>generic hipster/thrift store thrown together/old USA or animal portrait graphic tee that has cracks in it/i don't give a fuck yet inversely i give every fuck because i want you to find me attractive
>clean hipster i shop at american apparel and dress like their models, skanky, yet clean dressed and clean cut, the girl you are intentionally mean to (in some playful sense) at a party because she previously thought she was the shit, and finds it attractive that she's not being male worshiped
>gothic/crust punk, septums, leather jeackets, doc martins or combat boots, girls that look like they don't want to be fucked with, tattoos everywhere, drink like sailors and act like they don't give a fuck. never really talk to them though.
>girls that wear all black form fitting clothes (pic related) to try and look avant-garde and try hard because they are all artists or make sub genre music, extremely pretentious and usually come from money to support their urban loft life style. these are my favorite, i constantly try to fuck a girl like this every chance i get.

oh ru asking the origins of my trip????
i started as a tripfag on 2009 (i think summertime) /v/ because they were still ANON IS LEEJUN BAN ALL TRIPS back then due to several people really shitting up the board, the one I remember the most was Lanced Jack. It caused instant bootybother just to even use a trip. at the time I still anon'd on other boards (I think I browsed /mu/ on very rare occassions, which is where I got the idea for SKCS.) It's a song lyric from a plebbier time. Pic related is the trip I used up until August of 2011 when my hard drive crashed and I stopped browsing 4chan until January of 2012. Around that time, I had just built a new desktop and remembered an album I got from a sharethread called "Angherr Shisspa". I used tripcode explorer to find 2pleb4u, started listening to Zeuhl, spent about a half a year as /mu/'s resident self-proclaimed zeuhl "expert", then stopped browsing /mu/ and only visiting related chatrooms etc. around august I stopped going to anything /mu/ related and spent a little bit of time lurking /fa/. Started posting here a lot more in November, along with frequenting /pol/.

>generic hipster/thrift store thrown

“Hipster” is a term co-opted for use as a meaningless pejorative in order to vaguely call someone else’s authenticity into question and, by extension, claim authenticity for yourself.

It serves no conversational function and imparts no information, save for indicating the opinions and preferences of the speaker.

Meanwhile, a market myth has sprung up around the term, as well as a cultural bogeyman consisting of elusive white 20-somethings who wear certain clothes (but no one will agree on what), listen to certain music (no one can agree on this either), and act a certain way (you’ve probably sensed the pattern on your own).

You can’t define what “that kind of behavior or fashion or lifestyle” actually is, nor will you ever be able to. That’s because you don’t use “hipster” to describe an actual group of people, but to describe a fictional stereotype that is an outlet for literally anything that annoys you.

The twist, of course, is that if it weren’t for your own insecurities, nothing that a “hipster” could do or wear would ever affect you emotionally. But you are insecure about your own authenticity - “Do I wear what I wear because I want to? Do I listen to my music because I truly like it? I’m certainly not like those filthy hipsters!” - so you project those feelings.

There are several types of people classified as hipsters. First there are the actual artistic, Bohemian types. Technically they aren't hipsters because they have a genuine interest in that area and the hipster style originated with them. Second there are the original hipsters who emulated the Bohemians in order to be 'hip.' It is attractive because anyone can claim to be an artist without any real output of effort.

The next stylistic trend in hipsters was 'irony'. Hipsters began to appropriate from other subcultures as a means of distinguishing themselves from the crowd. They feigned passion to give the impression of depth and to assert their superiority over others but without any real knowledge or commitment. When challenged they had a defensive mechanism of claiming that they were only doing it 'ironically.'

The third and current stage of hipster is the commitment to obscurity. Within any subculture, the hipster tries desperately to stay ahead of the trend by latching onto unknown bands, performers...even clothing designers! By clinging to obscurity the hipster can maintain their superiority because their opinion can't be challenged since no one is familiar with the subject matter.

So there you have it, the reason why 'hipster' is considered meaningless is because it's changed from being a subculture into a positional tactic. Its peaked and is now in the stage where it is diffusing into general culture. Soon it will reach the stage where we stop using the term because it is completely integrated into society.

Nicely said.
I'm interested in seeing what, if anything, the dissonance between obscurity as an ideal and general mass diffusion of the subculture will produce.
