Guys how do I stop getting mad / hating people who don't know shit about fashion but act like they're "fashionistas" and constantly post shit on facebook, I feel like I'm not being any better than them by thinking they're plebs and shit but how 2 transcend this phase?

Kill yourself. Why get mad? If you don't agree argue with them about it and then they will realise they're a pleb or make you look like a pleb

Just look and laugh. Then let it be. Plebs gonna pleb.

>tfw korean
>tfw general korean fashion community is fucking bullshit because korea was poor as fuck and only started modernizing 30-50 years ago so no cultural background / history to back up fashion culture
>tons of facebook 'fashion' communities that post waywts filled with circlejerks of plastic ass bitches posting face and not outfit
>all outfits fucking suck and these people have no fucking idea what fashion is
>these fucks will do anything to associate themselves with what koreans call 'fashion people' or 'fappies' (serious) which is a fucking stupid term they came up with
>will do anything to look like they're involved in fashion like buying tickets to fashion shows and spamming social media with pics, dressing up and going to a popular shopping neighborhood in hopes of getting photographed

all of my fucking rage
nothing really bothered me before until recently i discovered the state of fashion among the people in korea
it's really weird, other nationalities can do this and it won't bother me but seeing my nationality do this makes me rage idk why

I've seen a couple of documentaries, short films and videos about that. It sounds awful m8.
I find it so strange that Korea, a country that has such a rich cultural heritage preserved by many people (in my opinion and from what I've been able to gather from a lot of reading), is getting megasmashed by all this sudden Anglification of the underdeveloped or in means of development world.

Here in Chile people go crazy for Made in China shit Topshop and H&M bring, this last one opening its first store here a couple of weeks ago. It's so hilarious to see these people way behind trends, thinking they're so trendsetters and whatnot when they are just a regurgitation of whatever couldn't be sold in the US and Canada.
There are a few people who try stepping out of the box though, and while I do embrace the enormous amount of options we now have when it comes to fashion in this country, it irks me that everyone still dresses the same.

Well yeah we have alot of cultural history but it seems like alot of it is lost today especially with the extremely fast rise of the younger "culture" and also there is no distinct "identity" of a korean, I mean look at Japan, they have a history of being the most creative motherfuckers and it shows in their crazy fashion subcultures. Over in Korea, they never had a history of fashion so people nowadays just copy whatever they see in other countries without understanding the context or the background. It's all just a big game of dress up for many of them. You see pictures from Seoul Fashion Week that make NO sense. It's all a jumbled mess of the most stand-out pieces they could find, and I have a hard time believing that so many people are dressed that way because it's a part of their personality or what they like especially since koreans are usually very conservative.

But idk really, maybe i'm just not used to seeing my country's people dressed this way. And this is all speaking based on the group of wannabes i've seen so far, so there could always be higher - thinking people over there who are not like this

curious to hear more about this. i go to a public research uni in michigan and the korean international students are usually the most well dressed there, not that there's much competition. their clothes don't look great quality but they're usually wearing something bizarre and interesting. saw a korean girl about a month ago in pink plastic translucent platform creepers with spikes (not studs, actual plastic spikes) protruding from them. seems like they're still doing better than average american teen.

Yeah pretty much this. The only times I've seen Koreans have pride in their culture is when talking about the national soccer team or talking about that island they've been in a feud with japan for the last whatever many years.

this is interesting. it seems like even if korea isn't great at innovating clothes (based on what you're saying), they're still pretty good at launching trends based on what other people have created. isn't yesstyle korean-based? that's like, a beacon of trendy asian fast fashion

"Gothninja" exists in korea as well though, it's just that so many of them just don't get it. It's a product of just copying what looks cool. I mean I guess they could build off of that and learn the ideas behind the general look but right now it's pretty much

>GOTHIC FASHION
>GOTHIC FASHION BLOGS
>GOTHIC FASHION FB PAGES LIKE THIS PAGE RICK OWENS
>LOOK AT CAMILA SKOVGAARD SIMILAR TO RICK OWENS SO COOL
>ALL BLACK GOTHIC SO EDGY
>HOW TO DRESS GOTHIC 101

You see what I'm saying? There's no real intellectual input by most of the people, it's just 'LOOK AT THIS LOOK AT THAT SO COOL OMG FASHION THOM BROWNE TRENDS' they don't understand the cultural context of the things they see in other countries, for example what people despise here and call 'hipster' or 'tumblrcore' or 'swagfag' they eat up like it's some holy grail of style and try to emulate the style but nobody tells them that it's silly overseas

>> No.6114130

Yep this too, but kpop and kdrama are all part of the 'younger' new generation of culture, so not much pride in historical culture.

I know what you're saying. People often see fob asians and think 'wow he's well dressed' (more than average people) but that's only because that's the 'standard' of 'trendy' here. It's absolute shit. It's like a uniform that changes once every few years and the worst part is korea is MASS flooded with fast fashion like >>6114106 said, yes there's your H&M Zara and Forever21 but on top of that there are like 50 other big chain fast fashion retailers AND ON TOP OF THAT there are thousands of online shopping websites that all sell clothing for extremely cheap. Thousands. So the result is they know nothing about actual fashion and dressing, they just copy copy copy and are told what to buy. It's a costume, they don't actually represent that lifestyle or the look.

Building on top of this, I remember seeing a "Fashion" page on fb that posted a picture of Kanye wearing his skirt and the caption was something like "Fashion trendsetter and Icon Kanye West in a givenchy skirt! Looks very trendy and gothic, this summer skirts are in! You should attempt it!" and comments were all "Wow so avant garde!" "Kanye west fashion icon" "Best dressed singer ever" "Where's his shoes from?" "Wheres his x from?" "Wow I should try dressing gothic this summer"

>korea is MASS flooded with fast fashion
so is it just like, there are more fast fashion retailers in korea and consequently they cycle thru trends faster and are willing to take more risks with more extreme clothing in an attempt to rise above the competition? because yesstylecore is still more wacky and eccentric than forever21core

pretty sure people don't even know of yesstyle or that style of clothing in korea

and no fast fashion is pretty much same as it is here than there BUT since there is a larger variety there is a bigger pool of styles but generally it's more like

>average non-fashion caring person, wears whatever and north face jackets etc
>people who think they know about fashion because they browse 'fashion blogs' and 'streetstyle' blogs
>wow japan and europe and america dress so cool, i want to do fashion too
>copy but tone it down because no confidence to rock it because it's not a reflection of who they are
>yay i am fashion now, i am fappie / fashion people
>circlejerk and stay on that level forever

then im guessing theres the transcended people which i have yet to see

I know one of those girls.

One time she poked fun at a rick tee and I jokingly said it was too next level for her.

She responded, "maybe for guys, but next level girls shop at urban outfitters and forever21"

she was serious

like when u see the k-pop idols dressed in rick owens?

I always lel when those people brag about their brands and shit wearing those ugly ass jeremy scott shit. It looks so cheap and goosh, like 'oh, look batman is a popular western comic, so i have a pullover that's just a ton of the batman logos'

I can respect when the outfits as a whole are pushing a boundary as it were, or attempting something new, but more often than not i find that its simply accessories, used only to frame the billboard that is their focal point, one piece that is clearly one designer or some wack shit.
