I was asked to attend a job interview as a technical consultant to the hiring manager. The candidate wore a t shirt that was even too small, weird rings and braceless and also a shiny big watch. He was talking big talk, referring to himself as an "entrepteneur" and his client portfolio includes rolex.

Wonder if the guy was on something because the flow of meaningless words could barely be stopped. Implied he knew everything and had no technical weaknesses

I then derailed his bullshit train with a couple of technical questions. His composure instantly changed (had been ignoring me so far during his bullshit presentation). Got really defensive even started self soothing actions like holding his forearm.

I am a really opposite of people person (i am the guy with the shit armani watch) so I didnt even try to make thing less awkward than they could be.

Man what a train wreck. I didnt even enjoy wrecking his shit. Could have done a lot worse if I wanted to.

I found the watch really triggering and the weird clothes and black plastic gaudi rings and too small shirt plus bullshit presentation of arrogance and ignorance.

General advice here in case you are reading this: try being honest and not arrogant. Dont insult the intelligence of the people across the table.

No he was wearing something bloated and overstated. Chronometer type of watch. Something shit. But hey my watch is shit too. But I found the combination of the entire scene triggering. Also I was on watch thread until 4 am so I was really low on bullshit tolerance.

Hiring manager was really glad I was there to derail this smoke and mirrors shit show. I could tell that he felt also something was not right but lacked the technical knowledge to be sure. I went reallg easy on him actually because I didnt want to make a scene but still I could tell that it was a lot for this queerbag to deal with.

Fwiw, I wear pocket watches regularly when I'm in 3-piece suits. I don't wear the protective chains, and though the pocket watches may end up on a desk as I'm working, they're not something that I bring out in company unless there is a true reason. Anyway, it is possible to wear them regularly and not be self-conscious, but I think the rest of the fashion ensemble will dictate applicability. I've carried the Waltham in my Levi's 'watch' pocket, but that experiment lasted about a day or so - I didn't like it. So, I wear them with the 3-piece suits only, and it works well with the company I keep. One of my colleagues carries a Patek minute repeater pocket watch...a lovely little thing, but he claimed that I 'inspired' him to feel comfortable carrying a pocket watch. He always wanted to, so he finally made the plunge after he saw me carry the Zenith. Mine still keeps better time.

>>18103718
Disagree; he simply sold them too late or too early.

>>18103883
I like him, because he's honest with what he does. I think he does the best he can with what he has, and in addition he takes significant risks. I admire that in people, as I am naturally averse to risk and have to kick myself to do so. His information on scents is particularly useful if you're a beginner.

>>18103940
I can't think of anything 'stylish fancy' that is sub-1500 that your father will respect. He'll appreciate the effort and love behind the gift, no matter what..but still. You have to go around 25-3500 in order to get something that he would respect. If he likes vintage Omega automatics, then get him a Constellation pie-pan in good condition. You could always try to find him a vintage polerouter. The problem is that no matter what you do with vintage, you have to have it serviced before delivering the watch to your father...it should at least be wearable and working. Good luck; it's a beautiful thought for your father, regardless.

He started making some alright informative videos in which you could see his preferences sneak through, like when he's recommend Ball watches because he liked the regional connection he has with the brand's history.
Now that he has professionalized a lot and runs a store, his channel is a bit of a content farm where the recommendations are not going to be as personnal from him since 1 he doesn't write everything himself anymore 2 he recommends the watches he sells 3 he sells the watches he recommend.
It's pretty clear though that all this lists and reviews and such are here to keep the ball rolling so he can produce factory tour videos or chats with big collectors. That's the stuff he really seems involved in compared to his fifth yearly "top 10 steel sports watches for every budget" video.
I remember him actually saying he'd like to talk about small brands and lesser known models more but these don't get enough views.
tl;dr : he went from a rando who made videos about watches he likes to a watch salesman
