Just smelling other people in general, the occasional going with a chick to a random parfume store and trying random shit and the cheap ones that people have gifted me. Apart for women parfumes which are literal nuclear shit, parfumes for men smell just like cheap cologne, mid priced are the fuccboi ones and the expensive ones are like the cheap ones but smell slightly better. As someone who lived in NYC for ten years, I can tell you that Nicolai does a masterful job of capturing the scent of Manhattan below 59th street in the summertime. It is abrasive, off-putting, and filled with things that should not go together. It is the scent public masturbation. As the fragrance develops, I am given the sensation that around any corner, I might encounter a homeless person defecating into his own shoe. And it comes with the added bonus that if you wear it on the subway, you will likely have the whole car to yourself. Really artistic composition. My only complaint is that calling it "New York Intense" is much too vague, as this composition really should have been been named for the place of which it is most evocative, "Port Authority"

I've never attempted this, but the major problem I see is that the people who "make" the fragrances in store aren't actual perfumers, they're just regular joe sales reps trained to put it all together in the way that a line cook is trained to prepare your meal. Anyone can learn to pour raw materials into a bottle in specific quantities, but asking them them alter the fragrance would be a much taller order. It's not as simple as saying, "hey, can you make my Rose 31 a little bit rosier?" Even small adjustments to the formula can drastically alter the finished product.

But I don't know, I'm not really a Le Labo guy. Maybe they have protocols for this sort of thing.

If you are in the market for a new fragrance, this is my advice...
>Go to a place that sells fragrances. Places like Macy's, Sephora, Nordstrom, Saks 5th Avenue, and Bloomingdales are all options that can be found in most American towns
>Go to the fragrance counter and ask to smell their fragrances

How did this make a comeback? The only thing I can guess is that this current crop of teens and twenty-somethings have never had a living relative that wore this shit, so they have no scent memory attached to it and so suddenly it smells modern to them? It came out in 1965, and back then it was aimed at the 30+ crowd, so I guess most of the people who wore it as a signature are now dead. But still, if you're a zoomer this would literally smell like your grandfather. Even if he's dead now, you should have some memory of it. I don't know, it's all very strange.

18086777

Hey guys, I just got a text from my employers and they said we're fighting too much about Guerlain and not enough about Creed today. Let's get the ball rolling with a question: Why the fuck does nobody talk about how Creed completely changed the note breakdown of Aventus? I thought Fragrantica was just being cheeky by switching the notes to be more in line with Jean-Christophe Herault's breakdown as it was outlined in The Ghost Perfumer, but the Creed website lists it the same way now.

That seems incredibly strange to me and I don't know what the brand's play here is from a strategic standpoint. First, note breakdowns aren't fucking "real". Everyone knows that if you list your notes as "Bergamot, Pineapple, Green Apple, Blackcurrant, Rose, Patchouli, Vanilla, Ambergris and Oakmoss and Birch", it doesn't mean they sat there with a pineapple and everything else and squeezed it into the bottle. Those are just the scent accords the perfumer was aiming for, and you choose which notes to list based on whatever picture you wish to paint in the consumer's mind. Of all the myriad lies Olivier Creed has told his customers of the years, leaving lemon out of the Aventus breakdown isn't actually one of them.

So why change it? What do they stand to gain? I can see them switching ambergris to ambroxan because ambergris is a big expensive and rare meme, and telling your customers you use real ambergris instead of ambroxan can be seen as misleading, but Creed is not the only fragrance house that does this. PdM's ambergris is almost certainly ambroxan. The ambergris in Invictus sure as shit isn't ambergris. It's another case of bending the truth to paint a picture. I kind of believe Guerlain when they specifically go out of their way to advertise it that way, but the only one I can think of where they actually do that is Ambre Eternal. If I saw it printed on L'Homme Ideal or something, I'd just assume it was ambroxan

>> No.18086782

>> No.18086791

>>18086777
One thing they did say in Ghost Perfumer is that Creed would take Bourdon et als formulas and swap out the ingredients for more expensive ones. He kept the overall structure the same, but would use pricier (I don't even want to say higher quality ingredients, because that's not really how it works and denotes a poor understanding of the chemistry behind building a fragrance) ingredients. When he approached Herault to commission what would become Aventus, he had a specific musk which he'd acquired from a larger firm which only Creed could use, and asked Herault to design a fragrance around it. He agreed to do it as long as he was allowed to also design it around his favorite ingredient, which was ambroxan. It is possible that Creed took the original formula and swapped it out for Ambergris which, given the hit-or-miss nature of that substance, could account part of the batch variation issue. It's hard to get Ambergris of a specific quality year after year for the exact same price. Perhaps Blackrock swapped out the formula for something that would be more stable and consistent.

But to me it seems more likely that it's just damage control. That book hurt the brand's reputation quite a lot, and so now they are posturing in a way that sounds a bit more honest to anyone who is in the know. For the general consumer it's not going to make a difference what the note breakdown is because they aren't gonna fucking read it. But it MAY look like a good faith gesture to someone who read the book and was a former Creed fan

>> No.18086792

>>18086791
Nothing they do makes any sense, even post-acquisition. You would think that in a world where both Creed was no longer owned by the Creed family, and everyone now knows they use ghost perfumers, the brand would seek to distance itself from the whole "handed down from father to son" meme as much as possible by listing the real perfumers in new releases, but they still don't.

It's on the Creed site as well as fragrantica. If you want the old note breakdown you can look at the CDNI parfum breakdown, which I believe is identical. If not, it will be in any of the older fragbro reviews. Redolessence, Gent Scents or Brooklyn Fragrance Lover (God rest his soul) usually gave the whole breakdown in their reviews

No, Sedley is not tryhard or expensive enough, at least as far as Marlys go, to compensate for shortness. If you're under 5'10, you need to go with Layton Exclusif. It's got all the loud and obnoxious "PICK ME!" energy of the original, but it's also like a hundred dollars more and has the word "exclusif" in the title so people will know you're better than other people. Even other people who overspend on perfume to make themselves feel better than other people.

Why do wmaf couples get super insecure when they see us?
Especially the asian females most in the time, you can see in her facial expression how her boifriend feels.
Anyvody noticed that too? Always kinda annoying when certain types of people can't function as productive member of society anymore because they supremacy feel get attacked and they get emotional, lol.

Copout? kek it is just what it smell like

the smell is that of a very musty elderly woman wearing floral perfumes, and her moomoo sweat mixes in with the lavender. It is the smell of menopausal grief and a devoted life
