They are incredibly autistic about recruiting original pieces down to the smallest detail. They stockpiled nos antique zippers for years to use on their repro jackets and when they ran out they commissioned some american zipper manufacturer to make exact replicas. They custom design and special order every fabric they use to match the original pieces as closely as possible.
There are other repro Japanese brands that make nice chinos the are probably cheaper, hell you can probably get the real McCoys ones cheaper if you buy on rakuten and use a proxy shipping service vs buying from their western website.
But real McCoys is the creme de la creme of Japanese repro brands at least when it comes to historic american military apparel.
Pay close attention to the fit and how it looks on models, it will probably be pretty relaxed and high waisted compared to contemporary chinos.
If you want something cheap and american and decent just get these, they won't be on the level of Japanese repros but they also cost 1/6 as much.

Fair warning they are not vanity sized so the listed waist size is the actual measured size of the waist, measure some pants you own

I bought Toys McCoy's Great Escape repro and it's sturdy, but remember to measure yourself and your trousers thoroughly.

Thanks, I know all about how they're supposed to fit, I'm wondering more if they're worth the premium over something like Buzz Rickson or Cushman

I ended up finding these 1963 US army chinos on eBay for $35, so I'm putting the Real McCoy's on hold for now

Jap repro brands make their patterns to fit small Jap bodies. Unless you are built like that I would say no. You can try Bryceland's as they are like a repro brand but designed by a fat Westerner for fat Westerners

I looked at the measurements and they'd definitely work for me. I'm 6'3" 185lb. I'll take a look at Bryceland's, but in any case, I ended up getting these >>18160965
