I like the tank more better. You can get one with a mech movement for a more similar price to the jlc. With no seconds hand, you wouldn't notice the quartz movement anyway besides the ease of use and function.

Discounting price as a factor, try them both. The Tank is a little daintier, the Reverso wears long and flat. Neither of them wear like a normal round watch and they take some getting used to.

I posted last week about this cheap piece of shit I found while cleaning. Got a new battery and a NATO strap like I was recommended to. Looks nice but what is a good price to have the glass replaced? I got it in like 2005/6/7 for about $60 and I want to wear it mostly for old times sake as a beater. I just found one of those on USA luxury watches site for 5400 and a two year warranty. I'm not sure your going to get a bargain in Japan on a Rolex. If you're doing it for the experience, then good. Check out @craftandtailored on jewtube they've popped up in my feed before. You would find a very good deal on GS and other hap watches with the yen the way it is, but I realize that's not what you're after. Ho hum. Get rid of any purchase info like receipts or boxes before you reenter, I wouldnt be surprised if taxes would be $400ish on something like that.

I told you what to do in the last thread. Just go there and shop around. If i were you I'd watch videos on youtube by this autist called WatchSymposium. For a fee, he will take you shopping in Japan and find you a good watch.

I watch his videos and he has done it with viewers before. keep in mind, as a traveller you don't pay GST/VAT so you'll save 10% if you take your passport to the store.

the watches you're interested in are fairly common and will be in almost any store carrying rolexes which is good for you. YOu don't really have to worry about fakes there either.

good luck and let us know how the trip goes. I want to go to Japan with my family in the near future.

Homosexuality is not an aberration of nature because it springs from nature. Nature is wise. Homosexuals (you) exist as assistants to great men (me) and they also exist to provide balance between men and women if trained properly. It's mainly to squeeze in more battery. You can get full features in a 42 mm case, but battery life takes a hit. If you don't need maps you can get an entry level watch in 39 mm and it's so light it genuinely does feel like wearing a Casio. I can't respect this. Nothing dispels the illusion that you're wearing a watch because it tells the time (the only justifiable reason to wear a watch) quicker than wearing another device displaying the time on your other wrist. If you follow the people on WUS, or forums dedicated to Rolex in particular, the current average to get a 'good' watch (i.e. a stainless steel Daytona) is around 75-100k, depending on the location. No, there is no point in competing with rich arabs and asians. You won't have to spend 40k for a datejust, you'll just have to wait a while. That's why getting a Daytona used for around 25k or so makes sense if you want it now. Spending lots just to get one at retail makes zero sense, since the 'real' price is the grey-market one. Pay the real price instead of paying multiples to get it at a discount.

>>18020029
Yes, it is a good reputable brand, though vintage Heuer has more respect in the 'community'. The one you are looking at would be fine; have you tried one on in person? That's the real test. True, most independents I've come across don't care if it's a fake, though they will inform you that it is a fake (just in case you didn't know before) and if they're good they'll let you know what other cost-saving measures you can take to keep it running, even to the point of dropping in replacement movements that are slightly better (i.e. a new Sellita movement to replace some 90's era shitter from China). As for replicas being close to the real thing...the sad truth is that they are not unless they are a frankenwatch that uses factory parts. You'll see fake Rolii forums where people spend hundreds if not thousands to have factory dials, bezels, crystals, etc. but have a fake movement inside. Sure, from the outside it looks real (because the exterior parts ARE real), but it'll never perform the same way. For those people, it's enough that the watch is real on the outside, but to get it that way, you have to pay quite a hefty sum.

What I mean is, when you go to try it on, try it on several times on different days; when you're tired, when you're happy, when you're hungry, etc. If you love the watch even when you're pissed off, then it's a keeper. If you change your mind due to your mood, you won't love the watch all the time and you should pass on to something else.

I've had odd experiences trying on watches...usually with watches that look great on paper and in pics but on wrist look awful. Nothing can change that initial experience where you put on a watch and your eyes say NO. I had that happen with the Octafinissimo or whatever the hell it's called, for instance; it looks great on paper, is super thin, and all the other things...but on my wrist it was a sudden (like explosive vomiting) no. Such is life. Is it your first Tag?

>>18020070
It's worse. If you wanted that limited edition Daytona that they released with the Newman-style subdial markers, you'd have to be in the 500k range of spending. Bear in mind, this normally includes jewellery as well as watches, so this could include stuff for the wife. One guy I know has a 'relationship' with his Rolex AD, and thank god that AD hasn't moved on or changed owners. Prior to covid, he first bought a two-tone datejust for himself and his then-girlfriend just because, and when Covid first started, he bought a Cellini (one of the modern ugly ones) and a red dialed OP so that he could get on the list for a SS sub with date. He got it after 6 months of waiting, and then he got on the list for a Platinum Skydweller. He got that after 2 months of waiting, but was told he still wouldn't be on the list for a stainless steel daytona. So, he bought a president day-date (again in platinum because that's what he likes), and got on the list for a Daytona. He's been on the list for about 3 years now and is still waiting.

Okay, sorry for the delay. When purchasing your first 'nice' watch, you have to establish a few things before spending any money.

1) Do you prefer style or performance?
2) Do you prefer quartz-regulated or mechanically-regulated watches?
3) What daily use will the watch go through? Does this include use underwater?
4) Do you prefer brand new (you are the first owner) or are you okay with pre-owned?
5) Do you know a watchmaker who can service/repair your watch, or are you okay with sending it to the manufacturer (which is usually a higher cost)?

Once you establish these general parameters, then you can start to zero-in on what works for you, for your style, and your budget. Expectations on the performance of the watch can also be constrained as a result.

What do you think?

I'd prefer brand new just because it simplifies the process but I wouldn't mind buying something vintage either
>5) Do you know a watchmaker who can service/repair your watch, or are you okay with sending it to the manufacturer (which is usually a higher cost)?
I know of a watchmaker near me that services watches but I've never needed their services

From what I've seen I prefer chronographs/weird complications in general, not a huge fan of GMTs/dive watches (though I don't hate the submariner or rolex gmt they're just not my first choice)

Good; with this info, other Anons can chime in with ideas now that we've narrowed down a few things. Here's what I'd suggest as a general suggestion:

1) Style: if it's your first 'nice' watch, don't settle for the style if that's a priority; find the 'best' within reason, and if you can't afford it now, save up for it. As an example, if you liked a Rolex Submariner in terms of style, it would be better to save for that precise watch instead of getting a lookalike that was less expensive; the 'cope' watch will never scratch the itch. Performance is far easier to mimic than style.

2) Mechanical: would you prefer automatic wind or hand-wound? Do you want chronometer specs (or better), or is it okay for it to be +/- 10 seconds or more per day?

3) Then you should be fine with almost any watch, as long as it has new gaskets and/or has been pressure tested within a year. If it's an office job, do you want something formal-looking and sharp, or can anything go (like a g-shock).

4) Understandable, but the price may be higher for less-desirable models and brands in order to accomplish this.

5) Excellent.

The JLC Master Geographic looks like a cool model, even though the dial looks like it has damage to it (under the handset). Have you checked Chrono24? They might offer more options, although so far the price is higher than the one you have found.

Quite honestly, for what you're looking for, I'd suggest doing a blanket search on Chrono24 by budget (say, between 2-5k) of all watches, and just look through and see what you like and what you don't. You may find certain companies tend to have watches that appeal to your eye, but you'll also see things that might not come up if you only visit ADs that have current stock and nothing from older designs.

If I were to buy that JLC, I'd take it to JLC immediately and have them service it. It would be costly, and they might have to replace the dial...but it would be fresh and working very well after.

Screw that "muh AD worship" nonsense, only ever encountered that with 1 brand. Even the Ferrari dealer wasn't that absurd and I made it clear I was browsing.

Anon from a few months ago or a year ago. You said you'd take a picture of it and I am glad you did.

This looks much better than the coomers red seiko. I would open these threads and see his watch thinking it might be the bulova jet star and was disappointed to see his seiko which wasn't even a grand seiko.

I like the red more than the limited edition one.

$100 reps are junk.

You need to spend $500 plus for good ones and even then you need additional authentic parts to fool the scrutinizing watch euthuiast and a good back story. The smartest wealthy people I know that are smart are boomers that hate watches period. The others will be influenced by the superficial charm of the watch they perceive is real. I own several authentic watches and fakes and it is very difficult to tell the difference. The only fakes not worth getting are precious metal ones where the weight difference is obvious.

It also depends what you do for a profession and other elements of your life. You can pull it off. It requires finess.

They're most beneficial for job interviews for positions paying $150,000 salary plus. You never want to negotiate from a position of weakness or desperation. A $16000 watch conveys you don't need the job and can walk away if they lowball. Video interviews should be done with a DSLR so the watch is clearly visible. Once you make it and can prop up the image of being even wealthier through loans, find local charity events and auctions where you can hob knob with the local bourgeoisie and then once you're in that circle opportunities will open to be in the position to make enough money to not need to work a normie job again and can afford the authentic at that point.

If you can then do it. Better than wearing cope watched like Hamilton or Tissot.

Use replicas as a status stepping stone. Get a rolex at first. Then when you're in higher circles get a Patek or a VC. Don't bother with social watches like dive watches. You look low class and stupid with a submariner. That's restaurant owner or trades guy with too much money and not enough brains and will be out of place.

Would I have a difficult time buying a basic black dial OP41 like this at a rolex AD? Or are these fairly easy to get in such a basic combination?

Also when you consider the value of what you're getting, is the OP a worthy option? Or does the rolex "entry level" truly start at the datejust and the OP, airking, and explorer are sort of the redheaded stepchildren of the lineup?

What is the right ratio of watch price to salary for men? You know how women want a diamond that’s equal to two months pay or whatever, is there a rule of thumb? >> No.18020700

Yes exactly. 200k is maybe enough to be talking about the most entry level Rolex.

I personally have been considering a vintage OP/Date or Air King, I make more than that and I feel like it’s about borderline acceptable at my income/age.

30% of annual is just retarded. You’re gonna buy a GMT or whatever with your 42k/yr job as a receptionist?

>> No.18020706

>>18020700
I'm still not seeing any reason why. Why the fuck couldn't someone making $80-100k a year buy and wear a fuckin explorer or datejust? Assuming your finances are in the right place and you already have your house secured and a year or so of emergency money built up, why the fuck not?

By your logic if I make $100k I can buy and rotate wearing 20 seikos but if I save the money up and buy one datejust I've somehow committed an imaginary sin you yourself cannot explain.
