Well it was the first time that I was Not underwhelmed by Rolex, but I wasn't wow'd either. It fits well and the clasp is great, the bracelet was a bit too thin I guess but overall for that price it felt great. No complaints really.
I will take pics next time I guess but I don't know if I really want it. It didn't click with me like the Moser and I promised myself I won't ever buy a watch again that doesn't make me smile the moment I see it or try it on.
That's the reason why I got the blue moser and not the green one.

Makes sense; I think the Pepsi might catch your eye more; I still see it as the ideal GMT from Rolex.

Well, keep trying them on, and make sure to try on earlier generations of them too; they all wear differently.

I too only tend to buy watches that make me smile on a first try, even if I'm in a terrible mood. The Speedy always did that, as did the Seamasters. There's a certain magic when it happens. Good luck in the search!

If you really want it, then it should look ok on your 7.5" wrist. I have a Pagani, no issues so far. Seiko VK chronograph mov't inside. If I were to get that model, I'd choose the black/gold dial.

This honestly just isn't true.

Which is absolutely the norm for this type of watch.

If you're going to go under a thousand, you might as well just go with San Martin or some other brand like that. The difference between a 200.- watch and a 900.- one is irrelevant.

If you have the ability to save a little longer and are willing to buy used, you can get the actual IWC for well under 3,000.-

It doesn't even have a bracelet though, and it would look weird on different straps. Your every day watch should be workable with either a bracelet or rubber straps so you don't have to worry about them getting wet. >> No.18293282

>they're not suited for day to day knocking about for most people.
People wear watches on leather straps daily and have done for over a century.
If you're worried about knocks and splashes, you should not buy a Patek. Those watches are for people who can be trusted to take care of their possessions.

I think you're missing the point.
You can wear a precious metal watch daily. Even the fragile ones can take a beating. You don't have to baby these things.
Picrel is the watch I've worn basically daily for the past eight years. I've beaten the bag out of it. Sure, it's banged-up, but even a supposedly soft metal like gold is tougher than people think.
30m of water resistance means it can still get dunked accidentally.

In those instances where I expect my watch to take more of a beating, like rock climbing or something, I have a G-Shock for that.

If you're going to spend the money on a Patek, why keep it locked away to only wear on special occasions. Wear it. If it gets too bashed, Patek can always bring it back to like-new for you.
Enjoy your shit. If you spend too much time worrying about it, you no longer own it; it owns you.

got a nice deal on both of these seikos (snk381 and snk361) but i'm still undecided, thoughts?
I'm leaning towards the snk381 because I like numerals, but both look cool.

Legibility and lume is really good. I don't like how the hour hand looks somehow too short and stubby though. If I get it repaired I'll have the handset swapped. Dial pattern on the right is dumb. I'd still get left for the full lumed numeral indexes.

I tend to take the mid-road on this one. I take good care of my watches, and they normally don't get scratched. I also wear them and wear vintage watches as dailies. The older generations took care of their timepieces, treating them carefully and usually only having 1. I do the same; treat every watch as if it's the only one I have.

Quite honestly, I'm not sure what could scratch my watches, especially if they're under a cuff. Wooden desks won't scratch them, and if I'm doing anything that requires tools of any sort, I'm usually not wearing a watch at all, or I'm wearing the Mark 40. I can't think of a reason a watch should get scratched in daily life unless the person wearing it is not careful with their hands/wrists.

I guess there is a fine line between not worrying about a watch and being reckless with one. I don't worry about my watches, but I'm not reckless...maybe that's the answer. Cool topic though!

I still have the Rolex I wore in high school and college. My father gave me his Tank when he retired. He was like "I'm retired, what the fuck do I need to know what time it is anymore?" They're both sitting in a box somewhere.
I have a G-Shock and a Garmin (if you guys consider that a watch) for sports and outdoorsy stuff.

As for being a one-watch person, mostly I'm just very careful with my purchases. I do my research ahead of time and consider all the information available to me. That way I never suffer from buyer's remorse nor do I feel the need to just keep buying more and more stuff.

Cartier is not a watchmaker, they make jewelry for women and niggers.
Their quartz caliber is worse than that in a $35 casio.
But my post wasn't even about it, i said there is no decent midrange quartz watch, except maybe for casio's anus. Also all swiss quartz watches are a waste of money in general, they lack functionality that japanese watches have such as solar battery, radio, gps or bluetooth connectivity. Breguet always fucks up their designs in some way.

>> No.18294270

>>18294238
Vacheron has a more versatile range. Breguet if you're only wearing formal clothes all week because the only line of theirs that's of any interest is the Classique. At least that's their only current line that's of any interest to me as the Marine is now absolutley fugly, the Type XX is a boring ass pilot chrono with shitty dial layout with below their overall standard of movement finishing and the Tradition, supposedly their "pièce de résistance" is a cluttered showpiece with a tiny dial. I hate tiny dials on large watches.

Vacheron's more formal or dressy models are still more versatile than Breguet's, and you could wear a traditionelle or patrimony in more casual attire without it looking odd. The superiority, albeit perhaps not the originality, of VC's casual/sporty lines over Breguet's is obvious. Breguet's more delicate looks in general makes them look a little weird if worn casually. Not saying you can't, but imagine a classique on a guy in an oxford with rolled sleeves and jeans vs a patrimony or traditionelle. Which looks less incongruous?
VC may be looking up, especially if AP and PP continue to shit the bed design -wise but Breguet still doesn't look like it's anywhere near "it's time in the sun" due to swatch's usual pathology of mismanagement.

Depreciation wise maybe it's dependent on models? Maybe VC has a slight edge? I'm not sure. About the same 30% give or take apart from hot items like some Overseethe variants and the 222. Lots of deals on older Breguets though, like the superior previous Marine which had its own charm in looking like someone tried to sportify an old pocketwatch. That's the only non typeXX Breguet that I could see working casually, as well as formally if you changed the rubber strap. The current marine isn't even worth looking at for long because it's so hideous.

It's gorgeous, the enamel dial is beautiful in person. Ultimately, it's about what looks better on your wrist. Have you tried on the VC yet? I have a soft spot for VC...their patrimony is beautifully conservative.

>>18294286
No prob. I wear pic related with jeans. If you wear the watch, and the watch doesn't wear you, then no one cares. Social acceptance is really just amplified fear; if you look like you don't have a problem wearing the watch, no one else will think you have a problem, and if they do, they will be in doubt of their own convictions if you're strong enough in personality. Buy it, enjoy it, and wear the fuck out of it. Don't give in to fear. Life is too short.

It's a liberating feeling actually trying on some pieces only to find that due to shape and size you'll never ever be able to wear them, so you can safely discard them from further consideration and never read anything about them online ever again.

I saw it too and it's not as big as I thought it would be. I mean it's a large watch but it looks similar in size to the Cartier Santos large (the one with the date window).

A buddy of mine, who's jewish, told me sephardic kikes love it while ashkenazis hate it. He also assured me that's the worst thing that could happen to Patek (I believe him).

Every once in a while he gets BTFO pretty hard and some people find that entertaining and start to miss avatarfag drama when it doesn't happen for a while. That's never going to happen. Being automatic was part of the original watch's design brief.

The thickness is something they can solve tomorrow if they wanted to. They make the 38mm Bathyscaphe and that's only 10.7mm thick, despite having the same 300m water reisistance.
The originals from the 1950s and 60s were around 13.5mm, so if they get it down to at least that, I would be fine.
