How can I tell if shit is clashing, blending in a bad way, or complimentary? Like, for example does the color of this shirt clash with my skin in a bad way? I'm really not sure.

i'd ditch the shirt and wear a black one instead
i feel like yellow is ok for accessories but not for clothes

Your hair isn't blonde so you'll never be able to yellowmax. Give it up. Yellow watch is fine though.

shit take, see picrel

>>18140178
those two yellows don't go together at all, the watch is fluo yellow and the shirt is old greenish yellow.
Two different tones of the same color only go well together if they are both cold or both warm variants. ie, a forest green wont go well with a brownish military green, but it will go well with lime green.

Fluorescent yellow goes well with either black or really dark navy.

I gave up thinking about color theory and just combine as I like, that said, the yellow of the watch crashes with the color of your shirt. That yellow is too solid to blend it, you need to give it contrast.

it's good that you haven't given up on color like most the faggot bottomfeeders who populate this board. I mostly wear light colors like your watch without many dark or neutral colors. I don't wear muted versions of non neutral colors but if I did, I would not wear them with a bright version of the same color. For yellow, I would typically pair it with pink, blue, and green. If you like muted shirts you could consider something like picrel. I'm not telling you what is right or wrong, its just my personal judgement. Also when I wear two shades of the same color they either have to be very close or very distinct. When they are slightly off it just looks terrible.

Most of the time when someone says colors are clashing they are full of shit desu

colorful clothes look bad where i live because it rains frequently and unexpectedly. bright colors make it look like you're covered in polka dots whenever it even sprinkles out and ruins your fit. dark colors and earthtones remain looking normal. i'm confident with color theory but i haven't dressed 'colorfully' since i lived in cali.

I get that this isn't always practical but it would look pretty cool with a lot of colorful fits

>> No.18140711

>>18140374
So then when it comes to pants to pair with a shade of yellow like the shirt you'd say muted pink, blue or green would work? Or is that just speaking about accessories?

>> No.18140724

>>18140711
I mean in general. Most advice on color theory should be pretty universally applicable. The only thing that makes accessories different from pants or shirts is that they take up less space so they have a different effect on the color balance. I'd say all of those colors should go together in pretty much any combination as long as they are in similar shades. For neutrals, I would prefer to pair them with cream or a nice medium brown that falls a little on the light side

>>18140178
Having a bright yellow watch is going to clash with a lot of stuff. You almost have to exclusively wear black/navy or dark earth tones. Alternately if the watch were black or a dark earth tone it would work better with the shirt you’re wearing.

so i get you live in california.. jealous of the weather but definitely not the air quality haha you can cut that la air with a butter knife! anyways there's this thing called unpredictable weather, they even have a term for when it rains randomly 'rain showers.' its a little different when you live in the rainiest place in the country that isn't that spot in hawaii they filmed gilligans island on.

also yeah sarcasm aside, there really aren't a lot of colorful options in the world of high end modern rain gear. only two brands (patagonia, black diamond) that made the pct gear survey ( https://www.halfwayanywhere.com/trails/pacific-crest-trail/pct-gear-guide-2023/#shells ) even offer colors that aren't gray scale, earth tone, or a shade of navy and even then the color choices are sparse and patagonia's are really muted. if you live somewhere with very high sustained rainfall like me where gore tex pro and other breathable membrane based systems won't cut it you don't really have any options at all.

so at that point you'd be telling me to spend money on a second, lower performing jacket that probably also costs more and is probably outsourced to a third world country (i buy my rain gear from 1 man american cottage industry brands not major companies sold in corporate stores who make their clothes in peru) just for the sake of having a colorful one in my wardrobe serving no actual reason in my life to exist. seems coonsoomerist and retarded especially when we're talking about jackets made of pfas forever chemicals that are a blight on the environment and honestly should not be legal to be sold for casual wear anyways.

sorry nigger the timmermade silpoly megazip is perfection. beauty in form always originates from function. especially when we're talking about technical garments who's sole reason for existing is to keep you alive in the elements.

Get a colour wheel. Colours opposite each other are complimentary, colours next to each other are also complimentary. With time it will become innate. Also start viewing art irl, go to museums and see how artists use their colours. Tone is more important than overt colour.

I lived in Washington half my life bitch! They wear rain jackets when it isn't raining all the time. If the sky is fucked up, you wear a rain jacket. Too bad you live somewhere too rainy for normal rain jackets most of the time, but I was responding to a post where you are talking about the effect of light rainfall on clothes.
>if you live somewhere with very high sustained rainfall like me where gore tex pro and other breathable membrane based systems won't cut it you don't really have any options at all.
I'm pretty sure goretex with a dwr coating can stand heavy rainfall
>so at that point you'd be telling me to spend money on a second, lower performing jacket
if you read my post carefully you will notice that I did not tell what to spend money on. a jacket that is more breathable but marginally less waterproof is not a lesser jacket. you can wear either jacket based on whether or not you think the rain will be horrendous enough to warrant the ugly clammy jacket.
>i buy my rain gear from 1 man american cottage industry brands not major companies sold in corporate stores who make their clothes in peru
as soon as I read this I stood up and clapped
>colorful jackets serve no practical purpose etc
the purpose is matching the rest of your wardrobe. if your pants and shirts are mint and pink and shit, you can't be wearing a dark monochromatic jacket its just fucking ugly. you are on the fashion board talking about how fashion doesn't matter. that's blatantly ridiculous
>seems coonsoomerist and retarded especially when we're talking about jackets made of pfas forever chemicals that are a blight on the environment and honestly should not be legal to be sold for casual wear anyways.
you probably shouldn't get a bunch of waterproof jackets in all your favorite colors but just one good waterproof jacket makes a difference. you can buy secondhand and use the jackets that are already polluting the earth with their existence and turn them into a decent outfit

it would be more fashionable if you wore actual trash bags. also, most of the time their purpose is to stop you from getting wet. with most lifestyles death is not a realistic concern.

lmao same i have the b zero fired up right now. you on that ball vape game yet?
what points did i miss? i think i nailed all of them:
- owning multiple pfas jackets is bad for the environment and makes you a bad person
- therefore my casual rain jacket must also double as legitimate technical rain gear
- no one who makes non membrane jackets makes them in colorful colors
- hardly anyone who makes membrane jackets that qualify as high end hiking gear make them in colorful colors & i am very much so an outdoors person so my choice in rain jacket will always be function over form
its not like i disagree with you. if one of the jackets i like came in a bright color i would buy it, if anything just for the sake of being able to be seen by s&r if i ever get injured or lost. i hope the technicolor 80s trend in hiking gear returns one day. i buy and own a lot of very colorful 70s hiking gear and clothing but used + rain shell is a combo that doesn't mix.

>> No.18143047

they degrade with time anon. a single pinhole in the membrane renders the jacket useless especially in the hood or shoulders. almost all vintage rain jackets which exist have pinholes in the shoulders because they were worn with backpacks at some point.
i bought a dead stock 1980s era REI shell jacket a while ago. never worn, with tags. beautiful bright purple color. applied fresh DWR to it. shoulders started wetting out within about 20 wears. beautiful jacket, completely useless.
