Whether an item is legit pretty much always comes down to whether the seller is legit. In the post I made above, the seller (top right) has a full, genuine store name and thousands of feedback/reviews left, almost all positive. The item is priced at a good discount but not *too under* what you'd expect. They seem to sell other similar items, or things from vintage shops/consignment luxury goods/etc.

An example of a scam is this post. There are thousands of fake Cartiers on ebay, almost all of them are using pics straight from the Cartier site (red flag, a genuine seller generally takes their own pics, but not always like my above post), their name is some shit combo of letters and has very little feedback/sales. Even ones with a couple hundred feedback, check more deeply and you'll find they're feedback as *buyers*, not as a seller, and they've sold little to nothing before this listing. They might promise free returns but their plan is to just delete the account the moment someone buys, after shipping them a cheap knockoff.

Watch out for the seller and you'll find some deals, hidden among the scams

Can you see the serial number in the pictures provided by the seller?
Does the seller have the receipt from the original purchase?

If they are being sold as brand new for half off 99% chance they are fake.
If they are being sold as used without a receipt 95% chance they are fake.

Since you have such a high risk of buying fakes you might as well buy them from China yourself.

I've bought a lot of great clothing on ebay and in my experience the best stuff comes from one of these:
>Rich old boomers clearing out their closet, selling nice clothing they wore twice ever for a huge discount
>Professional 2nd hand boutiques and consignment stores, running off ebay (these tend to price the stuff higher but still at a good discount and with very accurate measurements/pictures)
>Old stock/model runway outfits/photoshoot clothing. Several big, very reputable stores on ebay sell just post-modelling clothes, so it's all size 40 US / 50 EU, it's all described as like-new, worn once, or it's stock that got slightly damaged in a shoot/on a mannequinn and is being sold off. These can be great bargins if you happen to have a model-shaped body.

>>18139504
Has some great points but don't trust the pics. Most scammers use pics from the actual luxury brand's own website, showing high res details and the serial. It looks real because it is, in the pics. What you recieve in the post from these sellers is the fake version and will not perfectly match the stock images, so don't rely on the pics to guess if it's genuine.

Two problems with this.
First- where you do you store them? The options are to shove them on top of your head or in your pocket (which WILL quickly make the lenses filthy and risk scratching them no matter how clean you think your hair or pocket is), or to put them away in a nice case which is tedious to do regularly and means you have to carry the case.
Second- I wear prescription lenses. If I take them off, I have to either carry and put on a non-shaded pair (and case) and swap whenever I enter or leave, or else accept that anything more than half a metre away will be blurry as shit.

If I'm out all day or doing something important: Sure, I'll think about this and prepare accordingly.
If I'm just running to a local store for something: No fuck you, I'm keeping them on.

depends what you mean by "new"
i own both the classic wayfarers and the new wayfarers
classic is made of acetate, handmade in italy, great quality in my opinion and looks great. i love the pantoscopic tilt and think it makes them look really cool on the face. they have really nice 7 barrel hinges. these say "handmade in italy"
the new wayfarers were ray bans answer in the mid 2000s to the thin wide wraparound frames that were popular during that time (and thank god went out of style again) when the classic wayfarer shape was falling out of style. they are smaller, rounder, have no tilt. my pair is 12 years old and was made in italy, i believe pairs today are chinese made. not positive. they are NOT made of acetate, they are made of nylon. they also have luxottica's basic cheap ass 3 barrel hinges. these say "made in italy"
the wayfarer ease is just the classic wayfarer but without the tilt. everything else is the same except they are also NOT made of acetate, they are made of propionate. they still have 7 barrel hinges, still "handmade in italy" but propionate and no tilt

if you're gonna get a pair of wayfarers get the classics, they're still really good. people parrot all the time shit they hear about "muh luxottica" and "muh quality" which is not entirely untrue. but the classic wayfarers are still very good

Zenni is absolute dogshit. Not even worth wasting your time
Of the DTC brands I've tried I found Warby Parker to be the best. My old beater pair has a 7 barrel hinge, that's pretty crazy to see on a cheap pair like that
EyeBuyDirect is okay, a lot of their frames have no core wire in the temples which is a sign of cheapness. My wife's pair snapped pretty easily
Zenni has been by far the worst. Just junk, crooked frames, cheap everything. Unless you're one step up from homelessness, I'd avoid Zenni
