Hallo!

>> No.17990920

>>17990918
Could be worse. Many perpetual calendar movements have no way of going backwards, so if you accidentally advance the year, the only way it's getting corrected is by your watchmaker.

IIRC, I think Hublot actually designed a perpetual calendar movement where you could go backwards.

>> No.17990923

Yeah. Ulysse Nardin has one and IWC does as well. I'm sure there are others out there too.

>> No.17990924

>>17990920
Damn that is unfortunate, hopefully i didnt fuck it up. The month wasnt advancing on the first every time i went round it seemed to get later and later it would advance, hopefully that was just when setting it. Would be a shame if i have to go back after just having paid $200 to get it fixed.

>> No.17990925

>>17990918
and this is one reason I don't recommend moon phases to people. Even with a streamlined version with a pusher on the side it is still a pain to set (ready to break out your manual showing the exact state of the moon for this exact date, advance it to the full moon, then advance it X amount of times to reach the correct phase?)

>> No.17990927

>>17990924
>The month wasnt advancing on the first every time i went round it seemed to get later and later it would advance
The moon's phases are only 29.5 days, so they will gradually fall out of sync with the month.

It's just a different sized gear wheel. Just like the hour wheel takes 60 minutes to do a lap. The pointer date wheel takes 31 days.

Either way, though, cool watch.

>> No.17990952

>>17990933
Some do a jump every day like the date and have a gear with 59 teeth, often paired with a pusher on the left side of the watch. Some (or most?) modern watches do that, so you only need to use the pusher once every 60 days to catch the misaligning.

Do it. The Hublot is based.

You can always get another GS if you miss it. But if you're thinking about getting rid of it at all, that's a sign you're already bored with it. When you think "Oh, but I'll miss it." you're reminiscing back to when your GS was new and you loved it.

Don't bother. Also ranges with ovens are out. You need a range top and oven separate, preferably a steam oven and a regular one.

i also saw one on the arm of a man in breckenridge while i was having breakfast before i drove to denver airport, and i saw the same man there also. wierd coincidence. I think he might have been a homosexual because there was another younger man with him. It was a gold hublot, so pretty pricey, im not sure why you would spend that $$ on a fake brand watch.

im pretty preturbed by the whole gold watch pricing scheme anyway, i know how much gold costs, and there is not the markups worth of gold in a 18k gold case to really justify the 20k+ entry price for anything gold

Thoughts on Sinn 104? Want to get my first mechanical watch after graduating, and I plan to keep it for decades. Would be in use anywhere from hiking and fishing to the office. I've got another watch for dressier occasions, but I think the Sinn is versatile too.

If you wanted an "only" watch, I'd say the 556 would be the safer Sinn, but since you already have a dress watch, then the 104 is a good choice.

Is there any specific dial config you like? Black, blue, white? Stick indices vs numerals?

Reposting from last thread.
I'm a heavy diesel mechanic. What's a nice stainless steel (inc. bracelet) automatic watch I could beat the shit out of at work and at home and just wear to death? The dream is a nice plain Explorer one day but I'm not knowledgeable and would love to hear other options in that range or cheaper. Think some of the polished bezel Black Bays and the Omega Aqua Terra are nice too.

If you're looking for other semi-dressy, sports-style watches,
You've already identified the big ones, but I can think of a couple
- the Bell and Ross V1-92
- the Sinn 556

>I think it's AR coating is on the outside, do you think it would be a problem in the long run? I suppose it can be retouched?

AR coating CAN scratch but it's tougher than you think. I've had a Planet Ocean for over ten years that I've beat to hell. I've ruined bezel inserts but I've yet to scratch the AR coating.

If it does scratch, I don't think it can be retouched. Lots of people also just say 'fuck it' and remove the coating. It can be polished off fairly easily with some Polywatch, a rag, and some elbow grease or a rotary tool.

Without knowing the specifics of the watch you're looking at, it's hard to say. A good mid-80s ref. 16013 is a great watch.
But we're also talking about a watch that's close to 40 years old and can have a spotty history which can turn a great watch into a piece of trash.

You'll want to have the boxes and papers.
You'll want to look at the service history. Independent watchmakers don't always use Rolex parts, since generic crystals and gaskets fit. It sounds hypocritical, since I send my watches to an independent watchmaker, but I won't buy a watch that isn't serviced by the factory.
You'll definitely want to get a look at the bracelet, since that generation of bracelets was prone to stretching.

The good thing, though, is that it's a very common model, so you can hold out for a good example instead of pouncing on the first, cheapest one you come across.

I actually think citizen makes bulova worse than it can be so stupid gaijin wathces don't sell better than emperor blessed timepieces.
Otherwise i can't explain literally retarded mistakes in design of almost all of their models and almost criminal mistakes in their best money maker, the lunar pilot.
It is just beyond me how first they made it even bigger then the original, worn on a fucking space suit in space, now it is still too big and both their bracelet and leather strap are ugly as sin and the biggest problem is the caliber. I am fine with it being quartz, its a good movement. But what in actual fuck must be happening in your brain if you think right i have this excelent quartz movement that has smooth sweeping of a second hand just like on a mechanical watch, so i don't i make that you can't fucking see it unles using a chronograph. So is so fucking retarded on so many levels this is basically the only reason i am not buying the lunar pilot.

Opinions on the Kuoe watched?
I'm a wristlet and 35mm seems fine. But it might be more pricey than it's worth and the polished case will catch scratches quick

It's really fucking sad. The lunar pilot could be what those pieces of shit and and plastic moonswatches pretended to be - a nice, budget friendly and actually solid middle ground for dopes who couldn't afford a Sneedy.
