>Imagine the 222 as slim, simple, in steel and precious metals, few, if any complications; alongside the Overseas which can now be big, made of ceramic, carbon fiber and gold with a rubber strap and a double tourbillon.

I think this is the way that VC should go and the timing works out perfectly.

Next year is the 30th anniversary of the Overseas, they can introduce the fourth gen as a big chrono on a rubber strap or a 1000m diver.
The year after that is the 50th anniversary of the 222 and they can re-introduce the steel 222.

It would make for a pretty good mono-brand collection:
Something from the Traditionelle or Patrimony line for formal occasions
The 222 for daily wear
A big Overseas when you're attending an F1 race or something

INTEGRATED BRACELET SPORTS WATCHES ARE THE SLIM JEANS OF WATCHES.
In a couple of years you will feel embarrassed for buying one (or even considering it) to the point of denying you ever did.
>inb4 "my watch will never be outdated!"
There are only two watches that will survive the inevitable fall into disgrace of integrated bracelet sports watches. I don't even need to name them, you know exactly which one I'm talking about.
>inb4 "I don't care about trends! I love my watch and I'll keep wearing it"
You bought an integrated bracelet sports watch in the first place BECAUSE you've been brainwashed by marketing. And because you're in complete denial about this, you'll sell it at the worst possible moment leading you to lose money.
>inb4 "integrated bracelet sports watches are the best because"
They're fucking awful and you know it. The only reason they exist is to sell you some proprietary straps. They're the Apple of watches.
>inb4 "y-you're just poor and jealous!"
Me not falling for the integrated bracelet sports watch meme is proof I'm smarter and better with money than you.

Now cope and seethe, you fucking NPC.

Even the original Calatrava from 1932 used an outsourced Lecoultre movement.

Yes, I sometimes wear a watch to sleep; mainly to time how long I've slept, but sometimes it's for sheer emotional gratification. I love charging up the lume and seeing it in the dark before I fall asleep. The original tritium lume on the 105-012 still works, but for only a minute or so...still, it's nice to see proper lume proportions on a Speedmaster for a change. You can't tell from the pic (it was activated with uv), but the old style tear-drop shaped chronograph second hand 'fills in' the gap between the long hour marker plots and the end tip of the running hour hand. That's one of the design proportions that Omega got wrong (in my view, ON PURPOSE) with the Ed White reissue (the teardrop seconds hand lume flag is too high). Watching it cross the hour hand and fill the gap is simply based. Modern watch design really sucks by comparison sometimes...

Do you ever wear yours to sleep?

NEVAH!!!!

No, I'll never modify the 105-012...it's as original as it can be while still running (i.e. all the outer aesthetics are original, and only a few components of the movement have been replaced). Modifying the tritium would severely impact the value of the watch (i.e. around -5k in value at least once you do a re-dial, around -10k considering the condition of my dial), so forget that idea.

For me, the rule is that with vintage watches, they stay original. For anything past super-luminova, they can be serviced by the company with replacement parts for anything requiring it (including dials, hands, etc.).

That's the challenge of owning vintage. Even the Grail I have is all original...fucking pain in the ass to get one in that condition where the hands and lume plots haven't been 'moistened' beyond shit-brown colour...

Well it's not actually 12k. Grand Seiko ADs will always give you anywhere from 20-30% off MSRP right off the bat. There are no GS's with waiting lists such that the AD can play hardball.

Second that one.
I bought one, loved it for about a month, and flipped it. I got bored of it almost immediately. Extremely overrated.

I know the history of the watch, and I'll never sell it. It's too special. You hear from people about how the history of a watch 'makes it special'. In this case, because I knew the man, it is.

They're both rectangular but I don't think the Tank and the Reverso actually have that much overlap.

The Tank is a pure dress watch. Gold, thin and elegant. (I'm just talking about the Tank Louis Cartier, here, the reference Tank.)
The Reverso, especially in its reference form (steel, monoface, classique) is much more casual and sporty, especially on the chunky cordovan straps they come with now.

I think a man could happily have both and not feel that his collection is redundant.
