Anyone else sign up for this? Anyone get selected? Would you blind buy?

Manuel Cross Chypre Noir For American Perfumer 1/75 limited edition signed bottles image courtesy of American Perfumer©

Indeed, Manuel Cross Chypre Noir For American Perfumer possesses a beautiful bone structure, and a lineage which is readily traceable to the greats of yore: vintage Cabochard de Gres, created by Bernard Chant in 1959 (musks, leather, oakmoss), and Germaine Cellier’s vintage Balmain Jolie Madame, 1953 (artemisia, tuberose, musk, oakmoss, leather). Both fragrances are growlingly animalic – but they utilize civet and/or castoreum in the process, whereas Manuel has chosen costus root – a potent vegetal musk which smells divinely of the unwashed scalp of the beloved. Once you become acquainted with costus, you will always remember it; it imparts an additional leatheriness that we associate with other musks, and it can help anchor a scent – so it performs double duty in Chypre Noir. Indolic, enchanting tuberose maintains its lustre here, never fading into the background (in the afore-mentioned leather chypres, one finds jasmine, ylang-ylang, and gardenia instead). Bitter herbs enhance its sophistication without the use of galbanum; while not listed, artemisia comes to mind immediately. Musk ketone is sweetly fatty and persistent, contributing a rondeur which is so appealingly reminiscent of great chypres; it feels as if the perfumer has not stinted on the oakmoss, either – always such a delight: earthy, shadowy, and rich.

Notes: herbs, tuberose, musk ketone, costus, oakmoss, leather

When talking about which season/s a fragrance is best suited for, spring and summer shouldn't be paired up. Instead spring and autumn should be paired up because they are closest in terms of average temperature. Spring ranges from cold early on to hot right before summer. And autumn is the other way around, starts out hot and ends cold. The seasons should be split as such:

Summer - Spring&Autumn - Winter

Upon opening it was powerful and aromatic, it wasn't actually cold but it triggered the same feeling your nose get when you breathe in cold air. I'm not too keen on what ozonic notes exactly smell like but the smell was definitely a cool and clean scent.

The drydown went into a kinda soapy, almost aldehyde like scent mixed with a smooth woodyness and juniper. Not the strong smoky woodiness in a lot of male scents, it's a smooth kinda leathery drydown (the suede and labdanum probably helpes that) mixed with fresh laundry air. If you take a big whiff it still tickles the nose like breathing in cold air even on the drydown.

Overall it's a nice winter scent and it's invigorating in the way a cold glass of water is but I don't know if it I would buy a full bottle simply because a full spray would have me sneezing from the ice and ozone scent. The drydown is more manageable but I'd have to wait and put up with an itchy nose until then.

Longetivity is all right, it's already been a few hours and the drydown smells the same, that puts it above a few other EDPs that don't go above 2 hours

$175 for 60ml is kinda up there for me but eh it's niche and worth differs from person to person

They all suck to my nose, I can't believe they are all worth $200, none of them smell like it

L'Immensité is the most original one I guess
Imagination smells very feminine and bland like shampoo, Afternoon Swim smells cheap as fuck and Hacivat is just straight up disgusting, I'm not even kidding it smells like fresh chicken in supermarkets

$30 sample and it's all garbage, I thought I'd get something similar to G&B Ingenious Ginger which I found a bit too feminine to my taste, but IG smelled absolutely amazing. These 4 however, wouldn't recommend to anyone given the price

Got a few Orto Parisi and Nasomatto samples to see what Gualtieri is all about.
Baraonda - realistic whisky note in the opening, turns into a musky, dirty rose. Don't know how else to describe it. Pretty fucking good.
Pardon - Opens like a barbershop frag and then the oud gets stronger. Opening reminds me of Invasion Barbare and the rest like a higher quality Oud Wood. Also pretty good.
Cuoium - Very, very smoky leather. Reminds me of how my dad smelled after coming back from the factory with sweat, cigarette smoke, and his leather jacket scent. Very nostalgic to me and I love it on my skin.
Terroni - Can only describe this as a fancy boardroom where every furniture is made of heritage wood, mixed with the smell of wine. Delicious.
Megamare - Smells like the sea, salty water, sweat again, like if you spent the entire day at the beach surfing. One spray is enough, fills a room, and it will last the entire day + showers. Powerful stuff.

Digital fragrance advertising should be illegal, just like food ads should. These things are not something to be seen. You smell and taste them. You're not going to become homo if you wear Robert Pattinson.
Fragrance influencers are a bit better because they actually describe the fragrance.
Actually, imo, all advertising should be banned

If you pay attention you will realize they dont actually usually describe the fragrance.
They might list a note or two but they usually go "Oh it smells dark manly fresh." Or something along those lines without even describing the evolution of the fragrance notes as it progresses.

perfume ads can be pretty fun. they can have artistic value and at least they're honest about their nature as advertisment
compare that to stealth marketing by fragrance influencers, where the idea is to trick you this is the guy's actual unbiased opinion... now that's despicable. do you really prefer some paid off guy telling you that PdM is a top 10 pantydropper over the nice ads below?

most of the fragrantica commenters are morons. the best place to look is a trusted reviewer who's not just a grifter doing "top 10 fragrancers I was paid the most to shill" lists. to name some examples: the gay dragon from Basenotes, Luca Turin, and a few lesser known youtubers like Ramsey, Wafts from the loft or MrSmelly
unfortunately you have to wade through tons of generic shills, but there are some fragrance reviewers worth listening to online

I mean you really are limiting yourself to what fragrances you can try if you do this.
>No way I'm paying for testers and transport, it's just too expensive.
Yeah, it can be, but its less expensive than buying something and not knowing. Lots of samples are in the 3-5 dollar range, and its very very difficult to find certain Niche houses perfumes even when you are using the internet to find samples.
The best way to not spend shit tons of money is compiling a list of like 10-20 frags you want to try and order them all at once from the same site so you dont have to constantly pay like 5-12 for shipping.

Help me anons I'm getting desperate. I recently got a bar of pic related as a gift. It smells incredible - Smooth, floral, botanical, dry. Exactly how lavender smells when I pull it our of my garden.

I want a cologne that does the same but everything I've found either blends it with 50+ other scents or combines it with a massive heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream smell.

Please help me find a frag that just appreciates the beautify of this plant without trying to turn it into a fucking desert. I'm desperate. This plant smells so complex and lovely on its own, I figured this would be an easy find.

Chris Collins African Rooibos

To answer your question directly: Yes, it smells like tea to me, specifically the spicy teas that use a lot of cardamom and cinnamon. The opening is moderately sweet and spicy with bergamot and cardamom.

On the drydown is when it transitions from a sweet aromatic acent to a more smoky, spicy scent. Of note is the orris that gives it a very, incredibly light but noticeable powderness that makes it feel like you dove your hand into a bag of dried tea leaves.

Longetivity is good, maybe slighlty above average. It's been 5 hours and I went outside with a parka and I can still smell it on me.

I would totally buy a full bottle of this, it's a sweet peppery herbal that slowly tones down into an smoky, comforting warm spicy. Only issue is the price ($175 for 50ml niche frags istg)
