Tax evader, sex trafficker, tried to hide the evidence by deleting posts.

>Citizen drunk/Finncel
25% Finnish, 50% Swedish, rest is a mystery. Lives in Finland. Works as a shelver in a grocery store. Alcoholic. Repetitive posts about his one Eco-Drive. Tragic case of gyno.

>Mortadello
Very positive and friendly, but doesn't post anything of any consequence. Lawyer. Obese. Posts improving photos of amazing watches. Lies about his age. Does not take criticism well.

Semi-regular posters

Happy monday everyone, wearing my err... TBQH I don't know the ref or nickname. I only bought it because its a failed Seiko line. I guess if I were to give it a name I'd name it the quirky shitter.

There's so many things wrong with it, its needlessly big. The lugs are ugly as fuck, the case overall is ugly, its big but has shit water resistance of 50m. The dial looks big, but then the dial is also ugly as fuck. The indices aren't even all applied correctly. I guess Quirky Shitter is right...

That said, if you like the watch, then good for you; just wear it and enjoy it. Presages have the nicest dials of any automatics at that price-point. Pretty interesting stitched herringbone pattern there; hadn't seen that one before.

Why? If someone legit doesn't wanna spend more than a couple of hundred bucks on a watch, why not? I wouldn't spend more than a 150 on a coffee machine. I could, but why would I? Yes there's probably an increase in quality, but I don't care about coffee that much as to where that difference would be all that substantial to me.

Well, it depends. The thing about mid-level products - especially when they are somewhat functional but largely ornamental, as watches are - is that they stand astride a pretty awkward chasm, with pure function on one side (a $15 quartz watch will keep better time than a $15,000 tourbillon), and human craftsmanship, labor, and 'prestige' on the other. For many - especially those who want to show off their status on /fa/, watches are essentially Veblen goods, where the expensive watches are praised precisely because they are expensive and can be used as status symbols on this anonymous image board in an attempt to get a bunch of admiring (you)s. I'm sure there are some who appreciate the tradition, craftsmanship, fit and finish, history, etc of the big names here as well, but there's often a larger contingent of 'if it's not Rolex it's shit' posters.

And honestly, given that if we want to talk about functionality, we also need to admit that everyone is walking around with an atomic clock in their pocket (their cell phone), which makes that 'function' side of the equation tough to justify.

But honestly, if you like your couple-of-hundred-dollar watch, then just wear it and enjoy it; if you're not trying to show off or prove something to anyone else then there's nothing to it but to just wear what you like. If that's a Seiko, so be it.

For power reserve, brands underestimate their movement performances on purpose in order to :
>make you happy when you realize your power reserve is closer to 51 h than the factory-tolerance 48h
>avoid complains, warranty repairs and possible returns from that one retard who will say it's intolerable that his watch lasts 47h when it's supposed to last 48
>aiming for this as the low bar means you'll get better performances once optimization and redundancies and such are added during conception
Same with accuracy : your factory tolerances for beat error, amplitude and daily rate are very easily improved upon because they're lowball numbers. It's not hard to get a 7750 or even a basic 2824 to COSC levels of regulation if you've oiled it well but its factory tolerances will still be -10/+15 with a 40 seconds delta.

>> No.18061574

>>18061569
It plays a role because that shit crushes your accuracy and power reserve. I have tried with some 7750s and you go from approx. 50h to 30h, running very late at the last third.

>> No.18061578

>>18061572
When you try to explain this kind of thing concerning seiko's giant range for accuracy guarantee on their movements they guffaw, but it's true. I've never had a watch that was anywhere close to the extremes of the accuracy range in the manuals, but if they made the stated range too tight they'd probably get destroyed by everyone sending their watches back. When you're told your watch could be as much as 40 seconds fast a day and you find it's actually only about 8 seconds fast, even though that's not particularly great it feels like you made out okay. In a weird way.

>> No.18061597

>>18061578
>if they made the stated range too tight they'd probably get destroyed by everyone sending their watches back
Exactly.
IF you tighten your stated specs, you open yourself to a whoooole lot of warranty interventions on which you'll lose money, all because the operators on your production line were having a shit day when that movement batch fall into their hands.
It's much safer to give very broad estimates knowing full well your movement is capable of much, much better if regulated correctly.
It's also great for maintenance watchmakers who can wing it and still be within factory tolerances because ETA's paper says it's okay as long as you gain less than 15s/d. IF you're being a shitheel and not giving timegrapher tickets to clients, that is.

Because Lip was mass-producing poor quality watches, sometimes based on movement pattents they imported from the USSR. If you try to sell thmem high, you are trying to rip someone off hoping they won't know about the brand. The only Lip that really grow in price because of the demand are vintage Mach 2000 in good condition (because the plastic pushers flake off) and some of the early Nautic Ski models but that's kind of it.
It's like getting a Mickey Mouse dollar watch from Ingersoll in the US, send it to Italy or whatever and ask for 1000 bucks because it's old and vintage. It is absolutely not worth that much, it's a low quality, mass-produced watch and you're just exploiting the possibility that your customers won't know about a foreign brand and believe you that it's worth anything.

I wouldn't think you could get away with that on a website like Chrono24 or ebay or something though. If you're selling watches in person maybe, but when you're scrolling through a website and see a bunch of $100 shitters and then suddenly a couple $1000 watches show up you know something's up. 2 minutes on google can tell you if it's a scam or there's some legitimate reason for that.

I get that anybody can list anything for any price, but still. He's not the only one selling a Lip that high, so there's probably more to the story.

Never ever EVER forget to check bought listings, not active listings.
Especially on ebay.
The site is packed with listings that will most likely never work because the price is way higher than it should in case a sucker falls for it, and if you check the prices that actually resulted in sales, it's often much lower.
Same with chrono24, most prices end up negociated down.
And no, there's really not that much more to Lip, it's :
>the Mach 2000 because of the Talon design and history
>the Nautic Ski because of the olympic connection and the electrical movement
>the supposed "strike watches" that were hidden and sold during the mass strikes at the Lip factory when unions decided to bypass managment and run the sales and finances themselves. Most watches sold as "strike watches" have zero proof that they were actually part of these hidden stock
The rest is mostly basic cheapo dress watches with thin gold plating, some gold cases for ladies watches with less than 20g worth of metal, a small handful of unusuals (the Parking Watch with a countdown for instance. These very rarely show up on sale because they were flops, last one I saw ended up sold on ebay for 600 euro) and their contemporary fake-heritage stuff pretending De Gaulle and Churchill wore their watches

No style of watch excites me as a dive watch. Most of them look absolutely horrible I admit. But those that do look good look so much more adventurous and interesting than other watch styles. It's a shame that they are viewed as Rolex homages. In fact the less a dive watch looks like a Sub the better, unless it's a Tudor hehe. I normally am not pessimistic about any brand but this company is absolutely trash and everything they make is such a cynical reflection of the market. These things are dog shit with zero redeeming value for anyone besides /r/cars users excited with “vintage” inspiration. This is a Chinese made watch. Theyre as bad as Shinola.

The paleness could be from the lighting/camera. My precisionist shitter's rg accents do appear more muted in certain lighting situations compared to others.
I like that dial configuration. I'd take a date wheel over a date window any fucking day of the week. While looking it up I found a few other versions, dark-blue dial, light-blue (almost white) dial, green, brown, and they're not that expensive either. They are chunky though.
