Not WORST notes but notes that I've come to heavily dislike in frags that most people DON'T bitch about:

Amberwood: smells way too fruity/woody like an whiskey barrel to me. Also I seem to be partially noseblind to it as most frags that have it smell half-transparent to me.

Ambergris: This smells harsh, sharp, and I don't like it's animalic touch. PASS!

They bear very little resemblance to each other, almost none at all to my nose. EN is extremely synthetic-smelling and very forward on the vetiver. Hwyl is spicier, warmer. Incense plays a big part in the opening. There's vetiver present towards the drydown but it doesn't focus on it nearly as much as EN does. Hwyl smells much more natural as a whole.

Great, I've heard some people call it grand-dad juice, but people are allowed to be retarded.

> Azzaro Pour Homme
Classic, but a bit too sweet. would've liked the caraway and iris to be replaced with something else. Decent choice but I wouldn't reach for it on a daily basis.

It's undeniably smoky, but not overly smoky. There's also vanilla, and smoke + vanilla reminds me of LADDM but Blackmail's fruitiness sets it apart. It's distinctive but not obnoxious. Might be usable in public.

Long story slightly shorter, I bought a bottle online directly from V&R, it was shit performance and longevity confirmed by multiple people other than myself.
I got them to send me a free replacement, it was still shit.
I got them to send me a third replacement, it was shit a third time, and so finally I shipped them back the original bottle, got my money back, and ended up with 2 useless bottles of SBE that have the performance of an aftershave (albeit for free).
I would have rather just gotten a bottle when it was first released that had the original nuclear sillage and crazy longevity.

Rogue made his entire brand on one marketing gimmick; i.e. convincing people that "IFRA BAD, FUCK IFRA". Meanwhile, when a few years ago he had tested his fragrances, they all could easily pass the IFRA regulations and he had to eat his words and admit that he was just clueless. He even doesn't have that big concentrations of oakmoss: Kaszebschi Mech blows all the Rogue oakmoss things out of the water. The guy from Perfumecraft actually went on a fight with IFRA and tested the system and their limits for restricting ingredients, which resulted in IFRA pushing back the restrictions on oakmoss for Kaszebschi Mech substantially, from what I remember from his blog. Meanwhile, Manuel from Rogue just assumed that he must be a badboy of the industry, but couldn't be even arsed to check the regulations.
Prin has some excellent releases, but his strategy of (re)releasing 10s of fragrances each year under 3 different brands just to score points for novelty may also be called dubious. That's the same strategy that Guerlain has used over the last few years by spamming releases and flankers to milk consumers prone to new releases hype. He probably doesn't use many other marketing gimmicks only because his English is a limiting factor there.

I agree with your points despite owning a few ALD bottles including the full set for the latest release that I paid $1600 for. This doesn't change that most of his fragrances are very high quality and unique (I agree that he's not a particularly talented perfumer but rather an expert distiller) and I was fine with paying for it. Rogue has merit in its criticism of ifra. Ifra is a committee of the perfume industry that uses Jewish means to use less expensive synthetics instead of more expensive natural materials. He has three lines, his most experimental and gimmicky one called strangers parfumerie, making perfumes for certain characters from movies he loves (he studied cinema as a career before starting making perfumes ) or just some weird experiments. Most of them are a miss for me, but he has some good ones like Burning Ben, and some others are really just prin being playful. It's the cheapest of his lines with the prices being around 85 euros for 30 ml.

Prissana is his oriental line , prices ranging from 140-160 per 30 ml and Prin is his mainline, using the highest quality materials he can find and prices range from 160 to 400+ euros per 30 ml.

I won’t claim to be super knowledgeable about CDG or what’s well known to the public, but I believe what you said is correct. Anything that isn’t available in a Macy’s or Sephora is already a bit down the rabbit hole for the general public.
Purely for perspectives sake, you have to keep in mind that Hermes, a commonplace designer house in the EU, is essentially a niche brand in the US (At least where I live) because it’s just not stocked. There’s like one tiny “artisan” clothing store near me that carries a few of their high profile frags, no where else in quite a long ways.
L’Occitane is the same way. I can’t get their frags -anywhere- near me, and only 2 stores in ~50 miles even carry some of their skincare products.

Yeah it's weird to think about it. I just sniffed Bel Ami Vetiver at the nearest chain store that doesn't carry a single niche brand. And there's a l'occitane store in that same mall.
The US fragrance market has some big differences fro EU for sure.

Specifically from what you listed? In order:
Essential Parfums
Beaufort London
Nicolai (although I personally have never tried it)
Imaginary Authors (Also not tried)
Serge Lutens (Listed last only because I have the least experience with the house in general)
>Paying for a trip the the mall to get free decants/samples
ELDO

As you have said, EP is easily best bang for buck. BFL has high quality stuff but generally speaking you’ll either love it or hate it, and ~3 of their frags are SUPER hit or miss imo (Tonnerre, Lignum Vitae, and Vi Et Armis to my nose)

I -was- a big proponent of ELDO for newbies prior to a recent experience, but now I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.
They give you a discount code with the discovery set which -seems- like a great deal. But then when you go to use it, it drops the price of a 50ml bottle below $100 so you have to pay for shipping, or spend a bunch of extra money on a 100ml (don’t do it).
What really pissed me off though is if you add in a 4piece discovery set on top of your discounted 50ml bottle, to bump the price up over $100 and get free shipping back, they will remove your discount code at checkout because “Discount codes can’t be applied to discovery sets or sample kits.”
So if you REALLY want a bottle (to use your discount code) and another sample kit, say to try something that wasn’t in your original discovery set, you’re forced to purchase them separately and pay for shipping twice.
>Fuck you ELDO
>Yes I’m mad.

I haven’t even read many of the pages yet, but reading about the evolution/progression of some of the synthetic chemicals is fascinating. AdParma on the whole is not worth it. The blue Mediterranean line is full of scents done better by others (get the discovery sampler to try) and the colonial variants are mostly outdated/bad. The only wearable one is intensa and I don't really wear that one either because there are better ones in my collection. Why were intensa if I could wear Eau Savage Parfum or Beau de Jour or At the Barbershop.

How do you guys like Zoologist as a house? I'm still pretty new to fragrances but wanted to jump into weird stuff and been sampling a lot of their perfumes over the last couple months and landed on a handful I really like. In love with Sacred Scarab right now. I've definitely narrowed my general taste down a bit and find myself really gravitating towards chypres but not sure if I'm just finding Scarab novel and interesting to my baby nose. There's just something intoxicating about it.

>EdT
Lighter, crisper, much more emphasis on the hot slate/stone. More conceptual/less natural. I think this one is easier to wear. It's less dense citrus so it's more adaptable to any situation, and because it's "confusing" it can be worn in any season.

>Parfum (it's not EdP)
the stone is much further back while the citrus mixed with woody mossy note is brought right up. More juicy/natural like a classical scent with a bright citrus right up front. many say this is the better version (i disagree, but I get it.) This one is more naturally focused so it's likely worn spring and fall. I don't think this works in winter, and may become cloying in summer.

TdH, like H24 is quite hard to describe because the 'effect' is so cool and unexpected.

it's bad. it's harshy sweet cake. I can tell why 22 year old girls and boys like it, but anyone else should point out how they're going to get a headache.
