Just sampled 11 frags by Serge Lutens and, my God, not only are none of them offensive and outright bad, they all perform what they promise and are actually very good. Especially Bleu, Ambre Sultan, Fem Bois, Tour de Fer. It's a genuinely good and thought out but very basic line up with some unique signatures. This is what fragrance should be like. I don't want to smell your awfully mixed and shitty interpretation of xyz super popular frag. I want a great selection of high quality frags and something more special. I'd be fine if you only had special frags if they had a reason to exist. In this line up the more unique frags stand out because the other stuff is so interestingly orthodox.

Would love to try Fille en aiguilles, Chypre Rogue and the Lavender as well but they don't seem to offer samples on the website/I haven't found any samples on other sites. Bar some sold out 5ml minis on Etsy.

It's very watery with some fruitiness which makes it smell incredibly fresh and clean and delicious, but not in a gourmand type of way where you'd wanna eat the fruits. There's hints of woods and moss in the drydown which makes it lean masculine, but not much.
Picture a super clear lake surrounded by tons of fruit trees. That's what it smells like to me.
Performance is pretty good for a freshie, but overall the scent profile might be pretty boring to some. It smells really good but not at all exciting. So if you want to stand out by smelling unique or special this probably isn't for you.

Why are there so many weak frags? Seems like anything that has under an "ENORMOUS" sillage rating on fragnatica becomes a skin scent in under an hour unless you spray the shit out of it. Gourmand hoarding is kind of silly. I mean, I love gourmand scents myself, but if you already have couple of those, when are you ever going to actually use all of them? I never found any problem in having a large roster of regular ”daily use” scents, BdC, AdG Profumo, Aventus and its clones, vetivery stuff etc., because it is fun to rotate them, but the gourmandiest stuff is so hard to use unless you have dates every evening or just like to smell like rum and vanilla at home.

Not that there’s anything wrong with the latter, but still.

LMAO got a decant of Sauvage Elixir today, sprayed it on a paper strip about 10 hours ago (1,5 sprays, the initial one was weaksauce as usual with new atomizer), left the strip in my kitchen, and now I can catch scents of it in my bedroom.

OK, I’m not exactly living in a mansion, but what the hell? I even like the scent, but where could I ever use that? Too fucking loud for office, I prefer something bit less aggressive for dates, so is it just supposed to be used to reassert your dominance in assorted public spaces?

It’s possible that it becomes usable on skin, but still, I’ve never seem a strip radiate scent so far before, usually lighter fragrances become armslength scents and typical strong performers have a bubble of couple of meters at this point.

Ignore the people bitching about skin vs tester, while it’s true the two are wildly different, your initial interpretation is correct - tester strips usually have lower projection but *wildly* longer longevity, I’m talking weeks to even months if it’s something really strong.

And yes, Elixir is loud af, it’s basically an outdoor only frag, a kind of alternative clubbing frag, or as you said, assert dominance frag.

That's many clones for you. People blind buy them, hype them up to convince themselves it was a good purchase and that it's "totally 90% similar bro". And in this case if the clone is a weak performer, then the nuclear sausage elixir would have been better value in the long run

Not a regular here, but a year ago there was a nice dude with a garden shtick to match Bree from the Desperate housewives... If he or any other planters are still here any inspo for indoors sexy stuff to rotate and plan throughout the year? I am already onto a big pile of hyacinths, lilies and will try to get heliotrope, winter jasmine and tuberose.
I recently smelled the oils used in Les Indemodables and found them to be better than the final compositions, especially rose one, so I am really in the mood for touching the grass with 3d flowers instead of chasing smelly waters.

I am a massive SL fan you should jump onto Bapteme de Feu, Le Participe Passé(Chene on steroids) while they are still easy to find as they have got discontinued, also the ones which have been moved to the bell jars from the 50/100mls.
Bell jar lavender is kinda too bitter and herbal to me and not much incense and the new version Gris Clair is very nice, slightly le male lavender and a hot iron pressing on a clean shirt smell, sadly haven't smelled the old one in 50ml format.
The sexiest stuff is hard to get:
Borneo 1834
De Profundis
Pre 2010 Iris Silver Mist
Sarrasins
Also their at home line may be interesting and easy to get dirt cheap. Mesk el-lail is like a sweeter and happier Fils de Joie.
Parole d'eau is also worth looking into from the easy to find ones.

I only care about scents. When I was a little kiddy my parents would get me essential oils for various reasons and it imprinted on me enough I collect them now alongside interesting fragrances. I love intense fresh lavender oils made locally and make my own rosemary oil. If I give it long enough I’m going to transform into the mc of Perfume.

Coincidentally I was also obsessed with this book as a kid. Don’t worry, I’ll distill that fresh virgin musk eventually lads

It really peeves me that no discounter holds Sartorial in their inventory in EU and the only bottle size is 100ml. Or it could be a bad decant, oxidized or something. On competition, I’m trying Spicebomb Extreme today, and it seems to last better, but it also feels disappointingly linear and there’s some spice (cumin?) that dominates the entire spectrum too hard, makes it feel a bit too Christmas-vibed. You wouldn’t happen to have experience with both Sartorial and Beau de Jour? I tried BdJ and liked it, it’s sure a rich fougere, but I also felt that it could be just a bit too heavy for daily use. The way how people describe Sartorial with that little honey/beeswax touch and ”fresh steam” in it makes me wonder if it would be an easier fougere to daily.

To be clear. I don’t think that BdJ would be too old-school or anything, I’m old enough to carry a fougere without worrying about ”old man scent” insecurities, I just wish for something bit gentler.
