Finished the pocket

Thoughts

Also here's my current plan on the bomber but I'm not sure if i like it too much atm

So the body and left sleeve will be dust colored cotton twill but the right sleeve will be anti static satin same as the pocket

Ideas? I may do black /grey twill instead of dust

I probably know far less about applied construction than you do, squids... But I like what I see so far. It's good to see you taking this whole process from the ground up - making something like this from scratch is quite impressive.

I don't know if reversing the standard pull of the zipper is blasphemy in a situation like this, but I've always wanted my sleeve pockets to open by pulling the zip towards me, instead of reaching over and pulling down. However, I'm not sure if this might cause problems with the pocket getting pulled open at inopportune times.
While we're on zippers, would a double zip on a bomber be a major no-no? I love having jackets I can vent open at the bottom because it means I don't need to stretch out the fabric when I sit. It also provides an opportunity to show a triangular flash of color beneath via layering.
Have you found out what print you'll be lining it with yet? There are so many options in that department I wouldn't know where to begin.

Lastly, put some hidden stash pockets in the thing! Little secret places you can hide extra cab fare, a spare key or whatever. Something tucked away and velcro sealed, where only you will find it. I wish more garments had features like this. Back in my late 90's rave days we used to take apart pants around the seams and the crotch just to install little pockets. You never know when that space comes in handy.

Thank you, the fact that the zip would open away is a result of poor planning lol

I was thinking about that I find two way zippers a lot cooler than plain ones, they're more useful.

also yeah I kind of want to have tonnes of random pockets and stuff, I think that'd be cool. If like the whole thing could carry like 694948281110 different things in cool ways

I was entertaining the notion of a jacket that could double as a backpack that could double as a sleeping bag I think that'd be so cool

I think the only strong case for having the arm pocket zipper pull down to open is so the pull tab doesn't rest outside of the rectangular piece of fabric that defines the pocket, thus breaking a visual line. This could be easily remedied by cutting that rectangle a bit different or using a zip with a smaller pull, I suppose. Or you could just say fuck it, and let ease of use carry the day.
Hidden pockets are probably best on the inside, where the bottom ribbing meets the body of the coat at the side seams, as the stitching and placement of your arms will be distracting.
Good luck, brother. This is a great start.

Another time, perhaps, no disrespect. I ramble enough as is, and it's just been a strange day. Catch me on the flipside sometime in a 3am thread, I'll tell you whatever you want to know.

>>6023654
The whole thing was pretty dead by 2002-3, imo. Raves are supposed to be quasi-legal freakshows in boarded up factories, not an excuse to drugs with children in outmoded pants and pay Ticketmaster for the privilege. I'm sure the realness is still out there somewhere, but it still feels like an idea whose time has passed.

people still do warehouse shit, those never stop just the people who throw them get arrested and bored with the strange pussy and someone else takes over. It's hard to keep the cops out unless you're in an absolute shite neighborhood where they're too concerned with people actually getting shot to deal with blockwide noise violations.

the freakshow is still there, but its like, people are idiots. and it's not like that's a new thing, people are and always have been idiots. its not even the children, its the old "family" fucks going on about how "shit was better back then", "you missed it", "man i did so many drugs that one time and i was a multi-eye'd beast", ect ect ad nauseum.

Nothing happened, you just got really fucking high with your young idiot friends and had a great time, that's all that happened. the only thing different was you were younger then and you weren't trying to sell these poor young fucks research chemicals because they don't know any better, making them OD, getting people sued for your negligence and making it harder to party.

Seriously, if you sell research chemicals, you're a fucking cunt and i hope someone puts a bullet in you sometime soon.

>> No.6026616

junkies don't buy from people they don't know at a show because they're too paranoid for that shit.

seriously, im sick of seeing shit get shut down because some young cunt that doesn't know what he's doing bought "molly" from some guy, snorted it all trying to prove to some girl that he could "really hang" and nearly die in a jibbering mess of shit and spittle just because the fag selling it to him was trying to make a tiny little bit more money selling poison.

its fucking disgusting and people that do it ought to be strung up.

Here in NY we had a lovely thing known as the "reverse sting" that's only recently been struck down by the courts. Police would pose as dealers and sell fake drugs, then arrest the buyers.

>>6026588
I've talked about this before, I think, but what happened to the rave scene in my city was that it just got infiltrated by thugs, druggies and undercovers. I went to a lot of parties where I just brought along a six pack or 40 oz. I just danced, and didn't take a thing. At the risk of sounding corny, I think it was more about the music at one point. The drugs kind of overshadowed everything else when the media started painting the scene as a roiling den of iniquity and ecstasy use. Sure, there were always drugs, but after some hack reporter interviews a few saucer-eyed teens outside a warehouse there's an inevitable flood of actual junkies and thrill seekers that kind of poison things.
Then there were the thugs, robbing people for pills and cash. Remember when you could just leave your bag and jacket on the floor and it would still be there, untouched, four hours later? The problem was that the scene couldn't really defend itself from incursion. Try and start shit at a hardcore show or a hip-hop house party full of b-boys and real heads: you'll be in stitches before you can count to ten. Not so at raves, or at least this was my experience.
I also think the rise in use of PCP and Crystal played a role in Rave Culture's downfall, but more than anything I think it's an idea whose time has passed. People are too cynical, to 'over everything', the synth sounds are all played out, the fashion looks terrible and the notion of a Temporary Autonomous Zone doesn't seem to be in play. It's just... a party.

But it was a lot of fun.
Maybe if I ever get out to Cali I'll start looking around for the real thing once more.
