if people can afford to buy $300 tees i doubt it really matters to them whether or not it's "worth it" in the first place, designer clothes are a luxury and are not intended to be afforded by everyone. price is also superficial and seeing as that tee is buy ysl, it is fashionable lol, nice tee, nice cut, if you can't personally afford it then don't bother with it.

Don't have personal experience with Loro Piana, but I imagine it's pretty baller, amazing reputation. I'll probably invest in some in the future, but right now I'm all Ervell all the time. Ervell-wise, grab a couple lighter cotton pocket sweaters and wait till next season as well. The cotton is nice but the alpaca he uses in the winter is super soft and nice. The ones I grabbed last season are great.

And yeah, TB does have labels, my bad there if you're not down.

People on this board are either really wealthy or terrible with money.

They claim that they can "afford" ludicrously-priced shit that usually doesn't even look good, but what does "afford" even mean?

I make $150k and still budget pretty conservatively. I buy quality items, but there are dramatic diminishing marginal returns after a certain point. And $1400 sneakers and $700 sweaters pass that point.

Yes, I wouldn't have to sell my house and car to buy $700 sweaters. But I might not be able to retire as early as I'd like. I might not be able to afford to send three kids to private school, but only two.

The future value of a dollar today is far greater than $1. Your money should never be sitting in a checking account.

Even if you receive the risk-free rate and no more, which is unlikely, your money more than triples over 40 years.

I don't know how you guys can justify that at such a young age. I'm genuinely curious and would love a logical response.

well first, most posters here are 18 in college with 0 living expenses, that includes not having 3 kids.

and some people may simply value fashion as a hobby or whatever it may be to them- more than you. a lot of posters here have expensive tastes, and invest into single pieces as to quality>quantity (well i can't say a lot of posters here actually make that investment, but take a look at sf and sufu, and even posters on sz don't seem to have an actual huge income). my wardrobe is extremely limited for example but i have no limit as to how much i would spend on something, if i liked it enough.

I don't have any kids either. I'm only 23. I just realize that the chances of someone my age living for a very long time are pretty high. And I'd like to live an increasingly-comfortable and luxurious life as time goes on.

As opposed to having to save-up for items and still being broke at 30.

Some here just seem unable to budget from what I can tell. Or don't realize that there is a middle-ground. For example, I'd love to buy a 2013 G-Wagon and I could come up with the cash if I liquidated some assets. But my 2007 Range Rover will do just fine for a few more years.

I could buy $700 sweaters, but a $100-$200 sweater will do just fine. It will fit fine, the fabric and construction will be good, and I don't see myself wearing holes through the elbows any time soon.

Saving up for something is better budgeting than maxing out credit cards.

Also, considering grown-adult sapeurs wear outfits worth thousands of dollars and live in poverty, I don't think it should be this difficult to understand why a care-free teen/early 20s person would spend their discretionary income on relatively inexpensive ($1200 moonboots are cheaper than $3900 crocodile leathers) rather than save up for retirement 40+ years from now.
