stefano's last fall collection is mostly black too, though it lacks Hedi's silhouettes and carefree attitude

My friends think brands like Dolce and Gabanna are the best, and that I only hate them because a bunch of "nerds on the internet" (i.e. you guys, 'cause I say I post here) say they suck.

They say that when people ask what shirt you're wearing you want to be able to tell them it's Hugo Boss or something, not something nobody's ever heard of like Jil Sander.
