>This pair is my second shoe build and it truly was a labor of love. There must be miles of hand stitching between the visible stitches and the many more unseen beneath the surface. I wanted a shoe that was built like a tank—one tougher than the toughest work boots available. Only because I know my audience (and that includes anyone reading this), I’ve decided to list some of the components below.

>7-8 ounce full grain cow hide leather
>Most parts of the shoe have at least two layers of this along with a 4 ounce Kip leather lining.

>12 ounce toe puff and heel counter

>Hand welted with cork bed, steel shank and metatarsal pads built in.

>Insole was custom built years ago from many layers of leather to match the arch of my foot exactly. I wore them in my tennis shoes everyday for about two years. When it came time for this build, I simply used these as my insole and sewed them to the upper and 360 degree welt.

>There is a double midsole and Dr Soles Super Grip split soles.

>Brass toe kick made from a brass house number. I tried to buy ones already produced but couldn’t find exactly what I wanted so I made them.

>The 360 welt is stitched down to the double leather midsole. The outer sole stitch goes all the way through to the outsole, so I have options when it comes time to resole.

>The heel is made from stacks of 12 ounce leather and a bronze heel plate was made to fit between the leather and rubber outsole.

>The double stitched welt was done with a combination of three 1 mm threads of different colors (gold, silver, copper) twisted together (3 mm total) and I’m hoping those will become more visible with time as the wax melts away.

>The heel and outsole were clamped very tightly and nailed down with similar colored nails (brass, nickel and gold).

>All adhesions were done with Barges contact cement and tons of stitching.

>The eyelets are drum parts made from non-corrosive copper/brass

yea i have some, they are well built but i don't see the value anyway. For reference i bought the most expensive non-shell sneaker, no clue how the cheaper ones perform.
Never had them rebuilt either, but i think they offer their own rebuild service, so it should easy.
They are comfy though, you don't quite get the cushioning you'd get from foam sneakers, that fall apart in 6 months, they weigh a bit more too, but its close enough. You do get all the advantages of leather like the superior breathability, smell and durability for example.

I've got a pair of captains in tobacco. Aside from some creases because I didn't get the sizing exactly right, I've been pretty happy with them. I couldn't be arsed to send them back (probably could have gone a half size down but honestly they aren't that big even then) but they are still pretty comfortable and I like my boots with a bit of room at the end of the toe anyways.

They aren't as well made as either of my other pairs of boots (Danner and Whites) but I honestly think they are better than a lot of people give them credit. Just way over advertised and shilled on social media.

That's what I thought too, that boxcalf doesn't have the same depth of color and doesn't take too shoe polish etc as well but it creases better and generally stays looking the same for longer. It also doesn't stain as easily as veg tan leathers.

TLB offers very few shoes in brown boxcalf, they really push the veg tan leather a lot more on stock models.
It just says annonay boxcalf.

A lot of dress shoes are much closer to a Brannock measurement sizing. Sneakers tend to run small.

As an example, I'm a 12 Brannock, tend to wear either 11.5 or 12 boots, and usually need either 12.5 or 13 sneakers (all US measurements). The two pairs of dress shoes I own are both dead on for Brannock sizing at 12.

This is quite common in non-gusseted boots, the taller the boot, the bigger the offset. I beleive it's done on purpose for comfort, but too much of an offset gets uncomfortable.

I think there aren't too many competitors for the kind of things Thursday tends to do well (on the line between dressy and worky but more towards the fashionable dressy end). This will be a bit of a novel, sorry about that. The tldr is that I actually don't think they are bad for the money like everyone says here, but they definitely have some flaws and potential hangups.

I do believe the captain to be a reasonably priced boot for what it is, and if you don't have any obvious QC defects I don't think they are a bad buy for the money. I can't speak to the frequency of QC issues because this is the only pair of anything I've bought from them and mine was fine.

I can't say much about the other boots they have aside from the Diplomat. If you are looking at getting a moc-toe, you're probably a lot better off spending a bit more money and getting something more well constructed like a White's Perry or Red Wing. Even in the same price range, I might go for a pair of Danner bull runs or Thorogoods over a Thursday diplomat if you're okay with a more "worky" oriented boot because the insoles will hold up longer and you can replace them without having to recraft the boot if needed.
