I want to move to the Midwest and larp as a cowboy/western man. Yes, my life is that bad to where I have the time and energy to do so. Now, please help me

+1 on the collared shirts, cowboys don't wear t-shirts. Even better if the shirts are western yoke.
Pair with some regular waist high blue jeans and a powerful belt buckle.

>> No.17959751

>>17959564
Can't cowboy larp, it's a whole culture in and of itself.

If you want to get into it tho
>dress normal (tee, sneakers, jeans)
>go to cowboy dance halls
>sit at the bar drinking cheap beer and observe
>learn to two-step (lots of bars offer free lessons)

Then go from there, it'll come natural, or not, in which case it wasn't meant to be.

Actually shopping for cowboy shit is easy: go to Boot Barn. Boom. Done. It's not like cowboy fashion changes in major ways, I could wear one of my dad's pearl snaps from the 80's and while it'd look a little vintage it wouldn't be out of place at all.

>>17959711
>a powerful belt buckle.
If you want a buckle don't get anything bigger than a business card. Buy a neat vintage one off eBay/Etsy. Don't buy a trophy buckle. Or just wear a normal leather belt.

AS someone actually from texas and has lived in the south this is what you need.

Cowboy boots, dont gotta be new you can thirft them

13mwz wranglers, these are basically raw denim and will fade

Some white t shirts

Denim top

After that start adding accessories or colors to the look, you wont really need a cowboy hat unless you're workin outside or going somewhere special.

If you're looking for brands just let me know

I fucking love mark maggiori's paintings. They are beautiful and done very well. I have generally been buying his prints for his last 3 drops. Not going to lie, they are pretty good investments because you can resell them to people for 2-3 times what you paid for them. I dont want to sell because i like to collect art, but its a good idea. Eventually I'd like to get a real painting from him, but i dont have 30-50k sitting around to spend on one. He is also just a cool artist in general and a perfect american immigrant. He actually wants to be culturally american and he loves the freedom of what america stands for.

>white t-shirt
>button down long sleeves (you can roll sleeves or not depending on the weather

Those are good starting points. Hope this helps. I like to dress western/outdoor gear because it is fashionable, durable, and great for outside work because i work in the winters in a steel plant and summers out on my buddy's ranch in MN.

Just buy a ten gallon and thrift some boots, but every one will be able to tell your all hat, no cattle. Assuming your not just a neet and are active, I'd suggest you take the time to learn the reasoning behind each article of clothing and you'll be able to take liberties and make cowboy fashion your own. Cowboy/Western fashion is primarily meant to be functional.
>Body
Look like you've actually worked with your hands. Don't even bother continuing if you look like you've only ever worked retail, fast food or white collar jobs.
>Working outside all day in the beating sun?
Long brimmed hat, long sleeves, neckerchief to keep collar clean. Wear light colors and breathable materials - cotton, linen, wool, and silk.
>Pants?
Denim, it's durable and still looks good when dirty. If you know you might be wading/swimming in water, they'd wear lighter materials. If your actually riding on a horse for long periods of time, you'll probably spring for pants with extra padding along the inner thighs and seat. Wear suspenders or a durable full grain belt to keep your pants up.
>Footwear?
Everyone already knows cowboy boots are shaped the way they are to fit into stirrups easily. If you're not attending some formal event or riding on horse, stick to any other durable work boot like red wings.
>Accessories?
Buckles, bolos, jewelry, and etc. Only wear flashy pieces if you're dressing up for an event. Otherwise, you'll look retarded.

Ariat is my favorite for entry-level boots though, my first western boots (as an adult anyway) were a pair of their Heritage Ropers that I bought about 4 years ago and I wore them every day for a couple of years and then demoted them to being work/bad weather boots, they're beat to hell now but still functional and comfy.

The Swiss-German TV series "Der Bestatter" has a detective character who wears a toned down, European-ized cowboy larp all the time, could be a decent source of inspo. (Also a great show that's available subtitled and worth watching.) He wears brown leather lace-up boots instead of cowboy boots, and button-up shirts instead of pearl snaps, and everything is cut more European-style, but it's still recognizably Western.

Technically, they’re different. Ranch hands used to be the same as cowboys. Nowadays, ranch hands are sometimes cowboys but not always. Ranch hands tend ranches like a farmer tends a farm. Cowboys move cattle from one area to another. Ranch hands are usually under the employ of the ranch and live on the ranch, while cowboys are more like independent contractors. Sometimes ranch hands are also cowboys. Cowboys are typically not also ranch hands.
