and for the record, insurgents win conflicts not because of combat acumen (obviously), but because first world countries lack both the strength and patience to defeat them. afghanistan went the way of vietnam because we have another weak president who's willing to take the lives of thousands of soldiers and make it all for nothing, just for a couple brownie points with the media and his constituency.

You're alright man.
But I disagree on the last point, I think that by getting the U.S. people against the wars, the insurgents won in all those cases. You don't need to be the best military, you just have to have the best image. If you turned any country's people against it's own military, it would stop fighting, that's not Obama's (or Nixon's) fault. You need a supportive populace to fight, and we just don't have that in the U.S. anymore.
