Western noses might be more enthusiastic towards this because they most likely haven't smelled anything like this before; but as a middle easterner, Interlude reminds me too much of spice cabinets for it to cause the same level of intrigue for me.

When I smell this I don't think "rich, opulent, mysterious middle eastern man"; I think "grandma must've put too much turmeric in her stew today"

>> No.18026035

Q80 12/29/2014 19:25
oh really? are you serious guys that this is oud? this exactly like going to an Arabian restaurant that sells Arabian sweets (Kanafeh), meat sandwiches (shawarma) and some grilled Kufta, Kebab, and they serve american food which is beef bacon with ketchup! and you are sitting in the middle, and that's exactly Interlude Man. it's really bad if westerners thinks this is oud and sorry it's even funny to know that, no offense.

>> No.18026036

This thing is just disgusting! To begin with, I never understood all this oud/arabic trend anyway. Maybe its bcoz I come from the Mashriq part of the Middle East where we prefer more european scents, but to me this smells like cheap attar perfume you buy in the traditional souks which probably comes from china or India and is usually worn by unstylish people with limited fanancial means. You can say I don't respond as readily to the whole "exotic orientalist" offering as a westerner would.

I Tried it today because of all the positive reviews here, (some even called it ghotic or the smell of a powerful priest lol. I guess its the bakhour/oud element giving that impression which is expected, but its not even the nice version!) and I just think its awful period. Yes it's powerful, but who cares for power when it smells like that! Plus on my skin it must have not worked with my chemistry coz I swear it turned into sweat smell! So maybe my opinion is flawd. Don't know how to describe it.

Anyway the saleswoman sensed I wasnt that thrilled and told me yeah this might be heavy and too "old" for you (I'm in my 30s lol but k8nda look younger) and then suggested another one called "Reflection" . That one was much much nicer. Although it shares somewhat the same DNA, it's much more modern n fresher n lighter and somewhat has a nice peppermint smell to it. Nicer but still not enough for me to buy it I guess.

Conclusion: Amouage and me can't be friends sorry lol.

PS: I could still smell it on my wrist as a skin scent on the 4th day! Yes I admit I had skipped showering on the 3rd day lol coz I was too tired, but still this thing is strong. If you like those latest Tom Ford perfumes with oud and the other similar brands that also are putting out lately oriental oud inspired perfumes you might want to try this though .

>> No.18026038

This the most powerful fragrance of all time. It's also one of the only fragrances that literally sent me to the hospital. Oregano, Oud, smoke and resins make this fragrance dangerous. This is the most nauseating scent I ever wore. I sprayed it on my dzikr beads and went to pray......worse idea ever. I actually had to go to the hospital. Couldn't stop vomiting. It continued until only blood and acidic foam was left in my stomach. Keep in mind I removed my beads and still almost died. This fragrance traumatized me. I abandoned scents entirely for over a month. Blue beast.....more like Blue Devil.

>> No.18026039

Praise be to God, the fragrance was tried today at Paris Gallery. = = = = My impression of the fragrance was the opposite of what I expected, the smell that I imagined on the one side and the scent of the perfume on the side of the perfume smelled of spiced skins that muffled your sense of depression and rashness I was shocked when I smelled it, I did not like it at all ... I run away from the scents of leather perfumes because they do not suit me at all ... the fragrance reminded me of the old firm of Sayed Junaid, not in general, but with the smell of unpleasant leather, and in general, the packaging is the best thing in perfume. Advice for someone to buy this perfume without trying a second tip for lovers of leather scents You are welcome to try this fragrance you may like

>> No.18026043

Please note that this page is dominated by western users. In other words, likeability rates should not be a reference for someone who grew up in Turkey. Interlude is very popular according to the rates above. However, it is a very harsh perfume for our geography. I tried it many times and the same thing always occurred to me; The designer, who was on his way to creating a great perfume, got tired and quit. Yes, the brand uses a concept of chaos regarding perfume. They are right, there is a long lasting chaos. It beats you up, whether you like it or not. However, it is so hard and strong that it wears you out. If you like it, think about your surroundings and use less. Otherwise, you will wear out your friends, especially in the office environment. It's not a social atmosphere perfume. Maybe it can make you happy in cold and open weather.
None of the notes listed here take center stage on their own. There is a mixture that is constantly shouting. I tried it 4-5 years ago and gave up. In my opinion, do not buy it without giving it a good trial period. If you buy it, use it sparingly. Don't force yourself by looking at the likes rate.

Ordered some Profumum samples earlier this month and gave each a couple of wear now
>Acqua di Sale
Initially there's a burst of typical “sports” shower gel freshness which mellows out pretty soon and then turns into a pleasant after shave balm type of scent. Pretty generic.
>Arso
First I got resin, wood workshop and artificial smoke. The resin goes away after half an hour and then you're left with woodchips and smoke. I hoped this could be my forest frag holy grail but nope.
>Ambra Aurea
Vanillin, sawdust, and the same note of artificial smoke as in Arso. Doesn't really evolve, just gets weaker with time. The smoke will linger on your skin for 8 hours but the frag turns into a skin scent pretty early. Very subpar amber if you think about all other options available.
>Thundra
Starts off with a an offensive mushroomy note paired with peppermint. After 20 minutes, there's only peppermint, which then turns into something I could only describe as vegetal. Gross but at least SOMETHING happened.
>Acqua Viva
Citronella/lemon oil, not much else.
>Acqua di Zucchero
Cotton candy with some fruity notes. If I didn't know better, I'd think this is a 25€ frag marketed to girls.

All had rather moderate projection, though decent longevity.

Granted, my expectations were kind of high based on what I've heard/read online but this stuff smells ridiculously cheap and one dimensional given the prices they charge.

you should wear what you personally like. most of the reports of "what women like" and "compliment magnets" are made by ugly 50 year old indian men whose coworker felt forced to say he smelled nice when he wore 20 sprays of Eros to work and kept fishing for compliments
women have their personal likes and dislikes too, it doesn't really make sense to try to predict them. just wear something fairly normal and not T-Rex and you'll be fine

Made the mistake of blind buying this a few years back. I can barely smell it, smells like faint shoe polish to me. Even went to 2 stores to sample it there and make sure my bottle wasn't tainted but nope. It's odd because there's plenty of frags that are lowly rated in the performance department on Fragrantica that perform great to my nose and then a supposed beastmode release comes along and it gets lost on me. to the anon that recommended i try Iron Duke, i ended up blind buying it and I'm really glad i did. it's a great frag. i have other samples from Beaufort so excited to try these.

i sampled a bunch of smoky frags the other day. the one i was excited the most about was Rhino from Zoologist, and i was kinda disappointed. i like weirded fragrances but it was simply not that pleasant.

also, what are people's thoughts on Imaginary Authors? I get the performance isn't know to be great, but the scents are very interesting and fairly cheap. was looking at trying Every Storm a Serenade and Memoirs Of A Trespasser.

4 hours of projection is not a bad score for a fresh citrus fragrance desu, and I get decent performance from TdH myself
an outlier with some similarities to TdH would be Bois Imperial, which has very strong performance. not citrusy, but also has a green transparent woody and spicy thing going on
I guess there's also Red Vetiver, which I hear is a clone of TdH with strong performance. it will probably come at the cost of smelling worse though

For fragrances I think the order of priority is 1 you like it>>2 others broadly like it>>>>>3 you don't smell like others. Very few people will be able to identify precisely what you are wearing an connect it to a specific brand. If a person notices the scent 99.9% of them will solely make the determination if they like it or not. If Bleu is popular then that is a good sign that the number 2 priority, do other people like it, is met. And if you like it as well that should be all you worry about.

it really is and i don't agree that any orto parisi or naomi goodsir makes higher perfumery than gardoni. trex is neither a novelty nor unwearable, that applies to fragrances like nekro dellamorte or secretions magnifiques. if he wants to get into smoke, trex is something he definitely should try. you're not doing him any favors by keeping him away from it
and this is just my (mostly unrelated) personal hateboner but i'm fed up by fragrances that take smoke and then smooth it out until it's uninspiring and boring. what's the point of doing something like that to smoke? same applies to any castrated animal note.

Ayyy, that was me! Good choice Anon, it really is a superb frag.

As for IA, they’re like a more niche, less good version of ELDO, and ELDO is already very middling.
I shouldn’t speak too poorly of them, as I haven’t tried a ton of their frags, but as you said, most of their stuff has lackluster performance.
Soft Lawn 1.0 most people associate with pickles because of the dill. ESAS is screechy ambroxan, or whatever their variant is. City on Fire is very one-note, but good if you just want smoke.
My one redeeming factor from them is A Whiff of Waffle Cone 2.0. It’s a sweet gourmand with good longevity and sillage, and smells fantastic if you’re into the genre.
It will always hold a special place in my heart/collection because it was my first (indirect) unprompted compliment. I actually had two different people talk about smelling it during the day at work. The first said it smelled like burnt coffee, not bad but not to her taste, and the second was a guy that just walked up to me and a buddy and said “Something smells amazing”.

Ah thank you Anon, you’re too kind. In the grand scheme of things I’m still very inexperienced.
Beaufort is easy to suggest because they’re a tiny niche house with only 10 frags, and more than half of those range from quite good to excellent. The rest aren’t too bad either.

Most other suggestions would have to be specific frags, not whole houses.
Eg, it’s quite different from Beaufort’s stuff, but I’m a big fan of Burning Barbershop, smoky take on a modern fougere. Uses a burnt oil scent for the smoke, which is similar but distinct from most other smoky frags. Mint at the top slowly fades and gives way to the hay note in the base.

Did a /frag/ tour of London yesterday.
Creed absolutely blew my mind. I thought it must be a meme, because usually the most popular of anything sucks (see: Angels' Share), but my god Aventus is amazing. They even have a limited edition 75mL Aventus that is much more forceful and concentrated, like opening a fresh pineapple fruit salad. Absolutely beautiful. Bois de Portugal and Royal Oud also stunning, I could wear them every day.
Panhaligon was underwhelming after visiting Creed, tried the Halfetis and they were nice but, straight after Creed, were conspicuously lacking in complexity, depth and character.
Same with Jo Malone. Very nice, direct, single-minded fragrances, and I did like the grapefruit and the blackberry, but not game changers for me.
Ormonde Man was a bit lost of me too, nice but I don't see what all of the fuss is about. Santal 33 didn't impress, but that's because I had my sights set on Papyrus Moleculaire anyway, which is to me a much better Santal 33.
Came home with 100mL of Papyrus. For me it occupied the same sort of territory as Bois and Royal Oud, significantly cheaper, as a beautiful, light daytime fragrance.
I will head out again for a fuller, sexier evening fragrance next time. I fucking hated the samples of Angels' Share and Tobacco Vanilla that I tried, so I'm at a bit of a loss when it comes to heavier night time scents. Maybe I should just get the concentrated Aventus. Who cares if you smell like everyone else, if you smell that good.
