quality caps matter a lot to me in general when it comes to presentation. wood or nice heavy metal is preferable
I don't mind minimalistic bottles, but I think the current trend for as minimal as possible square sticker generic bottles (think Dior Privee) is lame
I prefer to see some thought or theme put into bottles, like Encre Noire being based on a bottle of ink, Fahrenheit's color gradiant looking like a flame, Prada L'Homme having the saffiano leather reminiscent back etc.

mint bros, i layered beach hut dupe with 4 other mint frags. reasoning:
1. beach hut has better performance than any other mint frag i know
2. not a huge fan of olibanum+moss in beach hut, was hoping to change direction a little
here is what i layered it with:
- yosly - unfortunately it was eaten by beach hut, there was a little hint of flowers after 30 minutes but thats it really. i will retry this some other time
- menta y menta - disappeared almost immediately. i remember it was 15 minutes scent on its own but here it even weakened beach hut lol
- menthe fraiche - i was actually suprised how these 2 go well together, 3 hours later i can still smell menthe on top of beach hut and i dont sense overpowering olibanum note. recommended
- l'eau mixte - this absolutely fucks. sits on top of beach hut and tames its strongest notes nicely. the end result is a little bitter spearmint/menthol composition oriented smell for 3 hours. this combo is completely different mixture compared to menthe fraiche + beach hut. highly recommended

i will reapply these over my balm some other time to see if i can improve performance any further

Just started learning about fragrances and by coincidence found a shop very close to me that does rip-offs of well known fragrances.
everything costs the same(~ $40/100ml).

Bought a couple of 10ml containers to test and I was pretty surprised by how long I could feel the Epic Amouage rip-off on me. I quite liked it, but it seems that it's love or hate for some people and I don't want to overwhelm right now. I really liked their Eau Savage and I'm getting Savage Elixir and a few Tom Fords delivered tomorrow because I'm now balls deep in trying to find something akin to a signature.

Do you have any experience with this kind of shops?

The biggest issue I have is that at some point I would probably prefer to buy the original and I will have no idea if what I'm used to correlates in any way to the real thing, and I have no idea (yet) about what % their frags are

Also found out that I hate Yatagan(theirs at least)

I get a very nice campfire/woodland scent, slightly wet ground and trees. I don’t get a lot of obvious violet but it might be what’s giving off a kind of savoury sweetness with the incense, kinda smells like when you put sweet new wood in a fire. Don’t really get an obvious aldehyde but maybe it’s used to round out and soften what should be an acrid scent.

>>18004686
People will shit on you for it but it's a nice and cheap way to get to know scent profiles when you start.

In any case I would recommend you to check Parfum parlour instead as a clone house (40$ for 100ml seems crazy expensive for s clone house) or go for 2ml samples of the scents you wanna try , the real thing.

Let's be honest with ourselves here. Dior Homme 2020 is far superior to any of this swill.

As I uncapped the gorgeously made bottle of Dior Homme 2020, I was gently accosted by an olfactory symphony that dared to challenge the very fabric of my scent perception. This was not merely a fragrance, but a sensory expedition into the avant-garde world of scent artistry.

Dior Homme 2020 does not simply sit on the skin; it merges with the wearer, becoming an indistinguishable extension of one's persona. The top notes of bergamot and pink pepper are not merely a frivolous introduction, but a bold declaration of intent, a gustatory evocation that signals the commencement of an audacious journey.

The heart notes of patchouli and elemi unfurl like a haute couture gown on the skin, presenting an aromatic narrative that is both complex and paradoxically minimalistic. It is an ode to the modern man – strong, unapologetic, and innately elegant.

The base notes are where Dior Homme 2020 truly reveals its audacity. The synthesis of vetiver, musk, and cashmeran is nothing short of olfactory alchemy. A delicate balance of earthiness, sensuality, and warmth, it lingers on the skin, a testament to the fragrance's exceptional longevity.

Dior Homme 2020 is not simply a fragrance – it is a sensorial manifesto, a daring exploration of the boundaries of masculine fragrance. It is a challenge to the status quo, a fragrant embodiment of the modern man's evolution. For those brave enough to embark on this olfactory odyssey, it promises to be an unforgettable journey.

>Do you have any experience with this kind of shops?
yes
from insity i did not like CDG2 dupe at all, its ~85% similar but something is off with the base notes

check out senzi perfumes on allegro. they have less known frags. they are on more expensive side of things but have less slop and more niche stuff. their cherry smoke lasted whole day on me, projected easily 6 hours minimum. other shops like this have popular designer slop mostly. francuskieperfumy.pl & rosemi.pl for example.

ALWAYS return what you dont like. or buy on allegro instead and use free return.

the quality varies between the dupes and it is not necessarily the shop being bad if they have bad dupe. francuskieperfumy for example have absolutely disgusting BDC dupe, but their eau de cedre is like two times better than original in terms of projection and longevity and intensity. it literally fucks. no point of buying original.
fabrykazapachu.pl is nice too, apparently they use alcohol that is not potato-based and indeed they smelled kinda better than dupes from other stores. majority of my order (~20 frags) was fine, but their eau de nuit was 20-30 min scent. so you will always find a few bad ones everywhere
>The biggest issue I have is that at some point I would probably prefer to buy the original and I will have no idea if what I'm used to correlates in any way to the real thing, and I have no idea (yet) about what % their frags are
once you like something, look for original 1-2ml sample/decants online or go to a store to confirm (having the dupe on you or with you)

Question for the thread - What are some minor details of bottles that you love?
I put on some Bleu de Chanel this morning and was reminded how much I love magnetized caps. Only ever see it in the bigger designer brands (at least of my collection) but there’s something so satisfying about setting the cap back on the bottle and having it snap itself back into place.

I’m hooked on the first sniff. I love the creamy, body cream like smell of it.
The only complaint is it’s a little bit feminine, not in a faggy way but a “he just happens to wear his gf’s products but smells good anyway” kind of feminine.

Are there other recommendations that feel somehow less feminine, or should I just live with that feminine quality?

>> No.18004931

>>18004917
People will tell you frags don’t have genitals, which is true, but it doesn’t change the fact we associate certain smells with a specific sex.

The frag leans feminine, it just does. That doesn’t mean you can wear or enjoy it. I own a bottle, plan on wearing it this coming spring / summer.

>Frustration
>Rien (Not intense)
>Sous le Pont Mirababeau (Honestly just a filler spot)
>Fils de Dieu du Riz et des Agrumes

Rien is indistinguishable from Intense Incense to my nose.
Mirababeau smells like what I imagine straight up Calone smells like, maybe with a dash of sunscreen.
Frustration is good, but there’s something in it that’s holding it back for me. I’m not sure if it’s the rum note, but it’s something on the edge of fruity but not quite. Eh. Weird.
Then there’s this shit. I’m just gonna call it by its original name, Philippine Houseboy, this stuff perfectly encapsulates the memory of squeezing a fresh lime over a plate of Mexican dirty rice.

New to all this but im curious. What kind of shampoo/conditioner etc do you guys use if you wear frag? Does it matter, the cheap stuff like axe etc feels very stinky and i reckon it would clash quite a bit? Do i just use regular marseille soap then?

Because BDC is not a projection monster like 1 million and its flankers; invictus victory elixir, etc.
They forget that Chanel frags are crafted with "subtlety" in mind rather than gaudiness, so the wearer can be "discovered" rather than "announced".

I bought more than one hundred fragrances in the past 12 months. Most of them on the expensive side.

Sometimes I felt bad about the impulse buying and I managed to have a better relationship with it now, but I don't think it's something to worry unless it's really affecting your finances in other areas of your life.

Always when you discover a new hobby the excitement and the discovery side of it make you want to explore it throughly, I think it's natural. The shitty part of fragrances is that the only way to experience it is by expending money.

Is it generally a good idea to commit to buy a 100ml niche bottle for $150+ as your first bottle of fragrance?
I've been searching for "the one" by getting decants for the past like six months on and off, and at this point I feel like I really need to settle down. I genuinely like the fragrance, but is 100ml too much, as for example I would get bored of it rather quickly anyway?

you are trully retarded.
You like something, something that will last you well over a year, and thats assuming you do not buy any other fragrance, the investment is 150$.
If you get bored, you have your other decants, if you find something else you like, surely spending 150-250€ on something that will last you years is not a horrible invesetment either.

I have a bunch of old frags that I almost never use. How do you guys sell or trade frags? I'd like to have more frags but the fact that I have 30 bottles already is what's preventing me from making any purchases. Should I just give them away? Got decants of Bon Monsieur and Masculin Pluriel this week:

>Bon Monsieur
Yup it’s literally just better quality drakkar noir. More cinammon-y carnation heart, lot less dihydromyrcenol. I only tried this on my arm about 3 hours before going to sleep, couldn’t really smell anything besides a little musk when I woke up. Will have to give a full wear at some point

>Masculin Pluriel
This one however was not what I was expecting. Don’t know why people keep comparing it so closely to At the Barber’s because it’s way off imo, the way the patchouli(/oud?) combines with the lavender puts it in a whole either ballpark. (I don’t have much experience with the note desu but from what I’ve smelled the effect reminds me of Oud Silk Mood and Gucci Guilty EDP.) Anyways I really dig this one. Gave it a full wear, it dries down to a kind of nutty vetiver/musk, lasted all day on me. This joins DH2020 in the ranks of “I could probably sell all my other fragrances and just keep this one”, I find it less heavy/more airy than Homme, so maybe more amenable to summer heat even with less overt citrus. Of course, and not to be a reformulationfag, it sounds like there’s been a change in production—this decant is from the “grey juice” while more recent releases are yellow, which along with price makes a full bottle an even less attractive option, but maybe I come back to it in the long term

Do you like barbershop fougeres? When Drakkar Noir came out in ‘83, I think the genre really came into its own, commercially and artistically. In 2014, Francis Kurkdijan released Masculin Pluriel, his most accomplished work. The whole composition has a sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the notes a big boost. It’s been compared to At the Barber’s, but I think it has a much more bitter, cynical sense of smoothness.

it's Alberto Morillas' rendition of Terre d' Hermes. It would say it's a slightly lighter version of the EdT. People online write about GGuilty Absolu or TdH Vetiver but I think it's most close to the original TdHermes. It's a nice clean earthy scent. Alberto Morillas makes very well balanced, lively, spiced fragrances. This is definitely one of those.
