The first thing he did when his father gave him the reins of the company was to discontinue all the iconic elegant watches from the brand, and replace them with thick 42mm retarded ugly boomer-tiers shitters.

I hate the current state of wristwatch fashion. Can we just be honest with ourselves and recognize that every modern watch that’s not been a staple for half a decade or an homage to the 70’s looks like pure shit? You’ve got dress watches starting at 39mm in diameter, fucking kill yourself. Your wrist looks putrid with that big white dinner plate fastened to it. Maybe it’s actually more comfortable to have a slender, piece of metal on your wrist all day, rather than a huge shackle that won’t even fit a jacket sleeve over it? Is it that hard, do we need 20 years to figure that out? Quartz was supposed to fix this shit but it only made it worse somehow. Make human sized, elegant timepieces, you Swiss assholes. Do I really need to scout eBay for an Omega that loses a minute a day? For fucks sake.

I agree if we're talking about dress watches, but divers, skin divers and sport watches are fine between 38 and 42 mm. This said, the current horology world is completely devoid of inspiration and unable to invent new meaningful designs. That's why it's only good they are putting classic watches of the past into production again. It's their admission of defeat, and we should take advantage from it.

This is my hermetically sealed omega, like what Mallory died with on Everest. A shame the dial is damaged where thr internal hinge is. Strap loops were replaced poorly at some stage and indeed the 6 o'clock one is broken, and the unbreakable crystal is yellowed and crazed. Still it makes an interesting "beater". I had the strap made for me, it's quite nice.
It is engraved on the back Alex from Mother Xmas 1925
One day I will remake and silver solder the strap loops, I probably won't tidy it up too much unless I can get a replacement dial

I’ve been wearing my Sea-Gull 1963 lately. It’s a legit Sea-Gull and not some knockoff. I like the clean design. I just wish it had a sapphire crystal instead of acrylic. The 2023 models have sapphire. I might get one of those later.

The good brands are doing exact reissues of historic classics. Not similar, but literally the same fucking watch that people used to wear in the 1950-70s getting back into production again. Examples are Vulcain, Squale, Aquastar, Airain, Nivada Grenchen. All sadly overlooked and underrated.

Vintage '60s Omega, Seamaster is the logical choice but a pie-pan Constellation will really impress watch people. They made a bunch of these in different variations so look around and see if there's one you prefer in particular.

There aren't any. I'm not kidding anon. Nobody makes watches like these anymore. Even modern Cartier has forgotten how to make these.

See that's the thing with watches from the 60s and 70s. They were so perfectly crafted and so beautiful that the following generations of watchmakers decided to make completely different things to avoid any comparison. This is why we have retarded monstrosities like pic related nowadays.

You still can find some cute vintage Vacheron, Piaget, JLC or Chopard that have the same vibes as these Cartier, but they're still expensive (around 4/6k USD). If you can't afford to spend 5k on a watch, just forget about this "hobby".

Hey guys, /wt/ was a bit slow so posting again here.

I'm buying my first "real" watch for my birthday this month but I haven't yet decided which one to get.

My budget is 300-400€ give or take and the size should be 40-42mm. Metal bracelet. I like the steel/titanium with black watch face look.

This is my list so far:

Casio Waveceptor LCW-M170TD-1AER
- titanium and sapphire glass for around 300€
- 40mm
- the engineer in me likes the features
- read that the bracelet feels a bit cheap?

Orient Kamasu/Mako III
- 42mm
- sapphire glass for around 300€
- I like the classic diver look

Citizen Tsuyosa
- 40mm
- sapphire glass
- least expensive, found it for 260€
- quite inoffensive, maybe even boring though

Seiko 5 SRPE51
- classic model
- mineral glass, but shouldn't matter much
- found for around 300 as welll

Casio Oceanus T200S
- steel case, sapphire glass, 41,5mm
- supposedly god tier build quality
- can sync time via radio and bluetooth
- not sure about the navy watch face, but I'll probably fall in love when I see it
- has to be ordered from Japan, expensive customs fees and wonky warranty possible

Which one do you feel would be the "best" watch? For any reason at all, like a well known design, features, movement quality etc. Also, I'm very much open to alternatives.

San Martin sells a watch which is a blatant ripoff of a rolex submariner. The only thing needed to be changed on the dial would be the logo and it would be a 1 to 1 copy. It's not difficult to imagine the same chinese factory where this is made juat swapping the logo to make rolex fakes. Seeing since selling fake rolex is illegal they'd have to distribute them through sketchy back channel dealers.

NTA but a zombie/phoenix brand is when a brand that's gone out of business gets its naming rights bought up by another years later. With Swiss watches, so many smaller brands that made mildly successful interesting looking watches (see >>18040846) went out of business during the quartz crisis that there's been a renewed interest in reviving these brands from both VC startup types (like Nivada) and big brands, with Breitling recently acquiring the Universal Geneve name.
