I actually considered the one you posted a while ago, but then I realized it's 12mm thick. That's at least 3mm too thick for a manual wind movement with no water resistance. Overall their watches are too big, fat and bloated. The bracelets are the worst you can find in that price point too.

Also I really dislike their design language, especially the angular cases and the fat hands and indices. It lacks "finesse". One thing I simply can't wrap my head around is that idea of mixing textured almost organic dials, with these angular robotic-like cases. Pic related just looks weird to me, this kind of dial belongs on a rounder, organic case shape.

Also I just don't care for spring drive. Sounds like a pain the ass to have this kind of movement serviced.

im very close to pulling the trigger on hydroconquest as my first 4 digit watch as my savings hit 55k last month

I'll get an Oyster Perpetual when they hit 125k
I know the basics but before I commit to hydroconquest spiritually, what are some other, similar, and dont get mad but well known brands that make similar watches around 2k mark?

I guess, but I then will have to sell my watches to "upgrade" my collection, which doesnt sit right with me as I feel like they are pieces to treasure and not trade. maybe my stance will change once I get into 10k+ watches, so for example selling my OP for a 12k watch would make sense, but I know myself and can already see myself not going through with this lol.

I was thinking, I had this thing with consoles too, never was able to sell my PSP, but traded my consoles up all the time for new ones without any issues. I also still have my God of War 2 and Fallout New Vegas copies too. I just get attached to some stuff that I deeply enjoy, lol.

There are people that have not had them serviced for 10 years or more. That goes for the hi-beat too. They charge you the same for service whether its been 3-5 or 10+ and they are actually having to replace some components instead of doing a bit of basic maintenance. Unless youre really noticing some issue with it I would just wait, dont see the point in wasting the money.

I know it's maybe gimmicky but the longer i look at them the more i like the fluid movement. Yes its not as mechanically impressive but it is just downright cool. There are some cheaper watches that get close but unless im mistaken there really arent any watches on the market that are as perfectly fluid in the movement of their second hand. I have yet to get one but i'm incredibly torn. Ill probably end up getting a nicer hi-beat and then a more plane spring drive because the silver birch on the hi-beat is prettier than the pure white of the spring drive

When I first got my spring drive (a first gen snowflake), I thought it was the coolest thing, but eventually I realized it was just as soulless as any quartz watch. I got bored with it. It was just a gimmick. The only thing left was showing it to other people.

but its very clearly not just any quartz watch or theyre would be more watches with the amazing fluid motion. It was first conceived in '77 and wasnt until '97 they were actually able to get it to work. It is a unique piece, just because its got quartz in it does not at all mean its just any quartz watch. I do get your reasonings but i have a feeling id never get tired of that smoothness, it feel like it more accurately represents how time flows compared to just smaller ticks.

Got this Titanium Seiko last week after seeing some pictures online and am very happy with it. My first Seiko as I'm not much of a collector but have spent the past couple weeks looking for a beater I would like to daily. Love the dial, the green and gold really works for me. It took the place of the Citizen Eco-Drive that I was wearing for a bit before that.

This shade in particular is my favorite color so that helped seal it for me. It checked every box I was looking for. Light as a feather, sapphire crystal, quartz so I can worry less about banging it about when I'm working. Keeps great time too from what I can tell so far. Would highly recommend.
