How hard is it really to buy a Rolex gmt from a Rolex boutique in 2024? Have wanted a Pepsi for a long time and at a point in life where I can afford one comfortably (at MSRP). Is it possible to walk into the store, and put my name down on a list and get a phone call within 6-8 months for the watch I want or am I really gonna have to go in and buy a bunch of bullshit I don't want and suck the salesman's cock from behind.

I don't mind having to make the small talk routine to prove I'm not a spaz or a flipper but I'm not spending money on shit I don't want.

Don't know the procedure in the states but here in Europe it works like this. The wait time also dropped compared to previous years and getting a rolly isn't so hard anymore, if you can handle a wait time of several months. I even heard a story from a guy who claimed he walked into a boutique and could buy one right out of the tresor but honestly I think he was larping.

Yes, it's true, although these watches seem to me to be the best Rolex watches in the current catalogue, except for the Air King which is horrible.

I've never tried to buy a Submariner or a GMT, although the Coke is rumored to be back this year, I always liked this color combination.

In any case, if it is impossible to buy a GMT or a Daytona, what should it be like to buy a AP Royal Oak Jumbo...?

It's personal preference since they're all pretty similar. My favorite Calatrava in the current catalog is the 5227 but in my opinion it is too large for what it is at 39mm. I would buy a neo-vintage model that is 36mm. I do like the 5196 but hate the small seconds too close to the center of the dial. 6119s are nice but again 39mm and the movement architecture leaves something to be desired. It does not compare favorably at all to comparably priced watches from Vacheron, Breguet, and ALS.

you summarized my findings to the point. i am really uninspired by the current calatrava lineup. only the 5227 and 6119 have a resemblance to a true dress watch and both are way too big at 39mm. i just about got used to the 38mm of my 5296 rep, but still would have preferred smaller. besides, the 5227 is just not "calatrava enough" while the 6119 is too much so, if that makes sense. certainly at their current prices, they don't interest me.
i am heavilly leaning towards the 5196 as you mentioned, but the highup sub-seconds will keep reminding me of the small movement. not something i'd want in my holy trinity peace. also, i think i would miss the date from the 5296.
3919 or 5119 are also in the run-up, but if only one patek, might as well be a 96 sucessor, right?
anyone know how often these watches would require a service? how long does it take and how much does it cost?

Anyone use watches as a statement piece?

I currently wear Air Force 1s + normal clothes to the office. The 1s are my "statement piece" to give my outfit some personality and casualness.
>pic rel something resembling my outfit

It probably looks too juvenile and I want to try something more adult like a watch. Rather than a dress watch, I want something with color. I don't like divers or square watches. It still has to be subdued because I'm wearing it to the office, so nothing gold, flashy, too dressy, expensive looking, etc.

Some examples are
>Studio Underd0g watches
>Mr. Jones 67-S8 Colour Venn
>Galo novo

Anything else you think might be my style?

So few people wear watches anymore that likely nobody will notice you wearing a watch, real or not

So if you actually value the piece you're wearing (like you save up for a datejust or something), why not buy the real thing instead of some junker that you know is a piece of garbage? It becomes something you can hold onto forever

1. It’s just a watch, not the Crown Jewels. Like you say, no one really cares. It’s just an accessory.
2. It’s also a decent watch. Bracelet identical to an Oyster in material, appearance, and functionality. Case, the same. Lume actually lasts longer than gen. Sapphire crystal. Then, after regulating it and changing the gaskets also performs to Rolex’s -2/+2 spd standard and 100m WR.

What’s really the difference? Except I didn’t have to wait for “the call” after fellating the AD.

There are arguments for both sides. I personally would (probably) never buy a fake watch because you really only have two options when confronted about it. You LIE and tell them it's real or you tell them instantly that it is a replica. If you lie to them, and it's the first impression, then you quite literally started a new aquaintance with lying, and then you have to keep this facade going for months or even years until it's too far gone.
