Fellow fragfags, please rate my collection honestly. I know they're probably lame and GAY. The ones I used to have were either blehh or just OK but not worth keeping in my opinion. Don't be too mean or else I'll shrivel up like a nutsack in winter. :)

I decanted a bit of it before I sold it lemme check.

OK, it's opening is really nice and sweet. Smells like a sweet, creamy blood orange creamsicle. Lots of vanilla. Very airy and fresh considering it's sweetness. I liked it a lot but every time I wore it, when it dried down an hour or so into its life, the patchouli came through and gives it this really dirty earthiness that doesn't mesh well with an otherwise creamsicle-like scent. Also performance was maybe 6/10. Maybe I just went noseblind to it easily.

Sad, because I liked it as a warmer-weather compadre to my Polo Red Extreme which I LOVE.

>Out of curiosity, why?
Rien by Etat Libre d’Orange (2006) is quite a fragrance, make no mistake about that. Antoine Lie has sought (or been told to seek by ELDO) a successor to the mighty Kouros by Yves Saint Laurent (1981), which in spite of its qualities even in most recently-produced form, isn’t the sex-dripped raunch beast of those initial bottles (for better or worse). Rien seems to reinstate that, going full throttle on incense, leather, animalic musk, cumin funk, and labdanum, divorcing the soapy fougère of Kouros from the rest. In essence, this isn’t so much a copy or continuation of that Pierre Bourdon-penned DNA, it’s an evolution. If you’re not on board with that, turn back now, as there is absolutely no quarter given to the non-believers in this church, evidently. Am I surprised? Not really. Etat Libre d’Orange as it stands, is heavily subversive, dripped in LGBT culture, and ironic, so a scent like Rien is almost a given. Most folks wearing this will probably not get the joke of this scent being called “of nothing” in French.

The opening is brash aldehydes of that old Chanel No. 5 (1921) quality, sour and nose-singing like your grandma’s favorite purse spray. The late Divine could have worn this comfortably. The rest moves into bergamot as expected, with iris ionones and rose in the heart, flavored with pepper and cumin. The funk is noticeable right away, as the leather and animalis notes (not civet) take over immediately, although this is a drier funk than something like Kouros or even Furyo by Bogart (1988). Styrax, patchouli, frankincense, amber, and oakmoss bring up the rear, going full-chypre with labdanum and a woody nuance at the end. Animalics do tone down considerably in late phases, and Rien becomes more of a dry chypre incense experience. Performance is otherworldly, so go easy on the sprays, and this scent profile can even be a little overbearing with light application if worn in the wrong weather, especially high humidity. Do as thou wilt though, but harm none. For me, this reads masculine, although officially Rien is a shared fragrance gender-wise. For me, this is a lovely kick to the face I’d wear anytime, fight me.

>Us
is very smoky from the Cade oil and resin, definitely evokes a comfy close caveman dwelling. It’s a bit peppery and animalic too, little sharp from geranium and whisper of florals, overall really nice.
>Them
is in the same wheelhouse as The Ghost In The Shell, which is fitting as it’s weird and wants to evoke the distant future. Opening is briefly carroty (lol) then it turns into a dry white wine and kinda sharp wood. Really interesting scents.

I’ll try light and dark after my shower.

Mostly because I can't find it in person no matter where I look, though it's very possible that I've gotten it mixed up with some other frag.

Maybe I should be asking a different question. Out of the different frags that I own, a few among them are Grey Vetiver, Pour Un Homme de Caron, Cool Water, Yatagan, Tuscany Per Uomo, Drakkar Noir and Kouros. Is Eau Sauvage parfum similar enough to any of these that it would be redundant to own a bottle?

Honestly, though Legend EDP smells more “refined” and thicker/fuller, it strips the scent of the EDT’s fruity airiness up front. The EDP smells kind of dull to me. It just smells a bit woodier and less fizzy. Also my bottle of EDP (1.7 oz) was larger than the EDT (1.0 oz) and it was worth it yo get rid of it, meanwhile the EDT was just small enough to fit into my glovebox as an absolute backup scent.

As for Missoni parfum, it was a nice, subtle scent with a citrus/ginger/woody thing going on. Definitely inspired by Bleu de Chanel, but a bit more synthetic smelling. Not bad but I was partially noseblind to it, and it was just kinda redundant with my other blue scents. Missoni wave was just a bit more unique to me as it was a nice creamy summery citrus. Not as sour and thin as Versace Pour Homme and much cheaper than Allure Homme Sport.

I’ve never tried Tres fraiche but I actually like intense vetiver the most. Smells grassy, denser than EDT, but still sharp. Weirdly if i had to ascribe a color to it, in my mind it would be purple for some reason.

I don’t really care for the original all that much, its very dirty orange snd just smells kinda musty. Funny enough, intense vetiver is cleaner smelling imo.

I hate Eau Givree. I want to like it, and sometimes my nose catches that crisp grapefruit atop a lightened up TDH DNA, but most of the time it just comes together to smell like sharp, astringent celery to me.

For the anon who wanted to know last thread, these are my thoughts on the Neanderthal sample box.

>Us
Super smoky, very dominant, aromatic. Spices and just a hint of damp florals, very ‘Caveman’ without going too far into Prin territory and probably the most interesting one. Sticks around a long time, around 6+ hours. Good sillage.

>Them
Weird and reminds me of The Ghost in the Shell from EDLO (which I love/hate but often can’t stop smelling), starts really vegetabley and clean then dries down to a white wine and skin scent. Lasted about 3-4 hours. Okay sillage.

>Dark
Semisweet pepper and berries, then resin. Slightly fruity but kinda dry. Aromatic, nice creamy leather. 6+ hour wear, good sillage.

>Light
Bright and sharp/sweet, green and damp wood, maybe the ambergris is making it smell a bit humid. Leather from Neanderthal house seems to be a nice creamy scent. Very good sillage. 5 hour wear.

Not sure I’ll buy a full bottle, but if I had to choose probably Dark or Us. I feel like I can smell a white wine element in a lot of them, if you know how that normally smells.

Acqua di Gio is pretty nice, and always brings a smile to my face. While Profumo was a loyal flanker to the original, Profondo smells very similar to Acqua di Gio EDP. Profondo's very aromatic, green, kinda sea-salty. To me, it's not even really like the OG. It doesn't have that sparkling citrus or that really floral undertone. I tried a couple decants of it AND bought a full bottle before I realized I didn't actually love it, I was just trying to fit in with everyone else raving about it.

Also, like the other anon said, sample things if you can. Whether it's in-store or ordering decants/sample vials. Helps reduce unwanted blind-buys and regrets.

I'm not super well-versed into the history of fragrance, so my answer lies very solely on modern trends:

Dior Sauvage and Versace Eros. They're not even bad, I like them both decently. But they're both picked because of the marketing and/or packaging. Everyone "knows" of them so now I MUST GET THEM. Walk into a Sephora to test some fragrances and you'll have 3 people asking for Sauvage while you're there.

OH! And Bleu de Chanel for the very same reason. Because everyone knows about Bleu de Chanel so now I GOTTA GET BLEU DE CHANEL.

Fairly rapidly got an slew of others, LNDL, Eau Sauvage, a bunch of cheap stuff like quorum and grey flannel, and a few more expensive gems. But the other day, I went back to the Y and I found it cloying, base, and gauche. I'm realizing that I could pare down everything I've got to two favorites that stand far above the rest: Platinum Egoiste and Yatagan. And I'm also realizing that each of these fill a warm and cold weather niche, separately. Am I done? Have I reached the end of the line? Are these my signatures and should I be done with all others going forward?

At this point, I must say Lattafa Khamrah. Sauvage, Aventus and all the clones, Acqua dio Gio and flankers, it's over for them. The people who would reapply 40 sprays just to buy cigarettes now apply a clone of a unisex masstige gourmand. It might just be its ridiculous strength, but during this winter, that stuff was prevalent in this city. It also has all peak NPC stuff going for it. A clone of a faux-niche fragrance, gaudy presentation that appeals to people who enjoy the faux-luxury, easy access due to cheap price, shilled by a variety of outlets, but not Jeremy, so the buyers think they "found" something good there.

>>17966219
Yes. And with Chanel and Caron, you have even found two of the best houses for fragrances there are. The former is a family business with an in-house perfumer, that started with fragrances and sells them to this day, the latter is basically a niche brand, although its ownership changed hands a few times, they are still exclusively focused on fragrances.

Very musty. I have a bottle of Kouros Fraicheur and it's way mustier than current Kouros. Current Kouros has a relatively clean drydown as long as you spray lightly, but Fraicheur is animalic as hell in the drydown. Never tried vintage OG Kouros, I can only imagine

they're not massively similar or redundant, just vaguely the same genre
Zino is more similar to Heritage or Beau de Jour
it has way more patchouli than Lalique PH, lots of rose and rosewood in place of iris and all that jazz. it comes off as less formal than the Lalique to me, a bit more fun, also dirtier. both are worth owning, even if I prefer the more classy, soapy charm of the Lalique

I do like monster duration and projection fragrances, but sometimes I just want to wear shorter-lasting shit in order to wear as many different frags in one day as possible. Anyone like this? Any strats to get frags off quick so you can reapply something else?

Check the perfumers, they are basically all employed by IFF. I wouldn't trust that brand at all.

Bleu de Chanel is NPC: the fragrance
it's well-composed and using decent ingredients, but it tried and succeeded in being the "default designer fragrance". it does smell good, but if you want to explore, you can go a lot deeper

Bois Mysterieux opens with a big cumin smell, which means it smells like B.O. but I'm never afraid to wear it heavy in public because the worst of it dissipates quickly and stays close to the skin. what comes after is a squishy, robust sweeter smell
the cumin is so brash, but then it goes the opposite way and is one of the most blissful smells I've got.

I have tried a few of them, and the only good one I know is Ceder in Acacia (which is surprisingly good). The rest have noticeable flaws
>Oak in Oak
Vinegar-like note up top that makes it unpalatable
>Praline in Maple
has a weird rotting smell; I was expecting a smooth sweetness
>Vanilla in Armagnac
Thinly vanilla + cocao with questionable performance (2-3 hrs) although i may have just applied too little.
