/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - LONGWING SUMMER EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

Body wash with lauric and myristic acid, along with palmitic acid in it. Soaps made from Coconuts contain this exfoliating, anti-fungal substance that is great for your skin. Look into the Taiwan-made Biore Body Wash soaps with the ingredients, then buy it.

This is a marketing post. There are dozens of Chinese brands trying to do grassroots marketing anonymously while hiding the Chinese roots and manufacturing quality on boards and forums in western countries. Specifically those that try to make their brands look western (Grant Stone, Cavour being examples you will see shilled on /fa/ often).

They are specifically trying to direct you from Chinese products at Chinese prices (AliExpress) and away from western brands so you get tricked into buying their overpriced shit.

You can get it down to a bit less if you cut some corners like Red Wing does in the USA.

You can get it down to a lot less if you cut a big corner and have chinks build it but apart from like Grant Stone and Meermin does anyone else do a good job at it?

shellvedge is just a boner and a massive tool trying to become the next big youtube influencer and being considered the "shell guy"
he has all this money in high-end shoes and other menswear crap, but won't fix his massive underbite problem
that's why he talks like a retard, because he has severe malocclusion and you can see his Habsburg chin, when he shows his profile sometimes

for how big his shell collection is, he's not that terribly knowledgable about it and doesn't deliver much substance in his videos
he does an "ultimate shell care guide" video like every 3 months and everytime the products he uses and the technique is different, which makes it hard to take any of it seriously
really the only consitent piece of information in his videos is "shell comes from the horse's butt"
mostly he just repeats whatever the current fad in the community is with shell care
he doesn't have much integrity as a reviewer, when all he does is first impressions on shoes and everytime the shiny new toy is the most well made and best fitting one yet, then it's gone without an explaination in the next collections update
what isn't gone ever is the alden and c&j, that he shits on for being aniquated "legacy brands" that should make way for these asian MTO brands
dude desperately wants to make this his income and even succeeded in weaseling himself into a partnership with pure polish and an overpriced wooden stick (unrelated side note: he's jewish)

dude's just a dickhead if you actually watch him
the funniest thing is when he shat on engineer boots and the hipsters that wear them, then got clinch and role clubs like immidiately after saying that
there are some of his livestream VODs up, where he gets increasingly pissed off and frustrated that he's just talking to an empty chat box

Cost of living and inflation is too high to be a wagie making shoes for 15 bucks an hour in a high cost of living state like Washington
Only people who will do it are old boomers who have owned their house since back when it cost 100k and don't worry about rent so 15 bucks to make shoes is fine for them
No young people can or will do it. They don't have enough workers for production so they are very limited by their output speed, and it will only get worse as the boomers retire or die and then they literally do run out of workers and either go out of business or move production overseas

nobody is getting any of those resoled anyway
this clown has no idea what he is talking about, when he starts saying shit about construction and how the cup sole stitch is actually the blake stitch and goes through the uppers into the insole
these are actually just cemented construction with a side wall stitch reinforcement like some sneakers, the "blake stitch" in these boots holds nothing together structurally besides the foam layers you stand on and the uppers tucked undeneath

why wouldn't you just get a redwing blacksmith for that money?

And lots of them will ghost you.
Unless you want something specifically from them it isn't worth it, they aren't a cheaper alternative with the same quality.
