FBT, or maybe you mean the Shaman.
They fit pretty true to size in my experience, but it depends. The made in China and made in Korea pairs normally fit more tts than the made in Japan pairs.
The FBT's are really interesting, honestly the most interesting new sneaker silhouette since the mid 80s when Nike was going all out.
Come on, just look at the picture, Visvim is way more wearable than Rick. better construction too. Who would choose a crepe sole that gets worn the fuck out over a goodyear welted sole?

The truth of the matter is that I'm biased because I don't like the way a lot of it looks. Simple as that.

Eventually go a answer, p.lack luster but just went w/ it.

tl;dr it's like the infusion of many sort of asian cultural aspects intertwined into somewhat focal points of traditional garments to produce a result that expresses all these cultural facets but also is still marketable to the avg. sufu sneakhead. Oh and something about interesting use of recently manufactured fabrics (i.e what CDG does) while also incorporating other weird shit.

Just a sort of hyper version of Supreme w/ a more crazy lust for luxury and a 'cultural' twist.

>>5913995
Oh, ok. I legitimately went to bed, sorry I didn't see your post.

I think what's so interesting about Hiroki is that he has such a wide range of influences, and while that's nothing special for a designer, I feel the way he manifests them, to me, seems more heavily rooted in creating wearable, interesting clothing rather than abstraction. He brings together native american indian culture, various other indigenous cultures, including the Inuits, traditional american outdoorswear and workwear, the strong techwear tradition of Japan, military surplus gear, and of course traditional japanese culture all come together extremely organically in his collections, because at the root, all these influences are what made him start Visvim in the first place, it's a culmination of all his cultural experiences - he sees clothing as a way of representing traditional culture and clothing physically rather than a more traditional high fashion designer would manifest more abstract ideas such as architecture, visual art, sculpture and other forms of high art. I always find the intricate details of production extremely interesting as well - the use of traditional sashiko stitching on down jackets, traditional dying process, the little decorations on FBT models - it just to me represent a very individualized product.
>>5914065
No, TurnLeft is actually pretty wrong on that one, but it helps bring me to another point. I feel that Hiroki recontextualizes aspects of other garments and cultures into his pieces, and a lot of his most interesting items are amalgams of two interesting styles or a twist on a design classic. Yes, Hiroki uses a fair amount of synthetics, but rather than using polyester a la Comme des Garcons to create bizarre, albeit conceptually and visually interesting pieces, Hiroki's work is more about modernizing classic designs - The M65, a Peacoat, a Blazer - and making them as utilitarian and hardwearing as possible (part 1/2)

>> No.5914104

>>5914065
I guess synthetics but I wouldnt say just sort of innovative approaches to blends but ofc made artificially so in that regard synthetics but...It's used in a pretty intelligent way so don't associate negative stigmas.

He does use a lot of technical fabrics such as Windstopper, Goretex and SPM to weatherproof and waterproof garments, while still using traditional materials such as hand-dyed cotton and wool. He also seeks to maximize the potential of natural fabrics, especially leather , especially in the folk range - trying to make shoes and leather garments that go through as little treatment as possible to retain the breathable and malleable natural properties of the leather - and what do all these breathable fabrics like Goretex and Windstopper and even leather have in common? They're comfortable, breathable, and as such, they function almost like a second skin - this is one of Hiroki's main ideas, one that he's incorporated since he established Visvim as a footwear company.
I suppose you could relate Visvim's use of so-called "technical fabrics" to techwear brands like arc'teryx veilance that contemporize classic, minimalistic designs like blazers or traditional mountain parkas with technical fabrics, keep in mind, Visvim's been doing this since the early 2000s, while arc'teryx veilance didn't start production until 2009 - I'd say Hiroki's use of technical fabrics has more to do with his work at a snowboarding company and having to utilise hardwearing materials, and then seeking to integrate those materials into a more traditional design aspect - I think it's a perfect way of illustrating of how Hiroki bridges different ideas seamlessly - using traditional fabrics with cutting edge production techniques, melding traditional cultures with more streetwear-oriented design, etc. Like Turnleft said - he makes garments with a huge amount of thought and culture behind them, but that are approachable and wearable by almost anyone, and is extremely versatile in terms of style and application. That's why it bothers me when I just see people write off Visvim as "dadcore" or "hypebeast streetwear" because I feel it has so much more to offer than that

I appreciate the post. It's actually making a lot more sense to me. Is there a visual archive of the brand any place? I want to pay more attention to places at which he connects the culturally rooted details. I think one could make an interesting point about shared threads between all cultures if this concept were properly executed.

William Gibson has a whole book about this crossover between high end snowboarding gear, tactical military stuff and the fashion world... He mentions Japanese designers crossing over between fields. It's in Zero History, iirc. Perhaps Hiroki was an inspiration for my favorite author?

I really had no idea that the brand went so deep. As I said before, I'd love a place to get a better look at it. Barney's usually has some in store but an archive or retrospective would be awesome.

Thanks for taking the time.

>Is there a visual archive of the brand any place?
Turnleft asked the same question, and the sad answer is, no. Nobody has scanned the 10 year retrospective (to my knowledge), and the early dissertations for each year never really pop up on the bay that much :(
You can gleam a lot from various interviews and stuff on the internet though, and text articles as well. I really wanted a copy of the latest issue of the New Order because it had a huge write-up on Visvim but it sold out really fast, and the shipping from europe where it's in stock is like twice the price of the magazine
>>5914199
Wait, I think I know what book you're talking about, 90% it was in the superfuture technical wear thread
>>5914159
Also, just a couple more caveats because I was at about 2000 words there.
I like how Hiroki is committed to creating a product that has some sense of individuality - you might see small blemishes on the leather - simply because there isn't a whole lot of treatment, and most treatment is organic vegetable dying, and furthermore, Hiroki likes maximizing the use of any hides, despite some minor superficial flaws, as long as they aren't of insufficient quality for manufacturing. Almost every pair of visvim footwear comes out different in a way.
Also I find his committal to trying to use organic, environmentally friendly methods of dying, tanning, and sourcing materials interesting, but I'm sure in this day and age not everyone cares about the environmental impact of their products.
Oh, and while I touched on it, he's always looking to exploit new, forward thinking avenues for production, and utilizing classic, work intensive methods such as Goodyear welting in order to make the best possible products
And a lot of people complain about the price, and while it is definitely more expensive than most of it's streetwear contemporaries, Visvim inarguably provides a much better, higher quality product that is worth the price.

I'm feeling those, after what you mentioned about sustainable production techniques and natural dyes, minimal treatment of leather. I love when there are unique points to every piece, like the way they do the bowls for the japanese tea ceremonies, I always liked that - finding beauty in little irregularities that don't affect quality, only character.

I'm big on sustainability and first world goods, I feel like I been missing out by letting my assumptions speak for me.
