Good and good. Sillage does tend to die down a little bit throughout the day but that's pretty normal. I was at Neiman Marcus the other day and for shits I sprayed Aventus because the last time I smelled it was long before the buyout. The opening was pretty good. Better than I remember it being. Still not worth even a quarter of the asking price, but it actually smelled like pineapple this time. Every other time I've smelled it the opening just smelled generically citrusy and I always just assumed it was an emperor wears no clothes situation.

I just got some samples (5ml and 2x10ml) I feel like Sartorial was stronger, Mitsouko bites a bit too much and Lutens perfumes were stronger too.
I definitely smell all the notes but I dunno they could be clones. I don't have flasks to compare but the whole is kinda shady. When I get a sample of 10ml Mitsouko for the same ml price as buying an actual bottle of the EDP... That seems too good to be true.

I've been using this Indian sandlewood soap. I was extremely hesitant because of the low price. When it arrived, I didn't like the smell out of the box, it's very soapy. But hot damn does it smell good when you start using it. Very realistic sandlewood, it will stink up my entire bathroom. Makes shower time fun, u look forward to using it. I found they have a jasmine and rose version also. The scent of the jasmine is almost non-existent, and the rose is pretty good, but not outstanding. Found some patchouli soap at an Amish store, that is very nice, I'll have to go back and get some more soon. But everyone do yourself a favor and buy some of the sandlewood soap, it's one of the only government approved uses of real sandlewood oils in India, it's legit.

I think in this case something simple, mass appealing, and very clean would be preferable. Take Dylan blue or the like. If you sweat a lot and already have a strong body odor, you may want to play into that and get something meant to mix with that such as something musky. Anybody got any Oud recommendations for an absolute beginner? I have no recommendations so can only repeat what I've heard others say. Oud is a fairly heavy scent so usually isn't good for warmer/hot weather. If you are only going to buy one fragrance you might one to look for a different scent that is a bit more versatile. This general appears to not like Tom Ford stuff.

I realized the other day that most people test frags the wrong way and test strips are almost useless. The default I see people (even so-called "noses") do is

>sniff directly in front of nose

This is better than no testing I guess, but it really doesn't capture what a frag will actually smell like when you wear it. Both body heat and nose distance from source make a huge difference. The most accurate way to judge a frag is to simply wear it how you would normally, whether thats on the clothes or skin. And to NOT directly sniff it at all - just catch whiffs of it as you walk around. This is how other people will smell you, so it's more useful to know.
The frag that brought about this realization was Aqva Atlantiqve. Up-close or on a strip that juice smelled absolutely fucking rancid. But when I actually wore it on my shirt and walked around the wafts were amazing.

Layton was this for me. The initial close-up scent is pretty damn harsh, but the scent in air becomes lovely in a matter of minutes.
