Even just within Rolex, one can get a white gold Daytona for that which I would prefer, but I don't really care much for Rolex anyway.
For 30 to 40k you can get a Nautilus, Royal Oak, Overseas, a Lange 1815, these are just specific lines. Frankly most watches from brands like those are more appealing to me than a yellow gold daydate.

Again, what is wrong with looking like a vintage hipster? I don't get it. Honestly I can't imagine thinking twice about someone wearing a small understated watch. But a gaudy oversized watch is going to have people judging, even if you can "pull it off." I know from experience, my wrist is large enough that basically nothing is going to hang over the sides of my wrist but when I wear a bulky oversized watch I still know it. I can wear 45mm watches, but it's never going to be as comfortable or look as good as a 36mm watch. Not only does it look fine but it literally doesn't even make sense to wear a watch that's 40mm or larger if it's just a 3 hand watch with no rotating bezel or some other justification for being that large.

Wrong. i generally prefer a slimmer profile watch (really not a fan of subs, sea dwellers, gmt masters, yachtmasters, etc)

that said i do make an exception for daytonas and particularly skydwellers (although skydwellers are still less bulky than daytonas and especially rolex's other sport watches imo)

this one i consider to be a grail piece for me (steelcase with blue dial is obviously amazing as well though)

how does ap get away with so many of their watches looking like this? the royal oak is their biggest design by far and every other one branches off of it, but the base design looks so much like a rich guy didn't want to be caught dead wearing a g-shock so he went out and started a watch company to make "fancy" g-shocks instead

an ap is like something a middle school boy would pick; it's reminiscent of a linkin park music video with a dingy post-apocalyptic city in the background, steam vents hissing away and giant dystopian gears turning away

meanwhile the code 11.59 doesn't even bear mention, it looks like the spawn of a garmin, an invicta, and a patek all pushed together and splattered with either gaudy, uninspired skeleton revealed or some disgusting combination of gold lettering and gradient colored dial.

do I even need to mention anything about the marvel crossover or the travis scott collab?

this whole brand just screams lack of pride and lack of confidence; in themselves, in their designs, in who they are as a company and as people. say what you will about rolex being haughty in the way they deal with customers, at least they have standards they'll adhere to that don't include being one step away from invicta. (puzzle piece is the closest but that doesn't hold a candle to some of the designs ap's come out with)

>how does ap get away with so many of their watches looking like this?

I don't think it's a matter of "getting away with it" so much as they're handcuffed to the design. They need to stay in business. The APRO is the only thing that sold, which is why they discontinued their other lines. The Code 11.59 was an attempt to create a new design family but that was a wet fart. (If we're being very generous, it's been getting a little better with complications like the starwheel.)

AP is independent. They can't count on Richemont subsidizing classic dress watches like they do for VC and ALS.

Good morning.
I really want to wear my new watch today during the meeting at an izakaya, but they at wako warned me a couple of times that, if they check the watch and see signs of wear, it will be a problem because I am not supposed to wear it during my stay. 40mm is the objectively correct diameter for a watch with a rotating bezel.

36mm is the objectively correct size for a 3 hand watch with day and/or date.

If we're talking about watches with chronograph or a lot of complications like perpetual calendar and moonphase and shit I'll let it slide if it has to be 40mm or more to fit all that shit. That's the only exception. But generally a watch should be exactly the size it needs to be to do it's job.
