The heat you're using to straighten your hair will still damage your hair. Sorry man, I staightened my hair all through jr high and it just started splitting and I had to cut it short before it got to the root.

Try different shampoos and conditioners that give it a soft impression so its easier to manage and make it go straighter without resorting too ironing it.
