I saw someone get like 6 Duros for example

Agreed.

The most basic rotation of this style would be a silver dial Datejust, a black dial No-Date Submariner, and a yellow gold Tank Louis.

Depending on how you dress you might be able to reduce this a little further down to two.
If you rarely, if ever, get dressed up, you could be fine with a Submariner and a Datejust (then upgrade the DJ to a DD)
If you rarely dress very casually, then you could be fine with the Datejust and the Tank LC (and maybe upgrade the Tank to an HH-level dress watch)

Okay, I'll just write this down for you once, pay attention, kid.

Watches are one of the few accessories/jewelry that men can traditionally wear. A man needs a watch to be considered a working member of society, getting your first watch when you're a teen is a rite of passage.

Watches are functional precision instruments, they keep you organized and literally on time throughout the day, this is the reason quartz (watches) still exist.

As you progress in life you want to signal your elevated social status with a finer timepiece, something more than a mere timekeeper. In this stage of life time is not essential, you don't need to be in your wagie cage within the second. That is why people acquire, or as I like to say, meet mechanical timepieces. Watches such as Omega, Tudor and Rolex.

In a professional or any environment with affluent males, your watch is your Curriculum Vitae, your rank in a way. People will know you had to go further in life than your average poorfaggot mathlete to acquire a fine Patek for example.

Now I don't know your age, but could you imagine being over 25 and wearing a wagie poorfag incel seething bitter faggot lardass brainlet quartz watch in a serious environment? I don't think so, you'll be giving yourself away as a absolute loser in life and people will think there's something seriously wrong with you and wonder why you're even there with your cheap shitter piece of shit nasty crusty chinese watch.

Trust me, you don't want to be part of the quartz horde. Join the ranks of the men with sophistication and class and meet your mechanical watch. Discard your nasty wagie faggot ass piece of shit computer chip "watch".

Also thinking about drinking whisky today. Should I go for Loch Lomond or Glengoyne? What are your thoughts?

Alcohol is for degenerates, so I'll stick to water. But given the state of your wrist, I'm assuming you're trying to commit suicide in a "Leaving Las Vegas" style. I'd recommend drinking Sterno.

He's a Greek weeb in his 30s who used to live in Germany until his wife left him from his rampant cheating. He is dishonest even by Greek standards.
He got his name because he used to post pics of his shitty watches on whores back in Germany, which led to some hilarious months of him getting banned, evading the ban, and getting re-banned.
A few months ago he liquidated all his assets in Germany and is currently in Japan overstaying his welcome. He's trying to get a whore to marry him so he can get a residency permit and permanently pollute Japan as an unemployed person.

Between his blogposting and samefagging, he probably personally makes about half the posts in a given thread.

Yes actually. I recently bought an ultra luxury timepiece, and the thought of a watch in a lower tier makes my stomach churn.

>> No.18143887

He was a man of many labels, but none of them flattering. He called himself a Greek weeb, a term that seemed to defy any logical explanation. But then again, logic was not his strong suit. In his 30s,he had already lived a life filled with tumultuous ups and downs. He had once called Germany his home, until his wife had enough of his rampant cheating and left him. Even by Greek standards, he was dishonest, a master manipulator who could twist the truth to fit his own narrative. But his infamy didn't stop there. He gained his infamous moniker from his peculiar habit of posting pictures of his cheap, tacky watches on the backs of prostitutes. This led to some entertaining months of getting banned, evading the ban, only to get re-banned again.A few months ago, he decided to leave Germany for good and liquidated all his assets. His destination? Japan. He arrived with nothing but a plan-to overstay his welcome and find a prostitute to marry him for a residency permit. His antics in Japan were no different from his past behavior. He continued his blogposting and samefagging, trying to make himself relevant in a country that didn't want him. In fact, it was rumored that he personally made half of the posts in any given thread. But as he tried to navigate his way through Japan, his actions became more and more bizarre. He started to believe in his own delusions, claiming to be a descendant of Greek gods and that his cheap watches were actually ancient artifacts from his ancestors. It was clear to those around him that he was a lost soul, desperately trying to find a place where he could belong. But his efforts were in vain, as he continued to pollute Japan with his presence, unemployed and unwanted. And so, the Greek weeb remained a specter in Japan, a cautionary tale of what happens when one's dishonesty and delusions finally catch up to them. He may have left Germany, but his reputation followed him, and it seemed that no amount of lies and deceit could save him from himself.

With the typical personalization and aesthetic finishing modification the market seems to show you can get $1000-1500 or so, but if youre significantly modifying the function of the movement by adding more barrels and other components or adding modules to create new complications you can ask significantly more for that.

I'd say for a watch with an off the shelf sellita with a solid case back and no frills I probably wouldn't pay much more than $1000.

>Anons is it normal for me to not want scratches or dent on my watch?

The amount of concern you should have depends on the watch, and not just on price. Some watches wear scuffs better than others. Take, for instance, a Rolex Explorer. When those are well-worn, it looks good, like a well-worn pair of boots. Like you used the watch the way it was designed to be used.

By contrast, a watch like a Grand Seiko really only looks good when it's perfect, because its only function is to look sparkly. It looks like trash as soon as it gets a couple of scratches on the polished surfaces.

>Can someone give me the rundown of Longines as a brand ?
Very old name, formerly a maker of respected watches, particularly chronographs.
They weren't Patek level or anything, but they were definitely at Omega-level.
They suffered badly during the quartz crisis, almost went the way of so many other brands.
Swatch bought them and has been running them ever since.
They still make fine watches, but their quality is frustratingly capped since Swatch's market segmentation strategy cannot allow Longines to compete against Omega. For example, they make good chronos, but not the great thin chronos they used to.

Same. Tudor's main strength is its relationship to Rolex, which is strictly financial, because Tudor's QC just isn't there and its entire styling department starts and ends with the Black Bay.

Honestly no.

People who buy a Grand Seiko fall into two camps.
They quietly realize the overpaid for a so-so watch that was hyped by paid shills on social media and they sell the watch, taking a huge hit in the process.
- or -
They cannot accept that they've been rused, they double down and become the screechy cultist who is compelled to shriek at everyone about Sallaz polishing.

Grand Seiko is not the great value, hidden gem that it was a decade-plus ago. It's no longer a value at all. Its flaws were once acceptable because it was such a great watch that could be had so cheaply but now they're overpriced. Just look at the used market or the desperate discounts ADs offer to try and shift products that have been languishing on the shelves.

Of course. Hell, when I was a broke college student, I bought a G-Shock. It was the best watch I could afford at the time.
If anon calls himself a poorfag and wants to buy a watch that costs several thousand dollars which, importantly, does not have the inherent value retention of many Rolexes*, he's making a bad decision and should be advised against it, no matter how much he likes the dial texture.

If you're a poorfag and want to buy an old Air-King or Oyster Perpetual Date that's not as dumb a buy. Say you buy it for, 2500USD. You can always sell it to someone for about that. It ultimately doesn't cost anything but a few bucks in shipping to learn that you're not that interested in luxury watches.

Obviously I'm not stupid enough to buy it now. I'm the person that's been shitting up the thread asking about cheap as fuck watches.
I'm just talking from the perspective of "if I ever make it to the point that I can spend that much on a watch, that's the one I want". I imagine I'll never reach that point, but I can't help but wonder why anyone would shit on Grand Seikos when they're pretty universally considered to have amazing looks and finishes. There hasn't quite been any other brand that had so many models catch my eye
Yes, perhaps it doesn't have the value retention of Rolex, but if I get to that position I expect it to stay with me until I pass it on.

On a side note, my dad still has a somewhat old Tudor he tried to sell once to some less than reputable guy who offered him just a hundred for it, I'm interested to find out how much it's actually worth now when he digs it up and finds it again, because I'm curious if Tudor also holds their value similarly to Rolex.

>> No.18144615

>>18144609
>but I can't help but wonder why anyone would shit on Grand Seikos when they're pretty universally considered to have amazing looks and finishes
Because it's not universal. The brand has fans, definitely, and they are pretty over-represented online. Being a fan of japanese watches and being on the internet constantly seems to go hand in hand. When you get past the dial finishes, though, the rest of the watch is actually quite mediocre, especially for the price, and their bracelets are downright bad.
(And if you're about to mention zaratsu, just be reminded that Casio Oceanus also have zaratsu polishing and they get their cases finished by the exact same shop as Grand Seiko, but an Oceanus costs a couple hundred)

It depends on the Tudor. Most Tudors do not hold their value very well. A small number of them, like the Tudor Submariner, do very well, though.
