Hi /wt/ I came here first like 2 months ago telling you I wasnt into watches but was mesmerized by an IWC ad for a watch that cost more than my house deposit.

Ive been reading, following stuff over here and watching (heh) youtube videos here and there. I dont know why I became interested in watches all of a sudden.

Here is my first watch ever, Orient Bambino V4 42mm

Sorry Anon....for me, it was one-and-done. What are you wearing on your wrist today?

>>18022631
Nice watch, Fren! The green dial looks relaxing! Watches are a deep well, as it offers so much for someone to learn and 'hobbify'. Everything from precision, to accuracy, to aesthetics, to bragging rights...it's all here. Wear it in good health, Anon!

>>18022632
Honestly, I like Omega due to their general aesthetic direction. I love the lyre-style lugs, but more importantly I love the proportions on the dials (this goes way back even to the 1930s); for whatever reason, their watches 'speak' to me. I could wax poetic for days on why I have chosen the watches I own, but ultimately it's just about what my eyes find attractive, and then finding the best iterations of that particular model.

As an example, my 105-012 is, to my eyes, the best Speedmaster Professional ever created. The pushers are perfectly recessed into the case, the applied logo works with the drop second-hand, the long hour indices are the correct length for the proportion of the step-dial to the bezel and to the subdials, and so on and so forth. All of the Omegas I own follow these principles, so every time I pick one up to wear, my eyes are happy.

I can't say the same about other brands though. As an example, JLC Reversos get the proportions wrong for some of their sizes, and Piagets usually seem suspiciously 'empty' on the dial. Modern Panerai also are a lost cause, even though early (i.e 90s-early 00s) are excellent.

What are you wearing today, Fren?

Say you build a slowly unwinding spring and hooked it up to a generator and used that thing to power a normal battery clock, is that mechanical? Fuck no.
If it's regulated by a quartz oscillator it's quartz, if it's regulated by a balance wheel it's mechanical.

An EV car is not really a "green" vehicle if it's charged from electricity generated by burning coal.

That being said there is nothing wrong with quartz no matter how much the shills try to convince you.
The spring drive has the gear train and most of the aspects of a mechanical watch yes, but still, it keeps the time with a quartz oscillator so to put it simply, it is a quartz watch.

hi anon, that's a nice dial color. I also recently became interested in watches and binged on learning about the entry level ones that grabbed my interest.
if you get tired of the factory leather strap, you may put a steel mesh, subtle looking rubber strap, or nylon strap to make the overall feel more flexible and turn a dress watch into a casual looking one. there are nice looking straps for $6 or less. they may greatly change the overall aesthetic and make your watch look fresh again.

Yeah, because that's the part where yoir logic completely combusts. Pun intended. You just want to coast off of the idea that electric cars feel good because they don't emit exhaust and you generally don't feel the money coming out of your pocket when you plug in at home. You think you're saving money and minimizing harm because all of the harm happens somewhere you can't physically see in front of you. Almost all electricity in the US comes from coal because it has to, the efficiency and productivity of things like wind farms and solar panels is wildly overstated and propagandized above its ability to solve our energy issues. Nuclear power is a possible solution but when it comes time to build a plant everyone becomes a nimby. So we're stuck with coal electricity and your electric car is effectively coal powered and every time someone buys an electric car they are putting more strain on the electrical grid and it will inevitably raise energy costs and possibly even lead to energy rationing. And that's not even getting into the environmental and human rights issues in mining the materials to produce its electronic components.

>Lots of little bubbles and flaws in the dials.
Those bubbles are there to make the enamel stronger, the complex shapes of the cavities make for a lighter yet stronger material so there is less chance of cracking. The enamel also gains yet another level of deep shimmer and sparkle, reminiscent of the late nights on the beaches of Lake Suwa illuminated by the full summer moon, the Hazuki.

It is a well known fact that bubbles improve rigidity of any material. Look at concrete, that's why they use those big vibrators, to force little bubbles of air in to make it stronger. The technique was invented by the Chinese from the Qing dynasty around 1650.

>up to and including a hair embedded in the dial.
Dark, shiny hair is considered a Japanese cultural beauty ideal, and it is believed that “beautiful hair can make any woman beautiful.” For this reason, hair care also adheres to rituals, including the use of an essential tool, tsugegushi (boxwood enameled combs).
It is believed that each strand of hair carries spiritual energy. Wooden enameled combs in Japan were once believed to have shamanic qualities. Women would use them to groom their hair, thinking that the enameled combs would gather each strand’s spiritual energy. Traditionally, women would be given a set of these combs when they married. Geisha also have a history of using them as hair decorations. Today the use of these combs is less common.
Boxwood is naturally oily, so the combs made from the material are enameled to be made anti-static, avoid breakage, and are gentle on the scalp. The enameled combs come in two styles: tategushi (vertical) and yokogushi (horizontal). Tsugegushi are used to create every possible hairstyle, from the slicked-back topknots of the sumo wrestlers to the perfectly precise up-dos of the geisha.
Traditionally, boxwood enameled combs have been created from 35-year-old trees. The wood is harvested in August or September when the weather is hot but humidity is low, then dried for three years. The boxwood is then enameled which takes another 40-50 steps. The process from start to finish can take up to 100 steps. The Japanese government officially recognizes close to 200 traditional national industries, and enameled comb making tops the list.
Every 20 years boxwood enameled combs are sent to the Ise Shrine in Japan, where they are ritually burned in sacrifice to the sun goddess, Amaterasu.

>> No.18023160

>>18023156
That must have been one of the rare tsugegushi dials. It was said that a few watches were made with a single hair embedded in the enamel to honnor the ancient japanese ritual of Amaterasu where the enameled boxwood combs were burned. It was rumored that two versions of the tsugegushi dial exist, one with the hair vertical (the tategushi) and one with the hair horizontal (the yokogushi). Nobody has seen a Yokogushi yet.

>The true account of the European /wt/ meetup

>Whoretadello selected the venue, a mid-priced Japanese restaurant in Nürnberg. He arrived first and brought a very tired-looking girl with him. She told us her name was Candy, but later also told us her name was Bambi. No one got the chance to clear up the confusion because she left to go to the bathroom after twenty minutes and never returned.
>Finncel arrived first. He was late but that's OK. He was coming from a long way away and wasn't driving. He was heavily intoxicated, so it's a good thing he took the train. He sat down heavily, boobs bouncing, and ordered a drink. Whoretadello started to talk about Seikos but after fifteen minutes of nonstop talking he realize that Finncel appeared had fallen asleep. Whether from booze or boredom, no one could say.
>Just when Whoretadello began to despair that this whole thing had been a waste of time a tall, skinny girl appeared in the restaurant foyer. She looked nervous in her dress and wobbly on her heels. Whoretadello saw she was wearing an F-91w and waved her over. Cockwatch smiled brightly and wobbled over, sitting down between the two men. Whoretadello began talking about anime and his trip to Japan while she nodded politely, absentmindedly scratching at the razorburn on her neck.
>Finncel woke up and ordered a vodka when he noticed his new dinner companion. He suggested the three of them order dinner.
>Over dinner, Whoretadello continued to talk about how he was basically a Japanese at this point while Finncel drank in silence. Cockwatch tried to to see if her two companions were interested in spit-roasting her. Whoretadello didn't know what to say. Finncel immediately responded and called dibs on the mouth. He was drunk, but not stupid-drunk.

>It was at this point I got up from the bar, paid my tab and left. I'd seen more than enough. My bitter heart can only take so much comedy at once.

Oh you'd love that, wouldn't you. By the way, do your friends/acquaintances know you've posted unmasked pictures of them on the internet continuously for hours of your life? Have you apologized to them and made a commitment to them not to do it anymore? Clearly not, because you kept doing it, but have you shown them the slightest bit of remorse? You don't appear to feel badly at all for doing it.

First of all, cool it with the sour grapes.

Keep in mind that you do tend to get what you pay for with watches most of the time, at least in the sub-$1k category. I have one of the cadisen explorer homages with a gold/champagne color dial, I mostly like it but it has its problems - the bottom edges around the case are sharp, the clasp has some sharp pointy spots, the dial and hands are a little bit close in color to a point where in some lighting it's hard to read. But it's not a bad watch when you consider it's cheap as hell. For the same sort of experience you can spend a little more for an islander manhasset, it's actually a little lighter and more comfortable and doesn't have the issues with sharp edges. I have a manhasset I wear on a jubilee bracelet and it's honestly pretty close to a perfect watch for the money.

I also have one of the pagani daydate homages. Again I mostly like it but I'd never recommended it or buy it for someone else because I had a lot of issues with it. The threading on the crown is fucked up to where you can turn it down forever and never hit a clear wall, the threading on a pin between two of the bracelet links is fucked up so that it loosens forever without ever coming out. I'm not even sure how you do that. It also has some sharp edges and it came magnetized so I had to demagnetize it and the seagull movement used in it never really kept great time. But if you want a 36mm steel daydate it's just about your only option without buying vintage watches, and most of that is stuff nobody else looking at it is ever going to know. Nobody needs to know you have a box at home with two bracelet links fused together.

Sugess does look great online but keep in mind they're also using mostly seagull and other Chinese movements. They might run great, they might be fucked up, they might shit the bed in a week, and so on.
