Let me take you on a journey, friend. You’re on vacation in San Francisco, you return to your hotel but have forgotten your room number. You walk into the room of another guest by mistake. Immediately upon entering, you notice that a bunch of sweaty men are fucking on a bed shaped like a giant martini glass covered with sequins. YMCA is playing on a loop on the room’s sound system, a disco ball hangs from the ceiling, a large TV displays episodes of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Jeremy Fragrance is sitting on a chair in the corner sipping a shirley temple.

Ultra Male is gayer than that room.

if you enjoy them thats great, but classic acqua di gio is utterly castrated novadays, allure home sport fits the same occasions that acqua di gio would but is an even more castrated fragrance.
Eros is sweet, youthful and overplayed since it has a history of being babies first "clubbing" scent, i.e 15 year old gets his first fragrance, and tries to go clubbing absolutely drenched in eros, but maybe it's less popular now, and the edp version is not as loud.
The one edt is so fucking watered down, genuinly praise God if it lasts more than 4 hours on your skin, it's considered a "date night" fragrance but it just doesn't perform, no projection, no lasting power, and it frankly smells boring, smudge of tobacco with a hint of amber.

So far I've tried Vancleef & Arpels Rose Rouge but it's a bit heavy and cloying for me, I've also tried Diptyque Eau Rose which I can get behind but I'm open to more suggestions.

sure.
I will pick stuff that I would chose if I were just starting now and a few wildcards:
Bois Impérial Essential Parfums, very unique take on woods with vetiver, it's quite bitter and dry would be my choice for spring / summer, I would categorize it as a work horse for everyday wear, a modern classic.
Etruscan Water Francesca Bianchi, fragrance with a ton of depth and complexity, herbs and oakmoss with a base of musks, labdanum and a tinge of salt from the ambergris. Spring / summer / autumn, very masculine can be more challenging for some due to animalic undertones, perfect for summer nights.
Jazz Club Maison Martin Margiela, very light tobacco smells like unblended golden virginia, sweet boozy undertones with some woody accents, the scent doesn't really evolve, but it's VERY pleasant and cozy, quite popular with zoomers into fashion, others might prefer By the fire place from the same house, both have similiar concept of a "cozy winter scent" by the firce place has a lot more edge though and seems to be more polarizing.
Black Orchid Tom Ford, dark and rich, a wall of compressed flowers layered with honey and dark cocoa, has real depth to it, incredibly unique and heavy, winter and autumn.
Gentleman Eau de Parfum Reserve Privée Givenchy, iris and booze, airy and powdery, a good fragrance to test if you enjoy iris perfumes, a great choice for spring, autumn and winter.
Le Male Le Parfum Jean Paul Gaultier, a classis - lavender, cardamon and vanilla, has some depth, has some sweetness, tried and true people pleaser for colder months.
Dior Homme Parfum, iris, leather and sandalwood A LOT of depth to it, incredible for dates in the colder months if you enjoy iris.
Eau Duelle Eau de Parfum Diptyque, dry and woody vanilla with red pepper, has a lot of depth to it, very unique. If you like vanilla, and are looking for something versatile, its worth checking out.
Vanagloria Laboratorio Olfattivo, green and smokey vanilla, fit for colder months.

This question coming from someone who doesn’t care for animalics, and didn’t even realize that musk is apparently a… like, light creamy, powdery kind of scent(?). Getting that from Musc Ravageur, the only thing I think I’ve smelled with it in there as a large chunk of the notes.

So far I’ve only tried… 4-5? and only paid close attention to the opening, 15-30 min.
Been meaning to pick up a sweet gourmand, so the fact he sent me 2 Gingerbread samples seemed like a sign and I sampled it first, and it’s exactly what you’d think.
Buttery, pleasantly sweet smell like you just walked into a pastry shop.
Tried the coffee tabac next since it’s unreleased, neither of which are my forte btw.
The opening was unpleasant and strong, couldn’t quite place it, perhaps tobacco but not sure. After a couple minutes it calmed down and mixed together well. I’m bad at placing notes if I don’t know what I’m looking for but I did find myself drawn back to it and always enjoyed it.
I tried… Bindebole? next I think, and the sprayer wasn’t working well. Finally got some out but don’t recall the smell.
I’m normally pretty opposed to fruity scents but I tried the Glühwein next and it was fantastic. The raspberry came straight through and was perfect. Nice sweet fruity smell.
Last was Hayride, photorealistic smell of walking into a clean hay barn. You could tell in the background there was some sweetness, but it was still faint in the opening with the hay taking center stage. Perhaps in the heart or dry down.

Current (still VERY unfinished) thoughts on Pineward as a whole, I’m getting a cross between a Rogue Perfumery little brother vibe and old timer making moonshine in the hills ‘ye olden way like his grandpappy showed him vibe.
He wants to make frags, make them natural, and they’re good, but they don’t have the polish and sophistication of designer houses, or most good niche houses. That could also just be the nature of
>theyre frags to smell like fucking trees
so take that with a grain of salt.
He’s definitely a bit of an amateur, but by no means “donkey piss and geraniums in a spray bottle” amateur. And I may have just gotten unlucky, but the fact that one of my first 5 samples had a serious issue with the sprayer is concerning, so wish he’d get some better atomizers.

I’m pretty sure I’m gonna like several, if not a lot of his frags, and I’ll buy -at least- one both out of pure enjoyment of the frag, but also to support him as a businessman and see it grow and thrive.

>How would you describe Civet, and how would you describe Hyrax?
nta but the reason you don't see hyraceum (that's the material, hyrax is the animal) often is because it's a bit poopy. and zoologist fragrances aren't proper representations, they're abstract.
i'm most familiar with natural castoreum. it's an earthy, warm-leathery smell with a very distinct animal note to it. civet is a bit more pungent/pissy. la via del profumo sells tinctures of all three.

Try L'Ombre Dans L'Eau by Diptyque. A little over your budget I think; but it's a gorgeous, very earthy fresh rose. Diptyque in general has many very realistic floral scents. You might also try Do Son, that one's more tuberose-oriented.
Also not to shit on the other guy but I have a bottle of D'un Soir, it smells incredibly synthetic to me. Not to say it's terrible, and you can definitely pick up the rose in it, but I don't think it smells much like freshly-picked flowers at all.

It's a shame Sacred Memory is discontinued. It's kinda what I imagined By The Fireside would be like if it was good. Seems like a crowd-pleaser, but its notes are very distinct, and emerge separately as you wear it. Has anyone tried Lattafa's Ana Abiyedh Leather, and would care to share their opinion? I read that it's supposed to be a clone of Irish Leather. It's piqued my curiosity for some reason, a lot of people really seem to hate it. One youtube review I watched remarked that the only reason he keeps the bottle around is to mask the smell of cat piss when he cleans up after his cat. I think I'm mostly curious because I've yet to dip my toes into Arab frag piracy. I considered looking into Asad as well, but decided against it as I'm in no need of another bottle of Sauvage.

Tested pic rel it was very nice. More masculine leaning rather than unisex IMO but it's pretty expensive. Going to blind buy the arab dupe hopefully I don't get scammed.

Stuff like:
Lapidus Pour Homme Black Extreme
One Man Show Gold Edition Jacques Bogart
Chypre-Siam Rogue Perfumery
Bon Monsieur Rogue Perfumery
One Man Show Ruby Edition Jacques Bogart.
If you are just looking for woody x spicy perfumes that don't lean too masculine check out:
By the Fireplace Maison Martin Margiela
L’Enfant Terrible Jovoy Paris
Kenzo Jungle Homme
Vanhera Laboratorio Olfattivo
Eau Duelle Diptyque
Anyway, never post that disgusting porker again here.

True, EDT Philosykos smells way better because it doesn’t have fucking coconut dropped in it.

Finally got The Goods from Bloom. First one I tried was Vi et Armis, smells like somebody soaked lapsing souchong into a leather jacket nobody had worn in 20 years inside an antique shop. And a tiny bit of whiskey.

you know that the fig and coconut accords are constructed from the same exact aroma chemicals

>> No.17979229

>>17979227
Yes, but you can’t smell the coconut in the EDT, probably because it’s less concentrated.

true, it is more green and vegetal. However ever since I've tried athenean from heeley no other green fig does it for me.
