Tested a few frags today.

>Serge Lutens Chergui
Very good stuff. Slightly reminiscent of LADDM, but sweeter, less on the dry side. Still a very dry and spicy scent though, with some amber and woods. Sublimated by the heat, don't trust fragrantica faggots who say this is for "colder days", it's not. 7.5/10

>Serge Lutens Santal Majuscule
Clean, creamy woody scent, quite masculine, very versatile imo. Smells elegant and comforting. It seems to sit closer to the skin than Chergui. I compared it with Original Santal later and it didn't smell as "luxurious" as this if it makes sense. 7/10

>Diptyque Tam Dao
In the beginning this was a very natural "watery" sandalwood with a hint of greenery, now as it's drying down it smells kind of like pepper to me. Not unpleasant, but surprising, definitely not the luxurious sandalwood SM is. It's become very subdued as well, I think the performance is not good on this one. 5/10

>Stéphane Humbert Lucas Solei de Jeddah Mango Kiss
I didn't expect much out of this house but this is really fucking good. God of Fire was less subtle, too fruity, but Jeddah somehow takes mango and gives it this kind of dry vibe, while remaining very natural with some spices and woods here and there, this smells luxurious and classy despite being marketed as an exotic fruity scent. 8/10

>Matières Premières Falcon Leather
Pure leather; not subdued and mass-pleasing like Ombre Leather, much more agressive, smoky, slightly animalic. Definitely wearable though, I like this one, it's extremely masculine and deep, dense. If you're looking for photorealistic leather, this is it, definitely. 7/10

>Yves Saint Laurent Tuxedo
I get the hype with this one, it's very pleasant, extremely versatile, the ambergris, patchouli and pepper are great, this would fit all occasions and has a lot of class. Too expensive though. 8/10

Also tried stuff from Malle, PDM, BDK, Caron, Killian, Creed and Houbigant, but not on the skin, so I only got the drydown from the caps basically.

Zoologist order just arrived, very pleased.

The house gets shit on here a bit but honestly they’re like most other niche houses where they have both good and bad frags. I’ve called them Canadian ELDO a couple times in the past - some interesting experimental frags, a little bit better branding, a bit more expensive.

Picked up a full bottle of Penguin and a travel spray of T-Rex and Rabbit. Already own the full sample set so I requested a travel spray of Penguin which they were kind enough to oblige.

They’re a bit middling as far as pricing goes, but I kind of see why now as they really key up the packaging, whether you consider that a good thing or not. As you can see in the pic each travel spray has its own little faux leather box with a foam/felt liner for it to sit in. The full bottle is a limited edition (although same price) so it’s intended to be a little more elaborate, but every side of the box (inside and out) is foiled.

The bottle itself has a lot of heft to it because there’s a solid half-inch of glass on the base, which I’m not sure I love, but don’t hate. The atomizer is great, good quality, one where when you spray it takes a half second or so to finish dispensing even after you’ve fully pressed. Sauvage Elixir has the same type, which I like for some reason. The travel sprays are nice, I prefer long and thin over short and fat because they fit better in pockets. My only complaint is they’re non-refillable, but I knew this when I purchased.

Overall I’d recommend them as worth trying. If you’re just looking to get into some niche fragrances there are cheaper options, but if don’t mind spending a little or just enjoy sniffing unique frags, definitely check them out.

It’s great! Penguin opens as a cool, fresh, almost floral scent. Very clean, almost soapy even. It’s linear for about half an hour then the top notes start fading and the leather starts to take the spotlight. They describe it as suede, but it’s much more of a leathery scent to me. I’ve had a few people around me describe it as very faintly smoky. There’s always this kind of background coolness to it though, kind of chilly. I don’t get the moss, but it may just be blended really well with the leather. Regardless, I really like it.

Rabbit is a sweet gourmand, so naturally /frag/ will hate it, but it’s very much a sweet baked goods scent. I get cinnamon and that overall “just walked into a bakery” scent. Very, very similar to Pineward’s Gingerbread, for those who have smelled it. Pretty linear, but I haven’t tested it as extensively as Penguin though, and it was always with 2-3 other frags on other areas of skin.

T-Rex is surprisingly more wearable than people always allude to on here. Easily more wearable than Tonnerre or Hyde. Opens as an airy, peppery scent, but oddly a touch cold, almost like menthol. It warms up quite a bit by 30~ mins with a smoky woody scent, resinous, and holds it through the first hour or so. By 2 hours though you can catch some of the florals peeking through from underneath the smoke, and at 3H you still get wisps of smoke but it leans more into the leather and vanilla base.

every single release in the Guilty pour homme line is a dissappointment

EdT is so weak there's barely any reason to wear it
EdP is the best of the line, but it's just a basic designer rose scent. If you want pepper Guerlain L'homme ideal intense is better. If you want rose Moschino Toy Boy is better.
Parfum is a weaker muddy EdP
Black is actually interesting, but has a weird performance issue considering the notes
Absolute is actually a leather powerhouse, but has absolute-ly nothing to do with the rest of the line.
Elixir is a poor man's, synthetic, Amouage Reflection Man. The huge upside is that you don't have to pay Amouage prices, but you don't get the crystal clarity of Reflection. Instead you get a hazy synthetic version for a third (half?) of the price.
