The absolute state of the Swiss watchmaking industry-
>entire claim to relevance comes from producing technology that’s been obsolete for half a century and charging people out their ears for it because ‘muh heritage’ (ignore that 90% of them are owned by the same 2~3 multinationals)
>even then still outdone by Japs at producing said obsolete technology (GS is accurate to +/- 1 second per day)
When will Swisstrannies finally rope?

PREFACE: This poem, is a dream of a universe. A universe where only Jaeger-Lecoutre, Rolex, Patek, Vacheron Constantin, Breguet, and IWC exist. A holy realm, consisting only of the SACRED SIX.

THE SACRED SIX is a communion of the finest, best watches for all humankind. No lesser beings can acquire, or even dream of obtaining such watches. Watches like Seiko, Casio, Timex, and Orient are a completely foreign concept to THE SACRED SIX, and are heretical watches. The SACRED SIX will purge such disgusting heretical watches from the universe, and bring about a better time.

Walk with me, let's try to imagine a better world, a better life, with the SACRED SIX.

Begin Poetry:

In the realm where time is king, behold the Sacred Six,

Masters of horology, their craftsmanship we fix.

Jaeger Lecoutre, with precision, ticks each fleeting hour,

In its intricate dance, a testament to power.

Rolex, a legend, on adventurous wrists it gleams,

Through tempests and triumphs, it fulfills dreams.

Patek Philippe, a tale of heritage and grace,

A legacy of elegance, in every watch face.

Vacheron Constantin, whispers of refined taste,

Centuries of excellence, never to be displaced.

Breguet, with innovation, its legacy unfurls,

In each tick, echoes the genius of its pearls.

IWC, with engineering prowess, takes its stand,

Crafting timepieces that echo across the land.

The Sacred Six, guardians of time's fleeting flight,

In each intricate tick, they weave pure delight.

In their hands, time becomes a cherished art,

Boundless tales woven in each beating heart.

The Sacred Six, immortal in their horologic dance,

A symphony of time, in eternal romance.

>What is a good amount of watches to have? I personally think 3 is probably enough to switch out between different outfits.

Three is usually what a lot of people settle on in terms of an ideal number:
- a really casual watch like a big diver on a rubber strap
- a dressy watch, thin and gold on a gator strap
- something in between on a bracelet for daily wear

>> No.18105416

nato straps aren't bad, it's just that there are a lot of people who put straps that don't look good or don't pair well with the watch.
the good thing with changing straps from time to time is that it gives the watch a fresh look, so there's no need to buy another watch in search of variety.

It looks horrible. Keep in mind the history of the Casioak:
>"To be honest, I'm relieved the watch is selling well," he says. "Our approach for the GA-2100 was completely different from the conventional G-Shock models, and initially, we were met with a strong resistance internally, and some still say 'I don't know why it became such a big hit' to this day. I think the watch got the attention for the right reasons, but I do confess the budgeting for this project wasn't the easiest thing ever, and I must thank Amikura for delivering the solid design."
One guy wanted it, and the rest of the company hated it and thought it would fail. But it became one of their best sellers.
Casio wouldn't know a good design if it hit them in the head. They got lucky with the GA2100.

I altered the positions purposefully and measurably; some days it would be upright (crown up), some days dial up, all through the positions. It was always wound at the 24hour mark, so essentially it was 'full wind' for the entirety of the year.

I wasn't doing the thing I do with my other mechanicals where dial up will go faster, crown up slower, crown down slowest; it was just 'what day are we' and then check the rubric and follow through. I was genuinely curious, given that it performed flawlessly for a week when I got it back from servicing, so I wanted to see how to get it to go wrong. I already knew that past 24 hours power reserve it starts to get slightly slow, and given that deck clocks are always at least within the 24 hours, I thought I should run mine like that too.

Amazing pocket watch. You know the only downside? It won't be like this forever. Eventually it'll start running slightly slower, and positional variances will increase, and then it won't be as accurate. But for that year...it was a champ.

I'm convinced that with an excellent movement and an excellent watchmaker, almost any mechanical watch should be able to run very close to 0. Most people don't have a trusty watchmaker at hand, nor do most people want to void the warranty by having someone other than the brand open it up. This Zenith ran perfect, but was serviced by Zenith with no one else touching it. Bless those people in Schweiz....

It's a shame Seiko puts some much text on the dial nowadays. Older Seikos have much cleaner dials. Those '5', presage and prospec logos were a huge mistake.

>It won't be like this forever. Eventually it'll start running slightly slower, and positional variances will increase, and then it won't be as accurate.
An unavoidable reality with mechanical watches. Given it was already in a used and slightly worn condition the watchmaker who regulated it was very skilled in his craft.

I think so, but also the movement was designed to be the best ever constructed in its class. To this day, the 5011k is respected for its capabilities, and is considered to be the best pocket watch movement for performance designed and constructed prior to the quartz crisis. I wanted one for the same reason I wanted the 0100; get the most accurate one in terms of fundamental design ever made. Sure, there will always be individual watches and pocket watches that will out-perform them in a 1:1 test (i.e. over a 5-years span, for instance), but to have a mass manufactured movement designed for this kind of thing is, in my mind, a beautiful element to horology.

I almost went down the road of observatory chronometers, but ultimately they are very rare and very costly if you want ones in great condition. Besides, I normally wear chronographs, so having them in wristwatch form is somewhat useless in my existence. But they're still cool.

What are you wearing today, Fren?

>>18105715
Grand Seiko 9f is cool, but I've never owned one. I only have one HAQ, and the purpose was to get the very best of the time. Spring drive is also cool; the smoothness of the second-hand is so smooth. Given that GS designs don't appeal to me en masse, I think of it as a best-case scenario if one finds them appealing. GS dials and finishing are off-the-chart for watches of their pricepoint however; occasionally, you'll walk into a boutique selling GS alongside Breitling, for instance, and the difference is stark.

>>18105717
Yes. No. I wear it with my 3-piece suits, so it's not something I just pull out at the movie theater or carnival. When I'm dressed that way, I'm surrounded by other people who dress the same, and as I mentioned in another previous post, one of my colleagues who sits next to me now sports a Patek minute-repeater pocket watch. So, we have fun.

Nothing prevents scratches. The coatings can turn big scratches into small scratches. The simple fact is that you have to accept that if you have a titanium watch, you have a watch made of a light, soft material.

If you want something hard and scratch resistant, you have to choose ceramic, but that will chip and shatter if you bump it.

I haven't had any yet, though I am not known for scratching my watches. A YouTuber (the bald guy) did a test on these and found that it does scratch, at a far lower hardness than he had hoped. The spots you see are dust, not indents; it's tough to keep any of my watches super-clean, and the cameras pick up everything. On almost all of my pics, you'll see dust of some kind...such is life. It's worse in the summer when the windows are open all the time.

No, only if you drop it onto a hard surface at the wrong angle. Daily wear, and the watch will continue to look brand new if it's modern ceramic (i.e. Grey Side of the Moon Speedmaster, for instance).
