I don't understand why people like chronographs. It is the Larp watch par excellence. No one is going to use a chronograph these days and the subdials seem overloaded on the dial. Are you a bot or something? Again, the problem has nothing to do with the movement. The problem is Seiko expects you to pay $1000 on a watch before they'll give you sapphire. You can buy Chinese shitter automatics for $100 that still manage to put sapphire on their shit and most of the time they're using literally the same seiko movements. There's literally no excuse for not putting sapphire on watches in every price range. Just pay the extra few cents per unit. And that's not even getting into the still shitty bracelet clasp, which again even cheap microbrands are putting proper milled clasps with toolless microadjustment on watches around this price range. It's actually simple. I can activate, stop, and reset the chronograph sightless. It takes fewer actions than activating a stopwatch on a phone. If designed well, then it's extremely legible even under tough circumstances. I use two at work, and now they are indispensable. If you don't need a stopwatch for anything, then it's like having a date on a watch when you don't need one; a cool complication, but nothing more.

I am definitely a fan of the aesthetics of a chronograph; I love lots of subdials, and I love the interactivity that a chronograph provides. A 3-hander just tells the time...and that's about it. Boring.

I think it looks nice but DJ isn't something you need to jump on if they don't have a jubilee bezel now they will in a few months. Unfortunately the jubilee will bring the price well above 10k and as someone who has a smooth bezel I honestly prefer the smooth.

Straps are comfortable but bracelets are so nice in how they don't give a fuck about what you're doing. You can do yard work, wash dishes, whatever, and they look good and you aren't going to hurt anything. With straps you have a choice of leather, which looks good but water can fuck them up, or rubber or nylon which are functional and fine in water but look like shit.

>Why would you ever send your watch to Rolex in the first place?
Because some watchmakers will refuse to service it since they cannot ever get any spare parts. Rolex will not send any to anyone.
If you go to an independent watchmaker who doesn't mind and doesn't have to mind with repair accreditations, they sure, a lot of them will do it and if necessary use generic parts (you really don't need a Rolex mainspring when you can get mainsprings by size anyway) but if certain things are broken then there might not be much they could do unless they have a stock of dead movements to cannibalize.
Also, don't underestimate how dumb owners are when it comes to this, thinking that you MUST go specifically to the brand or even the store you bought your watch from to have anything done on it.
>oiy vey we don't have the bezel insert
The worst part is that they will not return original parts because "muh black market, muh fakes".
All the Swatch Group brands will return any part that was replaced when a watch is serviced (aside from electronics because something something health and safety regulations what if your retarded kid tries to eat an integrated circuit or whatever) because you own them still. Rolex not only doesn't do that but they don't let you know what they will change and won't let you opt out either.
All of this so they don't have to admit that decades later, they still can't make a red bezel.

>Switched out with what? Aftermarket chinkshit?

Either that, or a used part from a different watch.
A movement part like a bridge is unlikely to be swapped out, but parts that were (and still are) common will be.

Back when Rolex let anyone work on their watches, companies would come up with crystals, crowns, hands, bracelet parts, and other stuff that fit a Rolex but was not made by them. Like, the crown didn't have the Rolex Coronet on it so it's not illegal, but it still fit perfectly. If you have an old Datejust or something, finding aftermarket parts that fit it is very easy. Many used versions even have some of those parts.

A reputable watchmaker would ask,
>the crystal needs to be replaced, I can replace it with a geniuine Rolex part for 100 bucks, or I can use an aftermarket part for 20 bucks. The quality is the same, one just comes from Rolex.

That's even assuming that you could trust your watchmaker to not pocket the difference and swap it with the cheap one anyway.

Nice. I had a SUB 1200T from 2016 for a little bit. (It was like a modernized SUB 300 before they decided to just reissue the 300 and 300T.)
It was a really great watch. Very legible with nuclear lume. Very accurate despite having a rather pedestrian ETA 2824-2.

I shouldn't have gotten rid of it, but I didn't find too many occasions where a bright orange watch was appropriate to merit owning one.
It was made under the previous brand management, though. I'm not sure of all the details since Doxa has more drama than a high school lunch room.

Like >>18077615 said, there's been some troubling developments with the QC and customer service. Not the Chinese parts thing, because that's been the case for a long time. (Assembled in Switzerland out of parts made in China.)
But when I read about bad lume, that's just intolerable for a dive watch.

Sure, but that's been the case for Doxa since the early 80s. It was just one bankruptcy after another.

If you know and accept what it is, then it's fine. If you're thinking you're getting something all in Switzerland by a company with 100+ years of heritage, then I guess never google "Doxa history".

If it looks cool and works as the specs advertise, then I can live with it. After all, there's nothing else out there that looks like it. (Apart from obvious ripoffs.)
It's one of those unique designs from the 60s heyday of dive watches where companies experimented with all sorts of designs before the industry ultimately settled on a combination of Submariner/Fifty Fathoms.

The opposite. Tonneau shape cases have more surface than round case shapes, so they wear larger.

The ones I was thinking of were the ones that weren't worn as much (1861 Speedy, and maybe one of the Seamasters), but a month or so, all of that changed due to circumstances that encouraged/required me to wear them more. So, the 1861 is in regular rotation now during recreation, as are the two Seamasters. It's funny how life works out.

>>18077887
AKCHUALLY, they made 1 known prototype during the original production days, but several more have appeared (including barn finds) over the decades well after the company went under and the parts+tooling bought and transferred. Given that modern running Deloreans have been serviced, modified, etc., it wouldn't be a surprise to see another one, as it does fit the normal description (i.e. left-hand drive). What would be interesting is whether or not the engine is in fact the twin-turbo original type, or if they have modified it further (i.e. electric engines, or a whole different system that simply requires extra air). Most Deloreans today are 'franken'...a sad state, but what can you do with a car that is now over 40 years old. I've had the pleasure of briefly driving 2 twin-turbos in my life-time...lovely creatures.

We were discussing the Gen 1 vs Gen 2. The Gen 3 is a considerably more expensive piece so you would expect a higher used price. But they are not as far apart as you might think. The normal color dials go for about 5k more than the Gen 2.

One more thing to remember is the Gen 2 has doubled in value from its retail price, while the Gen 3 is sold below its retail price today. So what does the market say about that?

I'm afraid your information is inaccurate. The original twin-turbo that made it through production and testing still exists...that's one of the ones I've driven (#502); they weren't 'destroyed'. DMC had extra parts for the turbo as well before they went under, which is why others began to surface after the company went under as they were constructed by enthusiasts. Much has happened since then, of course, but Delorean history gets murky as time goes by. Have you driven a normal Delorean before Anon?
