Guide to posters

Major avatarfags
=============

>Poortadello/OmegaDrunk
Multi-reply specialist. Canadian. Gay. Only posts about his own watches. Very repetitive posts. Has several obscure Omegas only he cares about. Notorious for samefagging. Obsessed with BitterAnon.

>Whoretadello
Balding Greek living in Germany. Has a tendency of buying too large watches for his small wrist. Cleans cars for a living. Has a Tudor, Homos, and some Seikos. Life currently falling apart. Responds by getting more material things and falling in love with strippers. Excellent at ban evading.

>Citizen drunk/Finncel
25% Finnish, 50% Swedish, rest is a mystery. Lives in Finland. Works as a shelver in a grocery store. Alcoholic. Only owns one watch, but posts a lot, mostly about alcohol or coins. Possibly immortal. Tragic case of gyno.

>Mortadello
Very positive and friendly, but doesn't post anything of any consequence. Lawyer. Obese. Posts improving photos of amazing watches. Lies about his age. Does not take criticism well.

Semi-regular posters
================

>HamiltonDrunk
Posts a single picture per thread before getting drunk and passing out. Owns a Hamilton. Works in television and film.

>Nobully anon
Trans. Has rich parents who have bought them several VCs.

>Cockwatch
Has one F-91W, has posted it on his cock. Mostly posts the Casio with Soviet knick-knacks. Russian living in Latvia with mommy.

>ALS anon
Has an 1815 Up/Down. Stays under the radar, but occasionally pops his head up to flex and complain

>Weekdater anon
Owns a Seiko Weekdater, goes on dates weekly

>Hungarian anon
Is a watchmaker, complains about his customers

>Central Florida Anon
Looking for a wristlet to love

>> No.17957260

>As for the Seiko. Well it's a Seiko from Japan. Very reliable, withing 30 seconds +/- any time of the day. Reset for 1 min only once so far, but if you value high accuracy over everything else, buy a quarts. Power reserve is great, left it all weekend long in the box and was still ready for service on Monday. I must really say the luminous marks are fantastic. Very bright, and last all night. I've been awaken by my dog at 4AM and the marks are shining brightly back at me easy to read the time even without my glasses. The sweep hand is very hard to see because the luminous material is so small, but I don't need to see the sweep hand at night.

If gold is "legit" it will have visible assay markings on it.

Sometimes, there's several marks (for the assay office/year/quality), but certain companies (like Tiffany's) can just print their name and the quality: Tiffany's Au750.

Anything without assay markings is a scam.

Sure, that's a nice modern Breguet, just be extra careful with watches from ex-Soviet states.
If I were into that look and size and money wouldn't be much of an issue I'd probably go for a pre-Swatch Breguet from the 1950s-1960s though. The best examples with the Peseux 260 used to sell at around $10k at auctions but idk about current prices. Cheaper (sub-5K back then) examples with the Peseux 320 also exist. The 260s were chronometers marked on the movement with the viper head of the observatory of Besancon while the 320s bear the poinçon de Besançon. Extracts from the archives should be available from Breguet, and the Besancon Observatory should be able to provide the chronometer certificate.
L. Leroy also sold watches with the exact same movements and cases but their own dials and numbering.

I've bought three base model Rolexes (one for my young son, one for my wife, one for myself) and I don't plan to buy another anytime soon. me and my AD are simply respectable everyday people who got to know and appreciate each other on a personal level. it's not a parasitic relationship built on mutual benefits.

Why are magnetic resistant watches a thing? Are there that many particle accelerator technicians around that making these is a good marketing decision? Wouldn't a basic plastic Casio cut it in that kind of an environment in a purely technical standpoint?

Don't fool yourself. If you're getting diamond hard for [ INSERT ANY PRESTIGIOUS BRAND THAT ISN'T ROLEX ] it's only to impress watchnerds.

Watch brands are basically little private mens clubs, and buying a watch is like paying a fee to become a member.
Some clubs are almost impossible to get into (FP Journe, Philippe Dufour, etc), while others are trying to trick you into thinking they're super exclusive even though you can buy a second hand ticket for cheap (Vacheron, Breguet...).

There are two reasons why watchnerds hate Rolex
>they make great watches at a fair price (talking from an horological point of view here)
>everyone wants to be part of the Rolex club : normies AND watchnerds

Don't be that one bitter watchnerd hating on Rolex for all the wrong reasons. Everybody knows Rolex is the only watch brand that actually matters.

A quartz watch is using a tiny coil to move the hands, so I would imagine it would be pretty susceptible to electromagnetism. Also, the hands can get magnetized easily if they are made of steel

Cherchez la femme anon, Patek went to shit when he bedded and wedded the marketing intern and made her head of the design department.

>Sandrine Stern, as head of Patek Philippe’s creation department and wife of Thierry Stern, president of the brand’s board of directors, is the First Lady of a watch manufacture which creates timepieces that make connoisseurs’ eyes light up and consistently set new records at auctions year after year. She is managing both the brand’s product portfeuil and the Stern dinasty.

>To finance her studies she looked for a part-time job and luckily, the first job she was offered was at Patek Philippe. She could not hesitate in accepting, her father was so proud. It was only a short-term job but, instead of staying three months as originally planned, she has been there for over 18 years! Her first position was for the commercial team. But in 1998 she joined the watch creation team and she is now head of that department.

>While her husband is often away on business trips, she stays at home in Geneva with her children, her family and her work. After all, she directs a department with colleagues who continually tweak the latest sketches and ideas. “As my husband always says, I am his favourite complicated piece.”

Undoubtedly yes, Rolex has a higher market share in Japan than GS, but GS's market share is much higher in Japan than any other country. The point is, GS is absolutely not "intended for gaijin." They care way more about domestic sales than international, they just have a while to go to beat Rolex's long established reputation as a luxury brand. Non-japanese generally shit all over GS, Japanese like it, but the majority of people buy luxury brands to impress other people, and they know rolex is more impressive on an international level.

Generally, it's rolex fags that shit on gs. Just read the comment section on any Watchfinder video. Every comment shitting on seiko is simultaneously praising rolex. They're great watches, especially for the money, I'd just rather have an Omega because GS's case shapes just don't do it for me.

Nobody’s hating on GS, its market segment sits between Tudor and Omega. It’s the GSfags that keep spouting nonsense like how the finish is higher quality than Rolex that’s getting shit on. Also telling people to not by new isn’t hating on the brand.

Wanted to add, for me it's all about the name. I've had multiple Seikos in my life, and have had mediocre to poor experiences with them. My only exposure was to their cheap shit Seiko 5 mechanical movements and solar quartz (which was the most unreliable piece of shit movement, it's no Eco-Drive). Nothing about Seiko is "grand", and nothing about the name Grand Seiko inspires me to want to spend thousands on their product. I'm sure the watches are fine, but spending that much on anything Seiko will always seem absurd to me.

Oh left out the key bit, I'm sure most people's experience with Seiko is the same as mine, bottom of the barrel shit, so wearing one proudly seems like a joke to me.
