The hirsch straps do last a long while. I think I had the James on a field for a couple of years. only replaced when the keeper ripped off. Longest lasting strap I've ever had.
If it gets smelly just take it off the watch and use a toothbrush to brush soap on those rubber underside grooves.

Getting into watches has been kind of a mixed bag for me. On one hand watches made me more desirable to women and now I have a beautiful fiance. The down side is her cooking has me on a much healthier diet and I've gone from shitting soft serve once every 2 days or so to dropping 2 or maybe even 3 hard dumps a day, so multiple times a day I have to take all my jewelry off my wrists and hands to keep my nice stuff out of the way when I clean up after grunting out multiple solid shafts. A little 36mm watch is light, can be very thin, doesn't get in the way of anything, conforms easily to your wrist in any position, doesn't swing about even if you wear it a little loose... Why sacrifice your own comfort to try to appear a certain way to other people? Not to mention if we're talking about a simple 3 hand watch there's really no practical reason to go much larger than that, a clean dial with just hour and minute markers and no complications doesn't get much easier to read just blowing up the dial 2-4mm.

I'm the AT buyer above. The AD in my hometown doesn't have waiting lists, it's basically first come first serve as long as they know you.

He offered me the datejusts he had in stock but none of them fit my size and I can't bother to check in with them regularly unlike certain other desperate people so I went with my second choice. I actually now think its more aesthetic than the datejust.

I'm really disappointed that there are no good watches below $5k and even then it's slim pickings until you get to $10k. How come there are no "working class hero" watches that are still respectable and project an image of a tough guy, a bit rough around the edges, but ultimately a decent fellow you can count on when it's needed the most, this archetype is apparently wearing Rolex (while realistically I'm sure he would be wearing something lower).
