The anon you're quoting is right. That scale is indeed retarded.
It's clearly designed for a 2,5Hz movement
>2,5Hz = 18000 vph
>18000 vph / 60 = 300 ticks per minute
It would make sense for a central second hand or for a chronograph with a 2,5Hz movement. Definitely not for a watch with a small second. That scale is of no use.

>Will a lot of watches be announced at watches & wonders? Should I stop all watch purchasing until it's over.

There's usually a lot announced. Some years are more interesting than others. Whole new model families are not announced as often as small, limited editions or same-watch-new-dial-color versions.

As for how it affects your purchasing, that's kind of a luck of the draw thing unless you have advance knowledge. Say you want to buy a model XYZ for yourself...but during W&W the company announces the new XYZ that's so much better than the old one. Prices for the old one will crater and you'll either get the old one for cheap or pat yourself on the back for waiting so you could buy the new one.
But conversely, if the new one is garbage then there will be a scramble for the old ones before they're gone and you'll kick yourself for not having gotten one a week ago when it was cheaper.

Uh that's a weird thing to say. It's not like you get a Rolex, a Cartier and then you need to get a Patek. Especially modern Patek which in my opinion is boomer trash.
Also I don't want to sound like a dick but these are entry level watches (I have an Explorer too btw), there are dozens of watches from these brands that are far more high-end. Or other brands.
If you want something different, look at vintage watches from the major brands. I've recently bought a 1960s weird looking Vacheron that I can't stop wearing. Absolutely love it.
Or micro-brands. Or complications. Or dress watches. Or whatever makes you smile. These days I'm unironically looking at Panerai and Breitling.

Nothing really, aside from the fact that it's not the ""real"" Speedmaster. Speedmaster fans are some of the most insufferable people in the watch world.

But, no, it's a fine watch with good sizes and a reliable movement+chrono module.
If I had to nitpick, I think the subdials are placed a little too far outboard, but that's a very minor thing.

Today I’m wearing a Chopard MM Ti.
I like chronos, I invent dumb exuses to use them.
I like Swiss watches, specially the kind a indies.

I have a couple of watches, my favorite for personal reasons is an old Tudor oyster case.
I don’t like tag, I think it has became a fag poder brand. I own a 44 f1 and I hate it.
The one I have used the most is a breitling auto colt date. My most expensive is an Ulyssse Nardin Maxi. I’m not a fancy man, but I like watches.

For starters, I personally like the Air-King. I wouldn't wear it, but I appreciate it's quirkiness and it's better than another boring watch from a typically boring company like Rolex.

But at the same time, I think people need to be a little less sensitive. If you're posting your watch here, you should expect to get a little banter. That's the fun of 4chan, isn't it? Immediately responding with naked hostility makes the place less fun.

>inb4 Y-yeah, but they weren't funny either

Watch looks just about right for your wrist. This is an unforgiving angle. It is by no means too big for your wrist. It is not too small for your wrist either. About right judging by the bad angle. It probably looks more delicate when not photographed straight on which makes every watch look big for some reason.

The bracelet tapers neatly around your wrist instead of hanging down, which is the main sign that a watch fits well enough. You should not wear anything larger than 43mm though for sure.

Congrats on your beautiful piece. What else do you own? Let me know if you want suggestions based on your collection.

I know this general is mostly for shitposting but maybe somebody here would actually know

I bought a grand seiko (an old one so seiko grand seiko) pic related with the intention of reselling it since I got it for really cheap, the caveat being that it doesn't work

After troubleshooting for a while I tested it with a magnetometer app on my phone and it definitely starts to go haywire whenever I wave it over the phone leading me to believe that it is actually magnetized

The thing is I've read that since the spring drive mechanism is that weird mechanical quartz hybrid thing that there may be some kind of magnetic component built into the watch itself, so in this case I'm not sure if some magnetism being detected by the meter is expected or not

tl;dr if I bring a grand seiko spring drive that I suspect to be magnetized to a watch repair place and ask them to demagnetize it do I risk fucking the watch up more than it already is

inb4 just send it to grand seiko i will but only if i have to since it costs several hundred dollars and id be lucky to get it back in four months

Mud resist means you can still operate the buttons easily when it gets muddy even if you are wearing gloves. Mud will not damage any regular Casio even if it's not mud resist but it might make the buttons harder to press and the watch harder to rinse clean.

Vibe alarm and LED light and great features, the design is pretty decent. Peak eternal dadwatch.

>inb4 just send it to grand seiko i will but only if i have to since it costs several hundred dollars and id be lucky to get it back in four months
It is literally your only option. GS does not authorize any outside workshop for Spring Drive repair and no one has any clue how to work on them since the technology has been on the market for a pretty short time in the grand scheme of watchmaking, with zero transparency whatsoever.

Nobody is desperate for an Overseas. Overseas buyers wanted a Nautilus or a Royal Oak, couldn't get either, and settled for the sports watch from the little sister of the so-called Trinity.
When Richemont took VC over the first thing they did was order the company to make a Nautilus/Royal Oak competitor. Their previous sports watch was much more elegant Santos competitor but it was also very 1980s-looking.

People who actually know about watches prefer the 2nd gen. It's no surprise that a person who dresses like shit and collects Rolex, the biggest meme in watchmaking, doesn't appreciate it.

You know who always has to get the latest and greatest? Chinks. That's their entire thing. The outgoing model is worthless because in their society you don't exist if you don't have the latest shit.

Same is true for the nouveau riche. People who are aspiring to be rich, or just became rich, will go out and buy Daytonas instead of Moonwatches, for example. Real collectors have the Moonwatch and don't care much for Daytonas.

The problem with UNs (and plenty of other high end brands) is that people will like them, say they're interesting, and so forth; but when anyone is asked "Do you like it enough for you to buy one?" the answer is usually no.

It makes sense to only ever buy them used, because they depreciate horribly and their polarizing designs make people fall out of love with them as easily as they fall in love with them.

Hey guys, can you give me a little help?
My grandfather recently passed and my mom gave me his watch. He hadn't worn it in many years because I'd never seen it.

I know it's a Patek Phillippe and that's a famous brand. I know it's either white gold or platinum because it weighs a ton. Other than that, though, I don't know much about watches. Does anyone know what the model number is or any information about it?

>> No.18074273

>"Do you like it enough for you to buy one?" the answer is usually no.
It would help if their catalog did not jump immediately from "time + date but for the price of your average complication watch" to "hyper high-end experimental watchmaking where you're not always sure how to tell the time because nothing else anywhere even works like this". Or that their more palatable models are all quickly phased out while the more out there collections stay (which makes sense, it's not the San Marco that made them stand out). They aren't exactly doing themselves any favor but that's what makes them a unique presence in the watch market.
I'd save up for a perpetual calendar, if they still made them. Which they don't. I guess that comes with constantly trying to push new tech, you can't keep everything in production and the old has to make way for the new.
